Clothing and form: Really tall and really skinny, Nerissa can be either scary or really pretty. Generally standard trousers, linen shirts, and leather boots or a light skirt and corset when on ship. Keeps a large silver hoop in one ear. Dresses like a wealthy lady when in ports.
What you own: 1 cutlass, 2 pistols, 2 oriental fighting fans, a grey tabby cat, Murphy Plantation just north of Kingston that is run by her uncle, a violin, and a small Chinese junk ship named the Xun Bo (long story).
Weapon: Will fight with a blade when needed, but prefers to carry her pistols because they are easier to hide. She also has two metal Chinese fighting fans. These she uses when she can't use the pistols, they don't look dangerous when folded and not many in the Caribbean expect them.
Personality: Is fiery, stubborn, and strong-willed. Is a bit tomboyish as she greatly dislikes women's work. She can be flirty when trying to get what she wants. Although she has a sharp tongue and a hot temper, she tries to avoid physical fights as she has more wits and cunning than strength. She has a love for animals and music and a thirst for adventure.
History: Was born to a wealthy, noble family from port in Ireland. Her father owned a sugarcane plantation in the West Indies. She always enjoyed going to the local pub listening to the tales her father's sailors would tell about their trips. These stories gave her a love and respect for the sea, not to mention a taste for adventure.
Her mother raised her to be a "proper" lady, but she was always bored by women's work. She hated cooking and cleaning and never had the patience to sew. The only thing she enjoyed were her music lessons, which taught her to sing and play the piano and the violin which she greatly loved.
At 20, she ran away from home when her father arranged for her to marry a man who she barely knew and was much older than her. He also was a man in the sugar cane plantation. A job Nerissa had witnessed on trips to their Jamaica plantation with her father and loathed the conditions she saw. With only her violin, she stowed away onto one of the ships bound for the West Indies where she made a living playing in pubs.
Once while playing in one of these pubs, she came across a stray kitten. She took in the grey tabby and named him "Mr. Mew". The cat goes everywhere with her, even on ships when she travels between islands, finding his use catching rats that eat the food stored on the ship. Lately her thirst for adventure has her listening in to talk in these pubs, looking for a crew she may join.
Greatest Strengths: Has an excellent shot when using pistols, intelligent with a decent education, adept at persuasion, very quick
Weakness: Not as physically strong as others, short tempered, impatient, years of wearing a corset have messed with her lungs, self confidence is shaky
