Kristen Danelle Steele
[Kr-ist-in Dan-el St-e-el]
No, I am not Bipolar...
╚═════════════════╝

Laying on her belly on the bed, Kristen hummed while staring at the magazine. She had read this article five times, and this would be her sixth. This two paged article on how this girl married her girl friend. It was something that she would die for. She always wanted to tell her father about Haley, but she couldn't.

Sighing, she rolled onto her back to stare at the ceiling. It was pink, like the rest of her room. As a toddler, her father decided to change the white walls to something cute to look at. Of course, it was cute back then, now it was just boring. But, she did have many pink things around the room which went well enough with the same color of the walls. Also, there was another reason for keeping the walls pink. Her father still wanted her to be a child, and she didn't want to show him that she lost her innocence. Of course, she was as perfect as can be around him. It was just what she did. At school and other places without him, she changed. Daddy was the only thing keeping her sanity, and just knowing he was in the other room kept her calm.

Thinking about her father, Krissy's eyes closed slowly until her body went numb on the bed. The images of pictures that she memorized of her birth that her father took jumped around in front of her eyes. One was of Grandma holding the small little body that was now her and then a picture of mommy holding her. There was none of Grandpa because he wasn't married to her Grandma then, and also there was none of Daddy because he was taking the pictures. Anyway, there were enough of them she had. He was the only one left that witnessed her birth and was still living. Mom died two years after Kristen was born, and then Grandma passed away two months ago. It was a tragic moment, and it still made her cry sometimes.

A door opened slowly and a new atmosphere arose in the room. "Krissy, do you still want to go on that trip? We got a letter accepting you." The soft voice had moved towards her and sat down on the bed by her trying to sleep body. That voice did not bother her. No, the calm melodic voice swept with a lady-like string in the air. Janet is a nice lady, for sure, but Kristen would rather her father tell this to her.

Another voice came into the room with an introduction, "I really think you would like it Kristen." This voice was rough, but also relaxed; her father. His words where formed with hurt, and she knew why. He wouldn't want her gone for months, but he wanted his only daughter happy. Who wouldn't want their own young have a joyful life? Well, there could be some, but if you subtract the most of the parents that are under the age of nineteen, runs with drugs, or the parents that hate themselves. Okay, that’s a lot of people, but the normal ones want their kids to be happy, right?

Opening her eyes, Krissy sat up letting out air. Of course the trip would be fun and she wanted to go, but leaving her father and Janet . . . that was just harder. The choice was too difficult to make. "Can you go with me? I don't want to go alone." Her question went to both of them, and she shared her glances towards her family. She knew their answers, but it wouldn't be hard to try one more time, no?

She remembered that moment that decided this fate. It was just a memory, like everything. It took her a week to pack her things and many calls to her few friends that she really loved. All the stuff she was taking was packed up into the car already, but she didn't want to move from her bed. Just that little movement closer towards leaving her home would be hard. A vibration pulsed in her hand, and looking down at her white phone, she sighed. Picking it up, it said ten new messages. How long had she just been staring into space? Usually the vibration freaked her out.

The first five messages where from Haley. She was worried about her leaving. Haley got worried about everything, and it wasn't fair for Kristen to make her love get so scared. Pulling up a new page to write a message, she flipped her phone to make a key board appear. Quickly, her message, 'I don't think I should go, anymore.' was up and sent just before her door opened. Daddy stood there with a sullen face. "I am ready, I guess." Standing up tears balled up in her eyes and she embraced him. He would be in the car with her until he would drop her off at the airport, but she didn't want to leave home.

Soon she was in the car, and during the ride, she replied to all those unread text messages, no matter how much they made her cry. The car ride was over quickly, and she shed more tears while saying goodbye to her parents. Her father handed her the plane ticket right in front of the door that she would have to go in threw to get the plane. It wouldn't be a joyful trip at all. One last hug from her father and Janet, then she was on her way on the plane. She was seated, her stuff under her in the storage of the plane besides her iPod, cell phone, purse, and a sweat shirt. There were some things she would really need that where in her purse, like pills, emergency pads, and more. Putting in her head phones, the song Super Massive Black Hole by Muse came on. It was catchy, and good enough. Sighing, she looked out the round window, lonely already.

It had just hit midnight, Emelia looked up at her clock and let out a deep exasperated sigh. She had so much to get done before classes started up again and she was about ready to just throw all her papers against the wall. She decided she would take a little nap and then try finishing it all when she woke up. As she lay in bed she was hesitant to turn off the lights but then finally with a couple minutes of tossing and turning she got up and hit the off switch on her wall. The room instantly filled with darkness leaving her to feel her way back to her bed. She layed back down in bed once again but couldn't sleep, so many thoughts of Derrek kept running through her mind and she began to cry. She quickly wiped away her tears "Why am I even crying over that b*****d anyway he moved to California I don't have to worry about him anymore." The more she tried to convince herself all the pain was over the more she worried it wasn't, she had been hurt and abused by guys her whole life to the point the thought brought tears to her eyes. "Get over it" She shouted angrily to herself. She sighed realizing that turning off the lights was a mistake and got up and turned the switch back on. She once again plopped down on her bed and pulled out her journal and scribbled something quickly in it then placed it back under her bed. She decided tonight was going to be one of those nights that no matter what she did nothing was going to help her sleep.
She propped up in bed with her laptop and opened two tabs, one for her email and the other one for her facebook. In the status on facebook she wrote
Another one of those nights she paused, looked at it then deleted it. She didn't like being questioned and her friend would surely question why once again she couldn't sleep.
When she went to check her email she saw two messages, one was spam which she deleted right away the other from her step parents who were off on a second honeymoon cruise. She didn't like being alone but she was happy that her parents trusted her enough to be.
Hey Em,
Just wanted to let you know we are doing wonderfully but your father is so worried about you. I guess he thinks you can't handle yourself alone but I know you can. Just wanted to see how you were doing, oh and I wanted to ask, did you ever hear back from that contest?
Hope to see you soon.
Love and Hugs, Mom

