The year is 2613 and the world is not as you know it...

XXXXXIt was nearly two hundred years ago when it all began, the great baby boom to out mother all baby booms before it. The human population had reached a sky high record that had been previously inconceivable, even to the greatest of generation before it and the world as it had been began to crumble beneath its own weight. Man kind had overpopulated the globe and dominated at the top of the food chain far above all other lesser creatures. It was the peak of the human race the pinnacle of greatness for man, they said, but every great tower must eventually fall...and fall it did. The planet could not support so many creatures at once and one by one they began to disappear. Species we had once used in abundance for needs such as food, clothing, and other comforts became scarce...endangered...even extinct but still the human race consumed. It ate and took and sucked in everything it could until there was nearly nothing left and before they knew it, they had swallowed their way into a depression like no other.

It was the worst that history had ever known. Basic necessities like food and water had to be rationed. The worth of money had plummeted and there had never been a greater divide between those who had too much and those who had too little. The world was a cold place then and natural selection picked off many in groups at a time through disease, malnutrition, and exposure but amongst all that despair and chaos....a child unlike any other was born...a child who would change the future of mankind forever. It was hard to say where exactly it all started, but there was no question that it grew beyond what anyone could have expected. Before anyone knew it, they were everywhere - at bus stops, in schools, at the supermarket, and perhaps even in your own home. Hidden like shadows in the darkness appearing just as plain as you or I but possessing power that could kill us all. Super humans.

They were the next step in human evolution, possessing abilities far beyond the natural capabilities of any normal human. Origins unknown, the earliest of these super humans ever documented possessed enhanced mental, physical, and sensory abilities that baffled even the greatest scientists of the time. They were a miracle..an anomaly...but most of all, they were different and like so many other unique and misunderstood beings before them, it was only a short time before the people of the world began to fear them as a threat. Those who possessed superhuman abilities were rounded up upon discovery and sent to special camps whee they were tested and "treated" for their conditions. It was in those camps that some of the earliest work was done on the research of the super human condition. Many began to pour money into finding out just what it was that made these super humans tick and while many might have come close, believing their nature to be due to environmental stressors or chemical exposure, none ever came so close as one Doctor Stanton...

It was called the X Gene. Discovered by a brilliant doctor named Henry James Stanton, this gene proved to be like nothing anyone in the scientific community had ever seen before...adaptive and resilient, this gene was found to lay dormant in what was assumed to be most of the world's population. So why was it that there were only a handful of super humans in comparison to others? Simple...the gene needed a trigger. The trigger to this gene was just as unique as the person themselves, requiring specific environmental factors and personal events to activate it. What exactly would trigger the activation of the gene, no one could tell. For some, the gene was triggered only days after birth, and for others it took a tragic loss or a great amount of pressure to be put on them before the gene would activate. The only thing that was certain was that once the gene was awakened, the person would come into abilities they never knew they had before - abilities that would best help them adapt in the world they found themselves in.

Doctor Stanton became known as the father of the X Gene due to his famous discovery and used the money and fame he received from the event to further new explorations in science and fund many much needed charities. He was a tycoon of good will and many looked up to him. He defended the super humans who were now more widely known as "X Gens" and got them released from their camps. He fought for their fair rights and implored the people to understand that the X Gens were just as human at heart as any average man. And it was his sensitivity to them that became his downfall. Perhaps it was because he drew too much attention to himself, or perhaps it was simply because he was too vocal about his views, but whatever the reason, on one empty spring night, Doctor Stanton was murdered in his estate and the only clue left behind was a name...

Today the recession of the past has long since disappeared and the world is still recovering from the tragic death of the beloved Doctor Stanton. Since his murder, the goodness and pristine condition of the world has been slowly deteriorating into crime, greed, vanity, and so on. With these new X Gen criminals on the loose, the human police hardly stand a chance...the only hope lies in a single wish the late Doctor Stanton left in his will.

"Become the heroes you were born to be..."

Naming a successor to his estate, he gave them only one instruction to begin this quest to save the world... "Find my daughter...she has everything you need to know." Now it is up to the heroes of today to combat the new evil that has arisen for the sake of the city...for the sake of humanity.

XXXXXXXX Needless to say, I am the goddess of this RP, and my orders will be obeyed. I don't really feel that I need to harp on this topic much considering that I don't usually have problems with people blatantly breaking my rules, but don't say you haven't been warned.

FOLLOW THE GAIA TERMS OF SERVICE! This means that cybering is strictly prohibited! I expect time-skips to be used appropriately. I also expect everyone participating in this rp to treat their fellow rp-ers with respect and adoration. We're all writers out looking for a little bit of entertainment so don't fool yourself into thinking you're better than anyone else just because you write more or are a grammar-Nazi. It's fine if you do or are, but please refrain from forcing your own opinions upon myself of others. It's not cool, bro.

