About
Sesshoumaru is a dog-demon living in the Sengoku Jidai (feudal Japan, sometime in the 1600's). Unlike his half-brother Inu-Yasha, Sesshoumaru is a full demon. He and Inu-Yasha have the same demon father, but different mothers; though his mother has not been mentioned, presumably she, too, was a demon, unlike Inu-Yasha's mother, who was human. Upon the death of his father, Sesshoumaru inherited his domain, and is often referred to as the Lord of the Western Lands.
Sesshoumaru's age is unknown, but it can be inferred that he's been around a long time. He has the ability to transform between his human and dog-demon forms, and his weapons include the Dokkasou (poison flower claw), the Tenseiga (a healing sword), and the Toukijin (another sword). However, much of Sesshoumaru's time is spent trying to obtain the Tetsusaiga, a powerful sword forged from the fang of his father. Unfortunately for him, the Tetsusaiga is in Inu-Yasha's possession, and this pits the two brothers against each other.
Although Sesshoumaru is typically viewed as the cold-hearted villain, he is much more than that. Not much is revealed about his past, but it is obvious that he has one. He is very powerful, arrogant, stoic, and commonly mistaken for a girl. He travels with a frog-demon named Jaken, who is his retainer, and eventually with a young orphaned girl named Rin, whose life he saves (implying that somewhere underneath that cool exterior, he does indeed have a heart).