"OH WOW I completely forgot about the contest." Emelia had been so busy with trying to get all her papers done that she forgot to check the mail that day. When she first signed up she checked every single day hoping maybe something would go right in her life for once but she tried not to be too hopeful so she soon forgot all about it
Dear Mom,
I am doing great, haven't had any problems here just been really busy. I am glad to hear you guys are having a fun time and tell dad not to worry, I will be ok.
I am about to check the mail, I actually completely forgot. I will let you know though.
Love you, Emmie

She closed her laptop and set it on the floor next to her nightstand and rustled her way through the papers to retrieve the mail and immediately started flipping though it.
"Junk, junk, bills, junk, bills, bills, survey, junk" As she flipped to the last piece of mail she noticed her name scrawled on the front. No it can't be...can it? Her eyes widened in shock as she read the acceptance she received. Finally the trip she had so desperately needed, she had won it, this was exactly what she needed to do to get away from the pain. "Just a simple vacation" she squealed in delight.
She pulled out her phone and texted her best friend
Gonna need a ride to the airport tomorrow
Love Emmie

For the first time in weeks, Emelia actually slept.

The next day her friend dropped her off at the airport, she didn't get out of the car though which surprised Emelia but she was ok going alone.

"Now you do have everything don't you" questioned her friend with a doubting look on her face
"Of course I have everything I'm not like you who is always forgetful"
The two laughed for a minute and then Emelia slammed the door shut, waving as the car drove away.
"This is it" she breathed a sigh of both nervousness and excitement. Getting through to the gate was easy enough but she couldn't seem to find the gate she was suppose to go to. She decided to ask the lady at the desk
"Let me see your pass please."
She fished out the boarding pass from her purse and handed it to the lady "Ahh ok you want to go all the way down this aisle then take a right, you should see it." "Oh ok thank you so much" she said as she smiled then once again went on the search to find her gate.
After following the lady's directions and stopping to get a latte she finally found her gate. They had just called for boarding so she rushed up, handed the attendant the ticket then hurried up to the plane fearing no seats left.
As she looked around she saw several people, some about her age. She decided to sit in an empty seat, just to avoid possible annoyances with someone that was reserving a seat or wanted to be alone. She pulled out her Ipod turned it up all the way then sat back and relaxed waiting to take off.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Sitting on the floor, her legs stretched out and her head and back leaning against the side of her bed, Aida stared up at the white ceiling of her room. Well...to her, the ceiling wasn't always completely white. When she was a kid, she used to see things move on her ceiling. Shadowed figures or splashes of color. She preferred to see the later. Seeing shadowed figures in her room moving at night didn't help her relax or fall asleep. But for now, the ceiling was plain white. She was bored and the only noise she could hear at the moment was her parents talking about her. Aida couldn't really hear what they were saying exactly in Korean, but she got the gist of it. A while back, Aida had received an invitation to go on a trip. Her parents were concerned. They wanted her to go out and have fun, but they were worried that she might act up. She knew they were thinking about what she had tried to do as a kid. She could never forget or forgive herself for her actions. They were inexcusable, regardless of what she said, and she knew it. But it had been quite some time since she had acted violently. Of course she was still on some meds, but they didn't affect her as badly as Clozapine. Rather, they didn't affect her at all, but at least they didn't make her condition worse.

Regardless of any last feelings of anxiety or reluctance, it didn't change the fact that Aida was still going on the trip. She personally didn't care whether or not she went on the trip. She doubted she would make any friends. Aida doubted change. She had come to accept the fact that her strange behavior drove people away from her. It wasn't that she looked weird, she looked normal, but once she started to point out things that weren't there, talk to thin air, and hear things that weren't coming from anywhere, people had a tendency to stop talking to her and to edge away. It was typical of people to try and stay away from anyone who acted 'weird'. But it didn't matter. She still had Cloza and Risper. They were her friends and it didn't matter if they weren't real to anyone else. They were real for her.

Currently, the two were lounging on the floor with her. Cloza sat curled up by her legs, his head resting against her thigh, while Risper was laying on her bed, her hands entwined in Aida's hair. Her friends' appearances were quite a sight. Cloza resembled something like a large purpleish pink cat-like boy. He had a long body with long slender legs. When he stood up, he towered over her. He also had a really long tail. His eyes were bright gold along with his claws. His whole body was covered in purpleish pink fur with some black stripes like a tiger, except for a bit on his head, which was golden yellow running from the base of his neck to the top of his head, draping down over his forehead like bangs. He had three gold piercings on his left and two on his right. His only article of clothing were black pants. Other than that, he was bare chested 24/7. Risper on the other hand, looked like a red squirrel and an Indian. Her whole body was covered in reddish fur, except for the white fur from her chest down, complete with a long busy tail with small ears on top the top of her head. However, in comparison to Cloza, she looked more like a person. Her face resembled a woman, but also a bit of a squirrel. She had large dark eyes, whiskers, and a small face. She had braided hair bedecked with accessories from the top of her head to a bit past her shoulder. She was about Aida's height, but a bit taller. Her chest was covered by a beige strip of cloth and she wore a skirt, with slits up both sides, of the same color.

