theres a bunch of ways you can make gold (thats money around here)
you can post in the forums
post a journal
vote on art in the arenas
win races in rally
sell things you dont need/want
play the daily chance
shake trees/bushes/snowmen/rocks in towns
or even comment people (thats right im getting gold for talking to you now)
word from the wise
go to the Market tab and go to the drop-down Trade
once there buy a trading pass
its 500 gold but well worth it
