Life is good if you're privileged. Even then, it might not be so good, because you're constantly watched by the Supreme Leader. Screw up once, and three generations of your family will go to a prison camp. I seriously doubt the Supreme Leader will ever grant someone a second chance. Unless he was particularly attached to them, I guess.
As long as you're a high-ranking official or do something that pleases the government (like music/art/etc.), then you'll be treated better than the common people.