Aida was still listening to her parents' murmuring voices, when Cloza nudged her face with his tail, his golden eyes fixed on her face, his lips curled into a smile. Looking back down at him, she asked.

                                "What?"

"Shouldn't we be going now? It's about time after all."

"He's right. We'll miss the plane if we don't go now. You're parents have talked enough.

With a sigh, Aida got up. Risper retracted her hand from Aida's hair, and Cloza moved off of her thigh. Grabbing her handbag, which had her ipod, phone, and other necessities, Aida exited her room without a backwards glance, Cloza and Risper right behind her. Going downstairs to where her parents were waiting, they looked up at her then at the clock. She could see their surprise at seeing how fast time had gone by. They jumped up from their seats, apologized to her for not watching the time, and ushered her quickly to the door and into the car.

Once they had finally arrived at the airport, her parents accompanied her inside. She would have told them she was fine and that they could just go home, but she understood that they were worried. After all, she rarely ever went outside, but it wasn't as if it was her first time on a plane, she knew the drill. She dropped her luggage in the luggage area, passed through security, and then headed towards the gate. She said her goodbyes to her parents and then headed over to the board the plane. Handing her ticket over to the lady in charge of the tickets, she passed through and was finally on the plane. Glancing around for a seat, she could hear Cloza and Risper already acting like kids and pointing out which seats they wanted. Hushing them both, Aida chose an empty window seat.

David and Sue had gone out, leaving Emma alone under the care of Ricky, their seventeen year old son, for the night. David and Sue were this month's foster parents, but Emma hated using the word "parents". If she started using words like that, she might believe that they cared about her. They did not. None of them did. It seemed as if every home Emma was sent to was in it only for the government money. As soon as David and Sue saw the check in the mail, they were gone, off to spend the night in the pub.

Ricky hated having to babysit Emma just as much as she hatted to having to be babysat by him, but instead of just fuming, he tended to take it out on her. Tonight he had stolen her small weekly allowance that was sent along with David and Sue's check. Emma had tried to retrieved the money and gotten punched for her trouble. Ricky had stormed of to his room, slamming the door behind him. Emma sat on the kitchen counter and tried to hold in tears. I hate this. The words swirled around her mind like angry fog. I hate Ricky. I hate this house. I hate this family. I hate- She slipped from the counter and landed on the sticky floor with a crack. Twisting into a sitting position, Emma held her head between her knees to keep from becoming unconscious. Tears leaked from her eyes, slid along her cheeks, and fell to the floor.

Her foot was against the pile of mail fallen from the counter top. In a rush of anger, Emma grabbed a fist-full of bills, magazines, and letters and hurled them across the room. Grabbing another handful, she was about to give it the same treatment when something caught her eye. One of the letters was addressed to "The Guardian(s) of Emma Lillith Kithing". She stopped, letting all of the mail but the letter flutter to the floor. Maybe it was a transfer notice. Maybe Emma would get to go to a family that cared about her. Yeah right. Emma ripped open the envelope, expecting to see the usual government issue slightly off-white paper. Instead, the paper was a crisp washer-bleach white. The jaunty blue border seemed to scream charming. Who ever had written the letter had gone almost too far in trying to make the letter interesting. Splashes of color decorated the back ground, and pictures of smiling children were scattered about the multicolored text. Emma began to read. Dear Gaurdian(s) of Emma Lillith Kithing, Congratulations! Emma has won...

Emma reread the letter three times, not believing it. Was it some sort of scam? It could not be, not with all of the official credentials. Emma took five minutes to check the names and studies, using Sue's computer. She was forbidden from touching the ancient pile of circuits, but if this letter was real, it would not matter anymore. Disney World. I'm going to Disney World. Emma sat there for a moment, stunned, then jumped from the chair punching the air. "Oh my God, yes!" A door slammed open upstairs and Ricky glared down the stairs at Emma. "Shut up, will you? And get away from mom's comp." As he stomped back to his room, Emma felt her hopes fall. David and Sue would never let her go. So what if they don't let me? Emma thought, starting to grin. I don't need them.

Grabbing her beat up backpack from her room, Emma stuffed her possessions into it. It was not much. A few changes of clothing, a little cash she had saved up, a comic book with dog-eared pages, and, of course, her ipod. Emma had saved up for years for it. Music was Emma's obsession. She love listening to it, playing guitar to it (she had "borrowed" Ricky's guitar for a while), and singing to it. Emma could not imagine living without her music. Slinging the backpack over her shoulders and carrying the letter in the pocket of her jeans, Emma walked out of the door for what she hoped was the last time.

****

Emma stepped off the bus and onto the sidewalk in front of the airport. It was a mad house with people running every which way, some at the frantic pace of those about to miss their flight, others at the slow rambling walk of one who had hours to kill waiting for the boarding call. Suddenly nervous, Emma walked to the back of the ticket line. She had nearly four hours before her flight left, but she had nothing else to do. There was no way in hell she was going back to the house, Ricky would probably kill her for trying to run away. After a long half of an hour spent in line, Emma reached the ticket counter. She handed the bored looking lady behind it the letter. She skimmed over it, then motioned for Emma to follow another lady. This new lady, her name tag proclaimed her to be "Hello, my name is Janice", smiled at Emma. "Why, aren't you a lucky girl? This trip looks like a ton of fun. Come on, let's get you to your gate." Emma trailed after Hello-my-name-is-Janice, wondering what the other kids on the trip would be like. The letter had said that this trip was some sort of contest for troubled kids. Emma did not know what to hope for.

