Born the son of a prostitute, I was often beaten. On the streets, two bullies made fun of me. Blinded the first with lit cigarette. Began chewing on second's cheek. Excelled in religious education and PE in high school.
When informed of mothers gruesome murder, replied with one word: "Good." Found work as unskilled garment worker. Lady ordered dress with black and white fabric, flowing, but never mixing, no gray. Formed patterns, such as on Rorschach blot tests. Responded to heat and pressure. Woman who ordered didn't want it. Said it was ugly.
Kitty Genovese murdered. The woman who ordered the dress. Some watched it happen. Something had to be done. Cut the dress with heated scissors, made a face I could stand to look at in the mirror.
1975, searching for kidnapped child, promised parents I would return her safely. Child murdered, fed to two German Shepherd attack dogs. Found a cleaver. Walked outside to the dogs. Shock of impact ran down arm, jet of warmth spattered on chest. Killer returned, chained him to a pipe. Dropped a saw by the man, pouring kerosene all over house. Told him not to try to cut through handcuffs, would never make it in time. Ignited kerosene and left. Watched the house from a distance, imagined breasts blackening, bellies smoldering, watched for an hour. Whatever was left of Walter Kovacs died that night.
Keene act passed, 1977. Refused to retire, became more violent. Murdered rapist Harvey Charles Furniss, left corpse in front of police station.
Comedian murdered, 1985. Thrown out window. He knew most of all of us. I believed there was a "costume killer", taking out masked heroes. Was framed later, taken to prison, subjected to death threats. Burned a man with hot fat, who died later. Before being dragged away by guards, I gave prisoners some advice: I'm not trapped in here with you, you're trapped in here with me! I was later examined by clinical psychologist. Big Figure and his thugs tried to kill me, didn't work. They're attempted murder allowed me to escape from prison, transported out of prison by Nite Owl and Silk Spectre. Recovered my face and clothes from apartment.
Nite Owl and I broke into Ozymandias's building, found out that he was the one who exiled Dr. Manhattan, and hired the Comedians killer. We traveled to his antarctic base. When we arrived he explained his plot to us. Killed half of New York. Manhattan arrived later, with Silk Spectre. Ozymandias tried to kill Manhattan, didn't work. No one wanted to reveal Ozymandias's plot, in fear of putting the world on the brink of nuclear catastrophe. I didn't comply, therefore Manhattan tries to tell me otherwise. I remain defiant, raging in tears, removing my face, telling Manhattan that he must kill me if he wants to protect Ozymandias's utopia, he reluctantly completes my request. Before death, I mailed my journal to a newspaper company, the New Frontiersman.
