Mini-Rant
Ok, something needs clarifying here. Easiest way to start it is this "Rap is not music"
Ok, now, before I have to individualy hunt down and ruthlessly slaughter the moronic pricks who religiously defend rap, let me explain. Rap is as much music, as a stone statue is a fresco. While a statue and fresco are of the visual arts, the are created differently. and have a different focus. Music is actualy a very specific audio art, with many parameters and limitations. Rap does not fit into these, it is, however, much more akin to poetry. Hip hop is music, rap is poetry with an audio 'backdrop' to it.
It isn't that I don't like rap, i love rap, well, good rap, there is plenty of shitty rap out there, just like there is shitty techno, rock, jazz, blues, and classical. Shitty poetry, shitty paintings, etc...
Ok, many of you mindless zombies want a statemnt from a relieable sourse. Sadly, there really isn't one I can give you, however *points at his name* I live with that...Dr. John M. Feierabend, Director of music education at the Hartt school, University of Hartford. He specializes in early childhood music education, but to do that, he has spend several decades studying music. What music has what effect on the human brain, and how an embryo devolops to hear which tones first. There is a whole series of lectures comming out on DVD soon, basically everything is in the five lectures.

Anyway,I'm not attacking rap, remmebr, I like rap, just clarifying that you catagorize it in as the wrong form of art