Hello-my-name-is-Janice sat Emma down in one of the chairs that lined the waiting area and told her to "just hold on a little while" for the intercom to call flight 37b to boarding. Then she walked away, leaving Emma on her own. Unsure of what else to do, Emma pulled out her head phones. Closing her eyes, she let herself fall into the music.

With closed eyes and her lips firmly closed the black-haired girl listened to the thunderstorm that raged outside. It was quite a nice reflection of what she was currently feeling inside. Today had been a horrible day at school. Normally her days at the place were boring and not worth mentioning, but this time had been different. The school counselor had wanted a small conversation with her. That alone was not unusual, she was often send to the school counselor, mostly when she got a new teacher and he or she got worried by her behaviour. Not that she made any trouble during class, the problem was quite the opposite. When miss Talar Hrag was in class she did nothing at all, or at least, she did not interact. She didn't talk too her classmates, she didn't respond to the questions the teacher asked her, she just sat there, quietly taking notes. Only when her educator would get really upset, she would look up at him and tell him or her that he should not complain. Her grades were above average, her homework was always done and she made notes during class, she was a top student. According to her, the teacher would be more useful punishing all the students that disturbed the lesson, instead of her, who'd done nothing there.
Somehow they never liked it when she said that and send her to the school counselor, to talk out her problems with her.

But nothing along those lines happened during the day. All the teachers were familiar with Talar and just let the girl do her own thing, but she was still called over to the small office at the third floor of the building. The girl often wondered how much Mrs.Highfields, that was the name of the counselor, got paid for spending her entire day in such a crammed place, talking to all the future delinquents. Probably not enough.
After one short knock, Talar entered, not bothering to wait for the reply. Mrs.Highfields had asked her to come over, so there was no reason to await approval, right?
There the woman was already waiting for her, with one of the biggest fake smiles the girl had ever seen. Mrs.Highfields often reminded her of a duck, with her big eyes, that didn't show any sign of real intelligence and the striped turtlenecks she liked to wear, not too mention her low, yet squealing voice.
"Hello miss Hrag, do come in." she said, still visibly struggling with Talar's last name. The girl self said nothing, just sat down in one of the chairs in front of the woman's desk. She gazed up in the older woman's eyes, clearly awaiting for her to start the conversation. The poor counselor felt uncomfortable with the girl's silent staring, but pretended to ignore it and decided it would be best to immediately tell her why she had called her to her office.
"Congratulations Talar! You've been selected from all the High School students to go on a trip through America! You will do all sorts of fun things, like a vacation during school hours!" the woman spoke enthusiastically, a bit too enthusiastic, in Talar's opinion. She didn't feel like going to a fun trip at all.
"No thank you." and with those words the girl stood up and walked out of the door, without giving the woman another glance.

But that strange conversation wasn't the reason why Talar was so upset, sitting in her closed off room, listening to the weather outside. She was feeling miserable because when she came home she found out that the school counselor had called her father with the news and he was determent to make her go on that trip. she tried to tell him kindly that she was not interested in going and that someone else would probably be a lot happier with the vacation than that she would be. But her good old father had decided that this would be good for her, too meet new people, see more than her own hometown for a change. Talar almost never got angry at her father, just because she knew he couldn't handle it, he was an emotional wreck since the divorce, but this time she was shaking from anger. How could he not understand that she wanted to stay with him, take care of him, be there when he was sad? She knew that it wasn't normal and that normal people her ages didn't do those things. She knew every argument he used, but she still didn't want to go. Years ago she had promised to stay beside her father and help him get over the betrayal of her mother and sister and she wasn't planning on breaking that promise.
But her father stayed so suborn, convinced that he was right. He blamed Talar's lack of friends on himself, he knew close to nothing about how asocial his daughter really was and she just let him. He even yelled at her, telling that she would go, if she wanted or not, it was for her own good.

Now she was in her room, her door locked, so her father could not enter. It had been two days since her father had ordered her to go on that stupid trip. It was pointless to object, he had decided it would be best for her to go, so she had too. But that didn't mean she was happy about it. As a protest she had only came out of her room to go to the bathroom and drink a little water, food was unnecessary, she didn't like to eat when she was upset, it made her feel sick.
Talar sighed and brushed the dark strands of hair out of her eyes, then she looked around her room. She stood up and grabbed a bag. It was best if she would start packing, she had to arrive in Florida in three days. Maybe it wasn't what she wanted, but still, she was going on a journey.

Lucy embraced him tightly. "Be careful, darling. Call every night, I beg you." Her voice was like velvet and caressed his ear. Patting her lower back gently, little tears fled down his face. Those tears where cold and full of sorrow. This was an adventure he wanted, but he didn't know how he would survive without his wife. Danny's wife's breathing grew hard as she tried to hold back sobs. Never once have they been away from each other for longer than a day, so being gone for weeks would hurt both of them. Truly, he didn't know how they ended up being with each other every morning, but that was just what happened. Daniel was meant to be a family man and at home twenty-four seven.

His wife left the embrace and turned away crying. Knowing how she hated to show her weak side, Daniel left her alone. Annie stole her father before he could mosey off. "Oh Daddy, mom will be so sad without you. Maybe you should stay, for her, and Darien and me." Annie was one of his weaknesses. She was the daddy's girl, and she would do mostly everything with him, no matter what. When nobody would go fishing, play sports, or fix something, Annie would be there at his side ready to do anything he told her. No, he didn't use her as a slave, no; she was his partner in crime. A little laugh escaped when he thought of being "partners in crime."

