I would buy this, definitely. I also like the suggestion someone made about making an option for putting the ribbon in your profile as well. There are a lot of things I support that these ribbons denote, and I'd love to show that in a simple, effective, and yet charming way. That said, I also have a suggestion:
We could make the ribbon not only wearable, but something we could hang on the walls in the houses, or as "bumper" stickers for the car (only instead of just putting them on the bumper, you can put them on the hood, roof, doors, etc). Another suggestion: Fish tank back grounds, or decals for the outside of the tank. Or even as in-tank decorations. They could float around randomly like the fish do, only never die or expire or anything. Another thing that could be done is, when you buy one of the ribbons, it appears as a small graphic under your name in forums and the Friend's list, or anywhere else your username is seen.
When it comes to how to put these in the store: make an Evolving Item that people can buy (proceeds go to charity, more on this in a moment), and for the house, car, and fish tank, make those Gold Shop Items that can be bought individually as well as individual colors for the wearable ribbons available in one of the Gold Shops.
For the EI, they could do it one of two ways:
1.) Have the EI start out with all poses unlocked, and add a new color every week with the previous colors still available
OR
2.) Have the EI start out with all colors unlocked, and add a new pose every week with the previous poses still available
I think option 2 would be best, because then as the artist in charge of the Ribbon EI comes up with more pose ideas, those can be added on with each successive evolution.
I'll let you know if I can think up any other ideas for this, but with all that already said, I think the following is obvious, but the rules say I have to put it in, and so I shall. Besides, it reveals one of the colors I support!

I think that would be awesome! But they shouldn't all be cash shop items... sure they could donate the money, but not all of us can buy it.. So there should be some that only cost a small amount of gold. They could still have some in the cash shop, and those can have an extra pose or something special. And the proceeds from those could go to charity.

Maybe they could even find a way for the people using gaia cash, to buy a special edition ribbon, and the proceeds could go towards a cancer organization. Just a suggestion? =).

i sign!! but i'm the kind of person who would want to wear a few...so maybe make them also profile badges? like, you buy the ribbon, and it unlocks the ability to post it on your profile, so you don't have to pick just one to wear 3nodding

I'd wear one! I think it would be nice if it was a multi-pose/color item that you could wear as a pin or in your hair. Also they could make it like a mini evolving item (like the christmas ones) where you start off with 3 or 4 colors that you can wear (in each pose) then each week they could add new colors until all the colors are unlocked. That way they could donate a portion to a general cancer research program. Also they should be cheap like the wingding shirts were that way more people could afford to buy them and if they gave say half of the proceeds it would only be a quarter or so per item bought...but it would add up fast! :3

*Nods in agreement* Your idea is great, and I think Gaia really needs to start stirring up awareness of various issues going on in the world today. (I'm sick to death of their sponsorships with movie companies. They need to make at least one sponsorship with a non-profit organization, like WWF or Habitat for Humanity.) In any case, since it's not too likely that Gaia's going to strike up a deal with a non-profit, charitable organization, ribbons will be the closest we can get to showing awareness for illnesses and other problems. I'll sign!

I would definitely wear a cancer awareness ribbon. Anytime I see an item in the store that has the little pink ribbon on it saying that a portion of proceeds go to cancer research I always buy that over another brand. And I obviously would wear the rainbow pin. ;D
