Hello and welcome to the users guide to noobs or the UGN. This guide was written by me D.O.G if you qoute it or re-post please credit. The idea of this guide is so that you can learn what a noob is and how to avoid them. Generally speaking noobs are only online as if people walked around in the streets acting like a noob then they would probably be shot. In this guide I will cover the difference between a Newbie/Newb and a noob, how to spot a noob, and some examples of noob speak.
Newbie VS Noob
Here on Gaia a lot of people refer to Newbie’s as noobs this is somewhat of a pet peeve of mine as newbie’s are simply people who are New, people who are just starting out on here, occasionally they act overconfident and make irritating threads about how they’ve just made 1K and are so proud. But we all had to start somewhere and newbie’s are willing to learn and fix their errors and will eventually move out of the newbie stage. Noobs however show no will or intention to learn and usually know very little, they beg for items and gold expecting people to bend to their every whim they have been known to try and use phishing scams and such to gain more things without actually putting in the work. People who are not noobs often refer to noobs as “n00b” as a sign of disrespect. So please people know the difference between a Newb and a Noob, because I know if I was a newb and someone called me a noob I’d be very insulted.
The simple way to differentiate between a newbie and a noob is to point out their errors, if they have failed to comply to the threads rules or have clearly misspelled a word just correct them, and if they return with a post filled with incomprehensible wall of text and numbers then they are a noob. If they except their error and apologies then they are simply a newb.
Noobs in the wild
When I observed noobs in the wild I noticed that they often communicate with their own language which usually consists of varying capitals, numbers and spelling errors. After studying the wild noobs I noticed that anyone who tried to communicate with them were usually succumb to a barrage of verbal attacks, and what started as one noob quickly multiplied into several, it appears that they work in packs and often refer to the person they are attacking as a “noob“. Their colonies thrive in forums and they are most active on the weekend. Once they nest in a forum their numbers increase and you see noobs mutating into spammers. A noob can become one of these at any point and will spam a thread until its death with pointless information and images. Usually a moderator comes along and employs the ban hammer.
Noobs are self confident, aggressive and self-centered. It appears to be instinct for them to gather in packs for defense. Noobs appear to have difficulty reading English and appear to be unable to comprehend the idea of authority. They therefore have a complete disregard for rules and appear to blatantly and purposely break and ignore them. Noobs profile pages tend to have a terrible lack of content, background music and a lot of pointless animated gifs (not to be mistaken with a over enthusiastic anime/manga fan).
The main factor in attracting migrating herd of noobs is a large active thread, often with a giveaway of some description however many such threads often have hired moderators to control the infestations. Noobs tend to gather in active threads and harass the gaian folk that post and reside there. If anyone try’s to correct their spelling errors or point out the rules that are in place, the noobs usual retort is to completely spam the thread arguing and calling everyone names and generally being an annoyance
Noobish behavior
Noobs try to get people to donate to them using various ploys such as “hey donate to me I just got hacked” however their post would look something more like “]-[3Y D0||/-3T 2 ]/[/- I jU5T G0t ]-[/-K3D”, Or they will see someone with a expensive item and continue to hound them begging for the item or donations. Both of these are very irritating things to do as its very hard to get “hacked” on gaia, yes your account may be succumb to a phishing scam, or you may of trusted your password with a friend neither of which is “hacking” there is a difference between hacking and getting scammed, And hounding someone begging for donations is just plain irritating.
Another thing that noobs do is cybering, now most of this takes place in Rallying or Towns. It’s pretty easy to avoid just go to rally’s and towns with your friends. However this doesn’t always stop them often you see those little pixilated bodies humping the hell out of one another in a corner and if your particularly unlucky then there will be one humping you. The best and simplest way to end this is to leave, go to a different town or rally room. There’s no point telling them to stop as it will only encourage them. The best way to deal with noobs is to completely ignore them. Eventually like a child they will become bored and leave you alone.
There are artist noobs as well and i use the term "artist" rather losely here, those who spend five minuets on a mediocre excuse of a drawing done in paint and expect to sell it for 20K+. Now I’m not saying that art done on MS paint isn’t art there are some mind-blowing pieces of art out there that have been created on MS paint. Noobs art shops tend to have lot’s of banners made of such websites as “glitter maker” ”pimpmyprofile” they also tend to use brightly coloured fonts, often with gradient text. Their shops tend to lack rules or if there is any usualy stupid ones like "no cybering". Their art examples are usually covered in hideious watermarks so nobody can steal them. And they very rarely have any kind of order to their stores.
I hope by reading this guide you have a better understanding of noobs and how to deal with them, and will not mistake newbs for noobs. This guide will most likely be edited and added to as the noobs evolve and mutate.
If you have made your own studys about noob's and wish to add infomation to this guide then please PM me with the PM title "Noob Guide"