"I have to go, I am sorry, hun. You can call me when ever you want, no matter the time of day. Okay? And, be nice to your mum." Since Annie was more loving towards him, so times she had an attitude towards her mom. That hurt his wife a lot, so he had to say it. Kissing the top of her head, Annie sighed and agreed. She let her lips touch her father's cheek, and then she went over to her mother. Daniel knew that she would do that to obey his orders, so he started looking for Darien.

Unlike Annie, Darien had straightened her curls out of her chemically dyed black hair. Of course, Daniel knew why Annie kept those curls, but he didn't know why Darien didn't like hers. Both of his daughters and his wife had the most beautiful blonde curls growing from their heads. Who wouldn't want them? He was happy he didn't ruin that gene of his wife's. It was a shame that Darien did that to her hair, but he loved his daughter more than anything. Putting a finger under her chin, he pulled Darien’s head up to look at him. "I am going to miss you. Will you at least give your ol' man a hug goodbye?" Her shoulders shrugged up then back down.

After a few seconds of him just waiting for her, she threw her arms around him. "Oh, I am so sorry, daddy." He could feel a dampness seeping through his thin white and blue striped long sleeve shirt. Caressing his daughter's back swiftly, he couldn't believe she said that. Darien said daddy. It had been thirteen years since he heard that word out of his now sixteen year old daughter. His face shriveled up and flew with tears. Also, his once moving hand stopped and gripped the back of her shirt. He was so elated and sullen at the same time. It was so hard to know what was happening.

It seemed like hours that he embraced his daughter, but it was just mere minutes. Like nobody was around watching, time had stopped, and every little second of the past years was spent like this, they stood there hugging and sobbing. But, it did seem like the song Come On started playing like that background music on a movie. A perfect movie moment that seemed to slip into real life. "It's been too long to let go now." He whispered. That was a little smidgen of the lyrics that he just had to whisper.

"Come on, come on. If you wana make it right, let's make it right tonight." Darien whispered back to him; another piece of the lyrics. She lightly laughed the tears away, and soon Daniel chimed in. He kissed her head softly and patted her back twice before letting go. "You can always call me, hun. Whenever you want, I will answer." Letting his hand fall down from the top of her head to her shoulder, he sighed at her hair. If that was what she wanted, than he wasn't going to argue.

A hand landed on his shoulder and grasped it loosely. The woman behind him was defiantly his wife. Annie had a small hand since she was only twelve and had some growth hormone problems that made her shorter than the average height for her age. Nobody in his family was short like Annie, but that was what made her unique. Turning into his wife's body, he pulled her lips into a kiss. It was short and sweet. Words were not the thing he wanted right now, he wanted to leave without hearing another thing. If he did, he couldn't leave. Luckily, everything stayed quiet besides the foot steps of him and his wife.

Soon he was in his blue Saturn and starting the car. Everything was in the back besides his iPhone, wallet -which where in his pockets-, and his sun glasses tucked in the neck of his shirt. Lucy plopped into the passenger seat, and then he got the car to back up out of the garage. Darien and Annie had to stay home, and that was why he had goodbyes there. Also, he wanted to leave his wife without making to much of a scene in the airport. He didn't need strangers staring awkwardly.

              ✰ ✰ ✰

After a long plane ride and a flash back of all the goodbyes he made and tears shed, his legs finally got to stand up out of the seat. It took a while to adjust, but his wobbly legs finally got walking towards the exit. Going towards the lounge like waiting room that was at the airport that everyone was suppose to meet at, he almost forgot about his luggage. Seeing that nobody was there in the room, he headed to the spinning little luggage pick up station. Daniel collected two suitcases and a back pack.

It took him a while to get situated in the lounge room, but he did. Waiting for his friends and the selected children to show up to the room that they had written in the letter to meet at, he sighed. Maybe he had the first flight to land. But, he was heading here from Montana, so his flight may have also been scheduled earlier than others. Oh well, he was here before any kids had to worry, and that was all that mattered.

A vibration went off in his pocket. It was home that was calling, already. He had only been gone for three hours; did they really already miss him? Answering the phone, Daniel put it to his ear. "Daddy, can I tell you something? I want you to know." Darien had started the conversation without even making sure it was him. Well, he would say he would answer, so he shrugged to himself. If it was important enough to call him right now, than he was going to listen. Of course, he didn't want to ruin the hope that he could renew his relationship with his daughter. Quickly he answered with a yes. "Please don't be mad at me daddy, I love you. I haven't even told mom about this, and I don't think she will understand. And, I think you would listen to me better." She breathed in deeply, and then started again. "I am pregnant."

Aida settled into her seat comfortably, resting her head back fully. Cloza and Risper were arguing over who would get to sit next to Aida. She sighed and moved to the middle seat. They looked at each other and then Cloza leapt over her legs to the window seat. Risper huffed and muttered, disgruntled that she didn't get a chance to get the window seat. But she eventually settled down into the seat next to the aisle. Taking her ipod out of her bag, Aida put the earbuds into her ears, set the volume at a respectable level before laying it on her lap. Both Cloza and Risper had eventually settled down. Thankfully, no one had stopped to ask to take a seat beside her. It wasn't that she disliked company, but she knew the kind of reaction people would have if she tried to explain to them that they couldn't because they were already occupied.

Something of the sort had happened at school when a couple of kids had approached her during lunch and had asked to sit next to her. Of course they had exchanged weird looks at each other before turning away. There were times when she tried to act 'normal' and ignore Cloza and Risper...well...that didn't turn out to well. The two made such a fuss that she could not pretend anymore and had ended up shouting at them. Of course the little amount of friends she had made had nothing more to do with her after that. Aida was saddened that she had failed to make any friends at school, but she just came to accept the fact that Cloza and Risper were the only two she had and would accept her, even though no one else could see them. After a year in high school, she lost interest in making 'normal' friends. She didn't really care anymore that people looked at her weird, talked behind her back in whispers, or made fun of her openly. She saw more weirder, or, as she would say, interesting things, heard whispers all the time, and could easily make fun of them, but that wasn't the kind of person she was, nor did she have the heart in her to do so.

