Yeah, that's why I wouldn't want to major in English either. There are just a lot of things that I'd rather not worry about in an essay. I know they make it flow better but sometimes the things that teachers mark you down on are really frivolous. My mom's paying for my fees but hopefully FAFSA will kick in again this year especially since the fees increased $300 this semester for all CSU's and #2,000 for UCs. Some people couldn't go back because they couldn't afford it.

I would say just pick something that you love. No matter how hard it is, or how much money you'll never make it, it's worth it. I put in two or three times the amount of work than most of the people I see in college. You gotta do what you gotta do to get to where you wanna go. You'll figure it out in time. Try and take more Art and English classes to see if that's where you want to go. I'm thinking Art History might be a little different than the art major itself?

You're definitely in the picking process right now and it's great that you're keeping your mind open. Keep it open for as long as you need and don't let anyone tell you that you're taking too long to decide or any of that. It took me almost four years with a broad range of classes to figure out what I really wanted to do. In that process, you learn that there are a lot of people that graduate and have no idea what they want to do with it or that they don't like what they do and they're going back so many years later. Best bet, stay in school for the extra year or two.

When I was majoring in computer science they really liked having the English majors in their, especially for web design and such (probably because I was taking mostly web design courses haha). They love English majors because they know how to write. Everything is about publicity and being professional. If you can code the heck out of a website but then you don't know how to spell "Information," It's not going to do the website much of any good. smile Bigger websites I'm sure have people specifically for that (ex: lawyer writing TOS, Privacy Policy, etc).

Hey, you could always triple major in computer science, English, and Art. Then you could create your own masterpieces and put them on the web so you don't have to pay a middle man. Having a specific edge on art would help your own design for the websites and such. Though, I could only imagine that would take years and years because none of those majors double count. English is all English really. Comp Sci is all math, physics, and coding. Art is a lot of art, art history, etc. But, my gosh, you would have quite a background. smile .

Make sure you buy that catalog (big book of majors, classes, requirements, etc) and look into all the classes that you have to take. You could always try and get a minor in Computer Science or any of the rest of them. If not, you could take the classes and just have a background in it. You need so many elective courses for a bachelors, so. smile At least that's what it's like for ours.

Becoming a chef would be neat! If I remember correctly that requires a lot of chemistry, so you might want to take a look at that. You can always get your bachelors and transfer. Aren't the schools, grad schools? I'm probably wrong.

Yeah, I would have been a genius in math. There are two things I remember really well. Algebra II and Pre-calc because those were my only two good teachers for math. It's unfortunate. Now, I won't take calc or physics yet until I know I have a good professor teaching it.

Knowing how to use sentences can always write your way into a book. smile

Ah! So, you like the other side of the brain. I'm not using or practicing that side so much. Chemistry is really great, I love learning about the physical world, but the chemistry department/college is one of the hardest colleges in universities if you ask me. I would imagine it has to be close to second or third, beaten by physics and math. I believe our Physics college graduated one or two students last semester. So, I guess that speaks for itself. The concepts are hard, the labs are long, and the instructors are really cut throat. Chemistry is the weeder in a bunch of majors including: nursing, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and more. It's a weeder for the MCAT (organic chemistry).

Anyway, that's great that you're choosing that. If you want any insight my girlfriend is majoring in English right now and she's pretty high up there. She's on the five year track and has upper division standing right now. Lots of fun reading classes that I'm glad I never have to think about. smile But if you want I can get you in touch with her.

Ah, I was on that track and was one semester away from starting three or four computer classes a semester and decided I wanted a little more than a cubicle the rest of my life. Long road since then.

What kind of art do you want to do?

I'm taking Cell and Molecular Biology (basic cell structures and what they're made up of), General Chemistry (how fast reactions go, acids/bases, equilibrium), and Digital Information Age (unstructured learning environment, learn about all different technology, last session we learned about how a house is wired).

Intro to comp sci? Is that for a major or minor? And is that the intro programming or is that an intro to the major? Learning C++ can be a little dry. What major or you trying out for?
