I go to a Catholic school as well, actually. But it's arse-poor, so there we are. And the Elvish they speak in the movies is actually Sindarin- Grey Elven. Latin was the High Tongue, very formal and a bit outmoded. A bit like the Latin of Elvish, actually. About that- if you are interested in learning more, Ardalambion.com has a fabulous Quenya tutorial. That's what I was using, 'scept that I find it's quite difficult to do much more than learn a vocabulary and some verb forms when one is trying to teach oneself a language... by oneself. Oh well.

Lucky... my school doesn't offer Latin as a course. But that's what you get for going to a private school with no money, aye? I want to study it when I go to university as well. I'm simply running on seven years of (mediocre) Spanish as it is, but I've a good head for languages, so that's been quite helpful. My primary linguistic endeavour is to learn Quenya- that is to say, Tolkien's High Elven. Unfortunately, it shares almost no roots with Latin at all, as it is based mainly off Finnish, as well as the Celtic languages, to some extent.

Oh, huzzah!!

And to answer the question you posed before- no, I don't speak Latin, unfortunately. However, I'm something of an aspiring linguist, and having a thorough grounding in Spanish, I can understand some Latin, if I work at it. Romantic Languages and all that, you know. And I just love how Latin sounds... it's a gorgeous language.