The plane ride to Florida from Connecticut didn't take too long nor were there any complications. Cloza and Risper behaved well by staying quiet. Aida took a little nap, since she didn't get much sleep the night before. Once the plane had safely landed, she unbuckled her seatbelt, stood up with her bag in hand, having stowed away her ipod beforehand. She exited the plane along with the rest of the passengers and walked out into the airport. It was her first time in Florida so she was slightly unsure. Aida strode over to the luggage area and found her two luggage bags, one roller and one large gym bag. Lifting them off the moving belt, Aida set the larger luggage on the floor, while placing the strap of the gym bag over her head and on her shoulder. With the rolling luggage bag rolling behind her, the gym bag strap resting on her shoulder and the bag resting against her hip, and her purse in hand, she strode over to the waiting area. Though she was struggling slightly. Risper had decided to sit on the rolling bag rather than walk. Aida's arm felt sore from trying to pull the heavy luggage. Annoyed, she hissed at her friend.

"Do you mind not giving me a hard time?"

                                She hissed.

                                "Yeah. Stop being so lazy."

                                Cloza added half jokingly.

Risper huffed at Cloza, but got up from the luggage bag and strode beside Aida. The moment her friend had gotten off the bag, she felt the weight lift, and had an easier time pulling the bag behind her. Reaching the waiting area, there seemed to be only one other person waiting there. An adult judging by his appearance. But she wasn't really sure if he was one of the adults she was suppose to meet. The letter did say the meet up in the waiting area. She approached cautiously, but didn't go right up to him. He was on his phone, so she didn't want to interrupt his conversation.

The ride to Florida seemed to take forever no matter what she did it never seemed to pass the time very quickly. She remembered when she first walked on the plane and took her seat she was listening to music when a boy around her age tried sitting next to her. Granted he was fairly cute but it freaked Emelia out and so she apologized and said she was saving it for someone. The boy didn't object just gave a small sigh and nodded then proceeded to walk off and take an empty seat in the far back of the plane. Emelia sunk back in her seat and thought about that boy, she couldn't help but wish she would have said yes but she was too terrified, she just couldn't get hurt again, she couldn't have what happened to her over and over happen again. She began to cry and rock back and forth. Some older people looked over at her but were too uninterested in her to do anything. She then pulled out a book to read but she couldn't concentrate. She kept thinking about that boy she lied to, she couldn't help but wonder if he would notice the still empty seat next to her. She closed her book and gave a sigh then looked back at him who happened to be sitting next to some older women chatting about some unknown subject. She turned back around and started wondering if she would ever be able to date again, thoughts soon interrupted by a lady who came around with drinks. Her hair was long and beautiful, she looked like she could be a model. Emelia was tempted to ask the lady why she did a crappy job like this when she could be off having pictures taken of her, put in magazines for teen girls to woo over and envy. Instead she just simply asked if she had any alcohol.
"Exactly how old are you miss"

Emelia sat up high in her seat and tried to make her voice sound deeper
"Umm 22"
"I don't think so miss, do you have any ID"?

"Ok fine"
she said knowing she was defeated and there was no use trying to argue with her " I'll just have water then"
"Mhmm that what I thought
said the lady with a little smirk. She then poured a small cup with water and handed it to Emelia then continued on her way. Emelia gave a quick glare at the lady then lightly sipped her drink wishing so badly that it was a strawberry daiquiri or an apple martini, she would have even been happy for just plain wine.
It had been a little over an hour after the stewardess came by when the pilot finally announced they would be landing shortly. Emelia checked and made sure everything was in her bag and then just sat and stared outside waiting for the plane to finally hit ground.
Shortly after the announcement everyone was getting up and gathering their stuff, she followed suit. Then everyone began shuffling out into the aisle but she decided not to butt in anyone's way so she waited for almost everyone to retreat from the plane before going.
She was the last one on the plane, and the same boy from before was just in front of her. She moved out in the aisle but kept her distance.
She finally made it out without making contact with the boy but she couldn't help but notice a sullen expression on his face, no doubt from the obvious empty seat. She was afraid he would question but he didn't, just went on his way.

Emelia followed people who had gotten off the same plane as she had so she could find out where to pick up her luggage. She found people she recognized huddle over by the rotating luggage. She quickly spotted hers and dashed over nearly missing it but grabbing it just as it was about to pass through to again continue its circulation. She lugged it off the rounder onto the ground, it was heavier than she had remembered. She checked the tag to make sure it was hers then sat down by a nearby bench to rest. She was so tired and hungry but she wanted to meet up with the group just in case they left her behind or something. She pulled out the papers that told her where to go and read it silently to herself then got up and made her way there. It was actually fairly easy to find but only two people had arrived. She decided to take an empty seat away from the two, glancing over she noticed an older man. He seemed to be having a conversation and by the looks of it not a happy one. She also noticed another person, this one was a girl. She figured perhaps she was one of the winners of the contest also. Emelia sat her stuff down, ran over to a nearby store, bought a candy bar and returned back to her seat sitting in silence besides from the bustling of the rest of the airport and the conversation the man was having which she tried to drown out with thoughts, but all she could think about was that boy that tried to sit next to her and the look on his face when he saw she was in fact holding that seat for no one.

