no, that's hoarding. exchanging is when you go into the gaia exchange subforum, buy an item in a thread for about 90 percent [usually] of the marketplace price, and sell it in the marketplace for a profit. more popular items are sold faster, which is good if you want to exchange for a longer time. if you want to hoard, i'd suggest halloween items right now [jack'd bat clips usually go well], but if you're not super patient and can't wait until halloween, you'll likely lose gold.

no it's pretty good, but it doesn't really buy any of the really good items
if you want some real gold, you'll have to booty grab or exchange

achievements are quite stupid; there are no rewards for it as far as i'm concerned.
animated items are equippables that are animated, as you probably guessed. they stay animated for like a month i think and then you have to buy a blessed stellarite for 3Ok to keep it animated another month; it's a nice gold sink.
the gaian economy is s**t right now; everything's probably inflated like hell since you left and the gold you had left is quite likely worth almost nothing.
