"Yes... I'm a sly fox." (( Shh, all the dog items look ugly. D: So I went for the fox ones instead. >.>;; ))
On the surface, Roy appears to be nothing more than a man of the military who pursues promotions and praise and is considered a ladies' man however, Roy is a complicated man. Mustang's true goal is to become Fuhrer in order to gain the power to reform the government in order to absolve his sins in the Ishbal War. Ten minutes with him will tell you nothing about how he really is, and most likely will leave you more confused than you were already. The truth is, Roy chooses who he wants to be known by. He plays an act for bystanders, which is basically his way of keeping people from getting close to him, while at the same time concealing the true motives behind his actions. But the ones that get to see past his masks (even if only a little), those are the ones that find himself entranced by Roy and, somehow, can't leave his side after that.
One of the characteristics that shine through Roy it's his determination. He's not one that gives up at anything, and follows his convictions till the end. He's got a keen sense of leadership, something provided by the great respect he can command, from both his allies and enemies. And besides being smart (one just needs to take a look at the success rate in his job and his undercover business), his intelligence is also obviously far above the average. Not only he can bring undying loyalty out of people, but he in return is also loyal to them, and to the duties he's given to himself.
His goals are admirable enough that he earns the fierce loyalty of his good friends Lt Col. Maes Hughes, Major Alex Louis Armstrong, and his own subordinates, among whom are Riza Hawkeye, Jean Havoc, Heymans Breda, Vato Falman, and Kain Fuery. While Mustang has a close and amicable relationship with all of his subordinates, he appears to share a deeper bond of affection with his second-in-command Riza Hawkeye, who has devoted her life to supporting him.
As everyone knows (and take care to remember) Roy is also known as the Flame Alchemist, code name given to him by Fuhrer King Bradley himself when he received his Certified National Alchemist license. The person responsible for Roy's alchemy learning was none other than Hawkeye's father. Most facts are still unknown, but he was the man that taught all the basics to Roy and considered to rely the secret of his alchemy to him. Roy's teacher, in fact, passed away before he could actually rely his most powerful alchemy to him. However, he somehow left all his knowledge within his daughter, Riza Hawkeye, and left it up to her to trust Roy with it or not. She eventually decided to confide him with her father's research, as Roy's dream for the future inspired her with newly found hope.
A powerful alchemist in his own right, Mustang wears gloves with transmutation circles on them that are made of a material called "pyrotex/ignition cloth" that spark when he snaps his fingers. His gloves, then, have a double purpose. One is they have the alchemy array he designed sewn on them. That way, there's no need for Roy to draw it whenever he needs to use it, and as the transmutation is always the same, the alchemy array needed is always the same one too. The other purpose being to produce the fire. Roy just needs to flick against the cloth hard enough and it'll produce a spark.
