I honestly don't believe that Gaia is using their profits on the site. I see very little development or effort being put in. It really shows that they don't care anymore. Questing is now pointless since inflation has killed the Marketplace, and it's only going to get worse here on out. The site is just no longer fun. So, adios amigos!
