Day and night,

I can’t think

I can’t close my eyes

Bed

And the thing I dream about

When I sleep

And the first thought to cross my mind

When I wake up.

I can’t remember you

In my dreams

But I know you were there.

Because I wake up

With an ache in my heart

And my eyes all puffy

And wet spots on my pillow.

I can’t ride the bus

Without pondering you and your quirks.

When I’m left alone

With my thoughts

You’re all I think about.

You even overcome the sound of my music

Blaring,

To drown out everything else.

And I can’t sit in class

And take notes

Because you’re all that’s on my mind.

So I sit there and nod and

Pretend

Like I know what the teacher is talking about.

But I’m miles away

In dreamland

Wondering if you’ll talk to me today.

Your name is on the tip of my tongue

And when it’s quiet,

When I’m alone,

I whisper it

To see how it tastes in my mouth,

To hear how well it sounds as it spills from my lips.

It tastes bitter,

Disgusting,

But I love to say it.

I’m a masochist, baby,

And I’ll suffer through that acrid taste

Just to say it again.
