baby steps, right? everybody starts with a ruler, you can't make a square without some basics.
you have to know what it looks like, right?
the ruler will definitely help. continue with the ruler, but then gradually ween off of it.
like dog would when changing wet food to dry food.

at first I had the same problem, I tried so hard to draw the square
but they just ended up looking like rhombuses. or worse, parallelograms.
but I worked so hard for so long, that soon they began to take a diamond shape.
and once you work to the diamond stage, well, you're practically a pro-square-drawer.
my advice to you is to just keep working hard.