The words his daughter spoke traveled slowly down his throat as he swallowed his tongue. Why would she do that? Darien knew that sex was bad. He wasn't going to get angry. That was the worst thing he could do right now. His father wasn't there for him, so he felt like he needed to be there for his kids. Taking in a calming breath, he saw a girl arrive. Motioning to her that it would take him a while, he also said, "Acquire a seat, please." after taking the phone away from his mouth.

"Are you still there daddy? I am so sorry. Please don't be mad. I love you." Her pleads went on like she was about to die. That salty water built up in his tear ducts and he wanted to lets them down. "Daddy, I didn't know what I was doing. He started kissing and touching me . . . I ju- . . . I just couldn't help it." Those where similar to the words he spoke to his own father, but he was talking about Lucy instead of a boy. Daniel couldn't blame his daughter. Both of them where now victims of seduction.

Taking in a breath, he closed his eyes and thought. What could he say to her now? The girl was on a precipice of insanity. "If only you could have told me before I left...." he started, but didn't know how to finish the sentence. It felt as if he was falling to pieces right where he sat. "I don't know what to say. Sorry darling, you are going to have to inform your mother, or I will inform her." Truly, he didn't want to tattle on his daughter to his wife, but having a baby is a big thing, and Darien was only sixteen. Sighing, Daniel started talking again. "Can we talk later? I have to go."

His daughter huffed out a breath of air sought over that deal. "Okay. Call me later." Her words where drenched in sullen sauce and smothered with disappointment. "I love you Daddy." Without his reply, she hung up. Dropping the cell phone onto the seat next to him, he buried his face into his hands. Now his tears fell into puddles, and he didn't even notice the second girl come in. All he could think about was his daughter, so broken because her father couldn't be there for her. That was what happened to him, by both his mother and father. It wasn't a good thing that he was tormenting Darien like that.

After a few minutes of constant sobbing, he wiped the dewed tears off his face and sat up. His eyes where stricken red and his lips quivered violently. Why now? Pushing a happy façade to his face, he looked to the two teenagers and sighed. Biting down onto his lip, he just stared. "Sorry, I just can't do this right now. Excuse me." After grabbing his iPhone, he got up and left into the bathroom that was connected to the waiting area.

Placing the cell phone in his pant pocket, he took a stall and just sat on the lid of the toilet. Balancing his head onto the palm of his hand, he just stared into outer space. It took a few minutes to pull his self together, and then Daniel stood up. His knees buckled leading him to fall into the wall of the bathroom stall. Pushing his body to sit upward, he felt like a baby learning to walk. It was hard and new to him. Before too long, he made it to the sink of the bathroom area where he washed his hands and rubbed water over his face. The skin felt like flames where licking his hands, but cautious on the edge flames. Like the fire was worried, or stressed with a conflict.

After taking many deep inhales and exhales, he forced himself to confront those two girls. There were a few things that he needed to address with them. Taking a seat in the spot he was in earlier, his body shrunk into the comfort that it was holding him up. "Uhm, I am Mr. Woods, if you are for the trip, than please bring me those papers to me, please and thank you." This time, his façade held steadfast like a locked deadbolt on a door.

Waiting for those two to reply and do as he asked, his mind wandered back to Darien. Did she tell Annie? Who was the guy? Did she even like that guy? Was she raped, hurt, or worst? Choking on those questions, he retrieved his back pack and got it to his lap. Though he needed to get the clip board from there, he was also doing this to stop his mind from wandering to far. But, even the best distractions are faulty.

Emma had been asleep for twenty minutes when the loud speaker buzzed on yet again. It had been on and off all night, and, like every other time the speaker crackled to life, she woke up with a start, convinced that it was time to go. This time, it seemed she had been right. Through the static of the old speaker, she could hear her name and flight number being called. Standing, she stretched, sore from her long time in the plastic chair. The airport was celebrating its seventy-fifth annual celebration this year; Emma supposed that they had not bothered to install new chairs since their first one. A tad nervous, but determined nonetheless, she walked towards the gate. An unpleasant looking flight attendant stood behind a tiny desk, picking at her nails. Emma tapped the desk, trying to draw attention to herself. “My name’s Emma. I’m the unaccompanied minor.” The flight attendant looked up, sighing as if she had not slept in days. Seeing the dark circles under her eyes, Emma rethought her first assumption of the women. Maybe she was just tired, like Emma.

“I’ll need your paperwork, hun.” Emma passed her the papers, trying to look through the glass door into the hallway beyond, hoping for a glimpse of the interior of the plane she was going to be sitting in for the next five hours. “Just a second, sweetie, I need to get you a wristband.” As the attendant tightened the neon-green plastic bracelet around Emma’s wrist, Emma had a hard time keeping from scowling. She was okay with “hun”, but “sweetie” was too much. What did this woman think she was, five? The attendant dropped her pencil, and then leaned down to retrieve it. With a groan, she straightened back up and motioned for Emma to board the plane.

Emma was the first one on, and seats were assigned in a first come, first pick basis, so she chose the window seat in the back row. The engines would be noisy, but that only made it more likely that she would get the row to herself. As the plane filled with other passengers, Emma stared out of the window, trying to see the runway in the dark. The flight was an overnighter, leaving in the late in the evening and arriving early in the morning. Because the flight was during the week, instead of on a convenient weekend, the flight was populated mostly with businessmen, only a few families were on board. Emma was glad that it would be a quiet flight; she could just listen to her music.