I am trying to create a fun and free environment for those who enjoy getting creative, not for cyber-bullies and trolls. XXXXXXXXThe one thing I can't stress enough about characters is variety. An RP like this allows for a vast amount of different character types so please use that to your full advantage! Get creative. No character is a perfect character. Keep in mind that not everyone has to have a tragic back-story or be an orphan to make your character more lovable. This is primarily a Hero / action / romance genre rp and your characters should reflect that. Please read the requirements for the characters before you start filling out your profiles. You don't want to go through all the hard work of writing a size paragraph long bio only to find out that it doesn't match what I have already specified. I would like to keep the balance between male and female characters as evenly matched as possible so if you really have a gender preference but there aren't any more female/ male spots open in that category, shoot me a PM and I might consider adding another spot for you! Otherwise, the characters run on a first come first serve basis. If your powers or back story are too similar to another character's there is a likely chance I will ask you to change it. (Once again, I like variety people. Put those thinkin' caps on!) For now, I'm only allowing one character per person simply to allow those who wish to join a fair chance at grabbing the one they want. This may change depending on how enrollment goes. XXXXXXXX Since this is sometimes a topic of confusion, let me explain how these work in this RP. First, you should review the list of already accepted positions in the "Characters" post and check for any available, unassigned spots. This will be very important when it comes to my accepting of your reservation/profile. Keep in mind, this is a slot-based RP so spaces are limited. Before you send your profile, you will need to fill out a reservation located in the first block in the "Profiles" post. When finished, please submit them to me via PM titled "X GEN". Any reservations sent to me without the proper title will be promptly ignored. Afterwards, please wait for the go-ahead before you submit your profile in the same way, this time titled with the name of your character. Reservations will be held for two days without profiles before being removed from the character list. When you submit your profiles please wait, once again, for acceptance. After you have been accepted, I will add the link to your profiles to the respective picture in the characters post. (If you're confused, just click on the picture of my character and see for yourself/) Then and only then will you be accepted to post freely.

XXXXXXXX Participation in the story and Out of Character discussion board is vitally important to the plot of the story. This is an open-ended plot line after all and the direction of the story will solely depend on where you as the participants would like to take it. I understand that everyone has a life outside of this story and that you might not be able to post everyday. (The same goes for me as well.) However, I do expect you to do your best to keep up. If you get lost, there will be people to help you update yourself again, but if you get too far behind without posting, you are likely to be creatively removed from the plot. If something should come up (as often it does) that requires you to be away for an extended period of time or drop the story altogether, it is important that you INFORM ME of this change so that we are able to make necessary adjustments to keep the plot running smoothly.

XXXXXXXX "The X Generation" is considered a literate to advanced literate rp which means I would like to see a MINIMUM of three to four paragraphs per post. That's not a requirement, but I DO expect you to be able to keep up with what other people post. (I, for example, have a terrible habit of writing five to six paragraphs or more from time to time.) If you don't think you are capable of this, please do not bother sending a reservation. I would like to keep this story as reasonably literate as possible, though writers block is understandable and expected. I only ask that a habit not be made out of it. Otherwise, feel free to post whatever you like!

XXXXXXXX YES! Yes please! I highly encourage all of these things! Stories like this best survive on the suspense of drama so don't force your character to live a boring and reserved life. If they're shy, bring them out of their shell a bit. If they're bold, make them cause a stir! Cause a scandal. Having more than one love interest doesn't make your character a, forgive my language, wh*re. It makes a good story! So have fun with your characters, explore every nook of their personality! I like to consider this an "adult rp" which means I plan to explore adult concepts such as violence and sexuality and all that fun junk. If you don't think you're comfortable with that then DON'T send in a reservation. A moderate but respectful amount of profanity just makes things fun so if you're gonna freak out...leave. All characters in this rp should be 19 or older and act it too! If I get the feeling that you're some young 13 year old kiddo because you're throwing a temper tantrum about something ridiculous, yeah...I'm going to ask you to leave. It is possible to be respectful and be balls out fun at the same time. Do it.

The Heroes

The Prodigy - THE DARK ONE11

XXXBackground The Prodigy is the rising star of the X Gen community, seeming to appear over night and ride the comet straight to the fame galaxy. He is a well known face amongst the people, soaking up the media spotlight like a sponge and everyone seems to love him. He is charismatic, charming and seems to have superb control over his abilities. Perhaps this is why Doctor Stanton left him in charge? The Prodigy is famous both through his deeds as a hero and his status in the human community. How he gained this fame is up to you whether it be through his job (I.E. A model, a famous actor, high end business exec. etc.) or simply through family status (IE inherited a fortune). He was close with Doctor Stanton and the two shared a special sort of relationship whether the two were family or simply two kindred spirits. As such, it was he who Doctor Stanton requested gather and lead the new team of X Gen Heroes to put a stop to the chaos the city is falling into. The Prodigy will be familiar with all of the members of his team with perhaps an exception to The Novice and have a history with Doctor Stanton's daughter, The Experiment.

