Zoophilia, from the Greek ζῷον (zṓion, "animal") and φιλία (philia, "friendship" or "love"), also known as bestiality, is the practice of sexual relations between humans and animals, or a preference or fixation on such practice. A person who practices zoophilia is known as a zoophile.[1]
Although sexual relations with animals are not outlawed in some countries (see the section on legal aspects below), it is not explicitly condoned anywhere. In most countries, such acts are illegal under animal abuse laws or laws dealing with crimes against nature.

[edit] Terminology
Look up zoophilia, zoosexuality, bestiality in Wiktionary, the free dictionary. The term "zoophilia" was introduced into the field of research on sexuality in Psychopathia Sexualis (1886) by Krafft-Ebing, who described a number of cases of "violation of animals (bestiality)"[2], as well as "zoophilia erotica"[3], which he defined as a sexual attraction to animal skin or fur. He used the term zooerasty for the paraphilia of exclusive sexual attraction to animals,[4] but that has fallen out of use.
Zoophilia can refer to sexual activity with animals (bestiality), the desire to do so, or to the paraphilia of the same name which requires a definite preference for animals over humans as sexual partners.
Some zoophiles and researchers draw a distinction between zoophilia and bestiality, using the former to describe the desire to form sexual relationships with animals, and the latter to describe the sex acts alone. Masters (1962) uses the term "bestialist" specifically in his discussion of zoosadism, which refers to deriving sexual pleasure from cruelty to animals. Stephanie LaFarge, an assistant professor of psychiatry at the New Jersey Medical School, and Director of Counseling at the ASPCA, writes that two groups can be distinguished: bestialists, who rape or abuse animals, and zoophiles, who form an emotional and sexual attachment to animals.[5] Williams and Weinberg studied self-defined zoophiles via the internet and found they saw the term as involving concern for the animal's welfare and pleasure, and an emphasis on believing they obtained consent, as opposed to the zoophile's concept of bestialists, who zoophiles defined as a group who focussed only on their own gratification. Williams and Weinberg also quoted a British newspaper as saying that zoophilia is the term used by apologists of bestiality.[6]

Storm Watch Information
Hurricane Kyle is moving quickly towards Yarmouth, Nova Scotia this afternoon. Rain has already begun and winds will steadily increase later this afternoon, with damaging winds expected this evening across Nova Scotia's south shore.
Kyle has moved over the chilly waters north of the Gulf Stream (blue shading in the picture below) to the east of Cape Cod. This storm is not winning any beauty contests for its appearance on satellite imagery and is already starting to loose its tropical features (rain is now primarily north and west of the centre, and the strongest winds are to the east).
However, this storm still contains strong winds that will likely cause damage, especially in Nova Scotia from Shelburne to Halifax. As the storm moved by a buoy on Georges Bank, wind gusts were measured at 130 km/h just after noon today. The strongest winds from Kyle will hit tonight over Nova Scotia. Some deciduous trees are likely to come down and cause power outages with winds gusting 100-120 km/h.
Western New Brunswick (near Woodstock) has already seen 50-70 mm of rain from a frontal system well ahead of Kyle. Additional rainfall tonight may cause flooding in areas near the Maine border.
However, it appears that rain will not last long enough over most of the Maritimes to cause significant problems. Bottom line - this is still a dangerous storm with the biggest impact likely to come from damaging winds tonight in Nova Scotia. Over the coming hours, I'll be updating this story as the winds begin to pick up over Nova Scotia.