***

The plane leveled off among clouds to the sounds seat belt signs pinging off and seats being reclined. Emma pulled her ipod from her backpack, earbuds on, and flipped it on with a smile. Finally. The seat next to her was empty, she could spend the entire flight alone with her music. Emma waited a few seconds for the music to start, but the screen stayed black. Her smile disappeared. Of all the times for this thing to run out of charge! Heaving a sigh of annoyance, she slumped in her seat, closing her eyes. “Uh, hey. Is this seat taken?” Emma looked up as some guy smiled hopefully at her. He was about her age, and must have been bored out of his mind sitting with his family. Emma took a little pity, but not much. She had reached her limit today.

“Does it look like there’s an invisible person sitting there?” He gave her a look similar to one a puppy would give if it had been kicked for no good reason. With yet another sigh, Emma rolled her eyes. “No, it’s not taken. Go ahead.”
He sat nervously, his smile plastered to his face. “I’m Kevin. Uh, what’s your name?” Emma thumbed the volume switch on her ipod, pretending she didn’t hear him. The earbuds were still in her ears and it looked like she was listening to music. Kevin gave a sigh of his own and gave up, taking out a book. Emma wished that she had been a little nicer; conversation might have staved off the boredom of the long flight. It was too late now. Emma would never apologize; she hated to admit that she had been wrong. She spent the rest of the flight staring out of the darkened window, straining to see anything of the world beyond. Eventually she slept.

***

The same tired looking flight attendant woke Emma when they arrived. The rest of the passengers had left, including the disappointed Kevin. Emma shrugged and followed the lady from the plane to the unaccompanied minor room, where she would have to spend the next few hours until whoever was organizing this thing arrived.
When Emma entered the room, she saw a bunch seven year-olds playing monopoly on a bright orange rug, a couple of older teens than herself sitting in a corner with gameboys, and a few toddlers throwing big plastic legos at each other. Oh joy. This is going to be fun.
She had spent three hours trying to teach three seven year-olds to play yatzee; being pelted by various blocks, legos, and erasers; and snacking on chocolate chip cookies. Not too terrible a way to spend a morning, better at least, than her morning would have been with her foster family. Cold cereal, lukewarm shower, and a boring bus ride to school were all that would have awaited Emma at “home.” Emma was almost sad when she was told that it was time to go. This was what family was supposed to feel like, warm, comfortable, and friendly. She hated to abandon it. If no one had been watching, Emma might have cried as she walked out of the room and pulled off her green unaccompanied minor wristband. It was time to go meet who she was going to be spending her next few months with.

The flight attendant pointed out the small group gathered in the waiting area and left, leaving Emma to approach by herself. This was no time to be scared. She had made it this far, hadn’t she? Walking up as boldly as she could, Emma held out the paperwork to the older man of the group. “I’m Emma. Are you Mr. Wood or Mr. Kyung?”

Kristen Danelle Steele
[Kr-ist-in Dan-el St-e-el]
No, I am not Bipolar...
╚═════════════════╝

Zayton, that one hunk of goodness, pulled away from their twenty minute kissing session. He was just that average blonde guy that loved wearing black and making out with random girls. It was perfectly fine with Kristen. But, before their lips even met, they had been using them in that very long conversation about their lives and what not. She felt like she could actually be herself around this guy.

"I really love you. You are that girl I have traveled the world for." Zayton was nineteen, but a sweet heart. Since his parents where big travelers, he almost did see every corner of the world. His hand squeezed her knee gently; full of love and compassion. His face grew distorted in true heels-over-head emotions. Wham!

As Kristen pulled her fist away from his broken face, she blew off steam. "Don't look at me like that, punk!" Her words where not foreign, they seemed to slip out every day. That little devil never would leave. Standing up abruptly, Kristen walked down the isle until she found an empty row of seats. Taking one, she curled up in a ball, turned her iPod on blasting in her ears, and cried with her face smashed against the window. It was so hard to try to act normal sometimes. Something always had to go wrong. Never once could she just make something work out beautifully.

A hand landed on her shoulder. It was probably just one of those ladies that serve food, give pillows, and that kind of stuff. So, Kristen stayed in her little ball. That hand ran down her spine softly, lulling, and passionately. Did he come back? Grasping her iPod and turning it off, she listened for a voice with intent. "Are you okay? I am sorry if I did something. Sometimes I have problems; Bipolar ones." What? That can't be true. Zayton seemed perfect. He commented on how he was great in school, got to travel everywhere, plays every sport know to man, and also plays the piano. Seriously, perfect.

Circling around in her seat, Kristen looked towards that blonde boy. "I think I am the one with those problems. Pills never help my flip of emotions. Sorry about your face." His arms flew around her and they just seemed to hug the whole rest of the plane ride. They fell asleep in each other's arms; constantly wishing that it could last forever.

                    ●●●●

Landing at the airport, she bid her farewells to Zayton. But, they had exchanged cell phone numbers, emails, myspaces, facebooks, and the rest of that good stuff. It was hard to leave, but necessary. She grabbed her stuff and started walking towards the meeting area. Walking around the whole place like a weirdo was awkward, but once she found it relief fell upon her.

There was a man and three girls. That was if she was counting right. Pulling out those papers that said she had to show to the adults that where there, she looked them over once. Going up the man, she knew he would be Mr. Woods. The other name of the other adult man was more Japanese or Chinese. So, she used her mind a little. "I am Kristen. Here are the papers." Quickly she handed him them, and then she got out of the way of the other girls.

Moving towards a chair near the people, but not in the way, she sat down and pulled out her cell phone. Zayton had already texted her. He was in a cab going to the hotel he was meeting his parents at. Texting him where she was, she listened to all the voices in the bustling world. It was so interesting to be in public places. People sometimes said funny things and what not.
