Alis Volat Propriis

Description: The King of this land has fallen by the hands of the Queen, the nation's people unaware of this fact. They mourned and grieved for the widowed monarch, yet her face remained unchanging, unreadable. Some assumed the shock prevented her from mourning, others singing her praises by the sunrise, lauding her strength during such a tragic time. Though, as her room was bathed in moonlight, she sang hymns, dancing and celebrating her newly found freedom. She will rule this nation, her "king" but a puppet that outlived his usefulness.
The Queen will take up his crown, and rule proudly. All the land will know the true power of a King, as they will also know fear one can strike in their hearts. Though they will cower behind the closed doors of their homes, grateful that their sole requirement to survive is loyalty, in her presence they will sing the phrase that allow them to avoid having their neck kiss the cold metal of a guillotine: "Alis volat propriis."
