About

So I'm 19, I am a girl, I promise biggrin

My boyfriend of 2 years and I broke up on November 14th. It was hard then and it's still hard now. Every day I'm thankful that he still talks to me. I still love him just as much now as I did more than 2 years a go. He is an amazing person and I'm grateful to have him in my life. We've seen eachother through a lot of hard times, and he understands me better than my "best friends." So to completely rid him from my life, is not an option, vice versa.

On November 21st I was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis. It's a mouthful, I know. My parents are worried that I'm taking it as well as I am, but honestly for over a year now I've had a sneaking supision that I had it, I just had to wait for my MRI to come back.

Here is a not so brief description of Multiple Sclerosis(MS):

"Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, potentially debilitating disease that affects your central nervous system, which is made up of your brain and spinal cord. Multiple sclerosis is widely believed to be an autoimmune disease, a condition in which your immune system attacks components of your body as if they're foreign.

In multiple sclerosis, the body mistakenly directs antibodies and white blood cells against proteins in the myelin sheath, a fatty substance that insulates nerve fibers in your brain and spinal cord. This results in inflammation and injury to the sheath and ultimately to the nerves that it surrounds. The result may be multiple areas of scarring (sclerosis). Eventually, this damage can slow or block the nerve signals that control muscle coordination, strength, sensation and vision.

Multiple sclerosis affects an estimated 300,000 people in the United States and probably more than 1 million people around the world — including twice as many women as men. Most people experience their first signs or symptoms between ages 20 and 40.

Multiple sclerosis is unpredictable and varies in severity. In some people, multiple sclerosis is a mild illness, but it can lead to permanent disability in others. Treatments can modify the course of the disease and relieve symptoms."

-Mayo Clinic

My mother and brother have MS as well. It's been apart of our lives for 9 years. My mother was diagnosed in May 1999, my brother May 2004 and myself November 2008.

I plan to become actively involved in the MS Society. It's more common than people would like to admit. If you are dealing with MS either directly or through a friend/family member don't be afraid to talk to me, I'm more than willing ^^

I'd be glad to join up, if you do make one! I'm not sure how many people on here have or know someone who has MS, but there's gotta be someone else, right?

I hope your pledging is going better than mine!

My step-mom has MS, and she was dealing with it pretty good, up til recently. Last summer, I think, she had to go on disability because she was just too tired to go to work every day. It's scary stuff! My dad and sister have been doing the walk for years now, and I thought now was as good a time as any to join them.

Good luck with everything! If I had the money to pledge you, I would!
