It took me a while to figure out how to get to the game, too. Basically what you do is get to the 'Gaia Aquarium' section (in Gaia Community Discussion) and go to one of the threads with 'booty grab' somewhere in the title. Try to get to one that has a lot of good tanks in it (the people are usually invited). After that, all you have to do is go through the thread until you see a tank that says 'Booty Grab' on it (it should also have 'play' at the bottom). Click on it, and another window will pop up. Click on the glowing fish, and it shows you the different modifier thingies. Then all you have to do is catch the gold in the shell on your head. If you want more info, there's a link to a whole bunch of this stuff on the News and Events page. Hope this helps.
I just realized I've been using the word 'ridiculous' alot. Oops. However, it is a very accurate word for the state of things. I joined in '06, but haven't had the chance to get on a whole lot, so I don't have very much gold, or very good items. It's really quite depressing sometimes. However, the 'Booty Grab' game makes it much easier for people to earn gold, which is good. But, of course, fish are very expensive.
It's like the only good ways to get decent items is through paying actual money (or begging). I personally don't see any reason for using my money to buy pixels on a screen, but that's just me... I really like the Gaia community, but I don't like it when people who don't pay are at a huge disadvantage. I don't really mind the Monthly Collectibles, because that was Gaia's way of getting a bit of money while restricting the number of items that got out, but the Cash Shop is ridiculous.
That's ridiculous! But they're also going the other way--making Gaia Cash. Since that came out, there are a ton of people who don't even work for their gold...
I try to keep my prices low, too. I find that it makes it easier on everyone--and you are MUCH more likely to sell than the people who charge ridiculous amounts. But lately I've found that the marketplace prices are way under what you could get by just selling the items back to the store. It (usually) pays better to just sell items that the stores don't stock. Sorry for the long comment.