XXXBackground Unlike the other members of your team, you did not gain your abilities by some odd genetic mutation. Through hard work, science, and money you were able to craft yourself into the ultimate warrior with adept sensory skills, strength, stamina and so on. Your not an X Gen but you fight just as hard as they do to correct the wrongs that have been done in your past and to your beloved city. You have a fierce will and determination and will do what is necessary to get the job done. You'll make things right in this city or die trying. The Soldier is entirely human gone vigilante (like Batman). He has no X Gen abilities but has managed to enhance his natural senses, strength, stamina and so on through modern science, a strict training regiment and likely a vast sum of money. He was very familiar with Doctor Stanton who likely assisted in whatever means he could to support the common cause between them and has vowed to find the good doctor's killer at whatever the cost.

The Veteran - Cleaver Greene

He is the most experienced X Gen on the team as far as being a hero goes and many on the team look up to him as a mentor. He was once a companion of the late Doctor Stanton's and probably took his death the hardest amongst the new X Gen Team. He possesses some hostility towards The Prodigy for being the one Stanton requested to lead the team since he feels he and the doctor shared a longer history than anyone else but has agreed to join the team to avenge his friend and he wrong done to his beloved city.The Veteran is slightly older than the other members of the team. He shared a close friendship with Doctor Stanton and vows to avenge him despite the fact that he believes he should have been the one to lead the new X Gen Team.

You do your best not to show how messed up this event in your life has made you, but it is still hard to hide after all this time. The Experiment was an accident that was never meant to happen. No one could have foreseen the results of what happened to you due to the things you were put through whether by consent or not. Still young, you have so much to live for but find it difficult to look towards the future sometimes knowing what others see you as. Still, you do your best and try to help in every way you know how.

XXXBackground By far the most tragic of all the heroes, The Outcast was once a beloved figure amongst the people, known for their good deeds throughout the city, but one bad slip up caused her whole career to come crashing down before her eyes and now no body can see her in the same way again. Perhaps you had to make a tough call between saving one person over another or perhaps it was just an honest mistake in judgement that got an old team member killed, but whatever the case, there are very few people left in the city who trust you. You've lost the trust and respect of your loved ones, your city, and most importantly your team. You quit the team for some time, but after hearing about the death of Doctor Stanton, you decided to come out of retirement and beg to rejoin once more. It's rough water between your and your old team mates, especially The Veteran and The Prodigy but you are doing what you can to regain your honor and restore your reputation as a hero to the city.

XXXBackground The Novice is the newest member of the X Gen Team. Inexperienced, sloppy and new to battle she doesn't quite seem to fit in with the other more solid members of the team. Her powers are weak or still difficult to control and she is clumsy and unsteady in a fight. She still has a lot to learn, but there is a spark in her that wont be ignored. The Prodigy must have seen it because somehow she was accepted into the team. Because she is new to the team, she has yet to establish meaningful relationships to most of the other members.
XXXRequirements Character's powers must be weak or still difficult to control. She is new to the team and knows few of the other members.

The Villians

The Puppeteer - Captain Mantis

XXXBackground The Puppeteer is just as the name implies. He is the head honcho of all the villains and runs the show behind the curtains. He is responsible for the group of people who have tried so hard to destroy everything that Doctor Stanton had ever worked. Strong as he is intelligent, he is a pro at covering his tracks and never does the serious dirty work himself. Why would he when he has his own special team of super villains to call on whenever he really needs something done? Crime runs in his blood. He is the son of the once great mobster Caprice Argoni who was killed a few years back under un-investigated circumstances and has taken over the family business, inheriting her father's fortune which helps him in his nefarious deeds. (though no one can exactly prove it.) He knows the ins and outs of a successful job, how to tie up lose ends and most of all how to never get caught. A master of crime, he has learned much from his father and the world around him. He is wealthy and practically untouchable. The only thing he's ever left behind is his Alias which is nearly impossible to track and rumor has it, he is the one responsible for killing Doctor Stanton. He has big plans up his sleeve for this city and he wont stop until he gets what he wants.

Must be as wicked as wickedly possible Please Note: if you plan on playing this role, I expect you to have the UTMOST dedication to this thread! The head villain is a vital part to the plot and I cannot have you flaking out on me half way through the story. If you even vaguely think that you might have to drop the thread at some point, DO NOT apply for this role. I could not be more serious about this. Use the power wisely and don't press your luck.

The Psychopath -

XXXBackground Once committed to a mental institution, the Psychopath is a deranged soul trapped in the body of an unfortunate young woman. Chaos and misery are as sweet to her as candy and ice cream is to a child and there is nothing she loves more than to play with her food before devouring it. She is twisted in the strangest of ways and does the things she does for no other reason besides that she thinks its fun. She needed no persuasion to join The Puppeteer's cause...only a free pass to get away with whatever she pleases. You are insane...quite literally bat s**t crazy. Your allegiance lies with the villains merely because they let you do what you love doing most and don't harass you about it, else you'd be more than happy to slaughter them all where they stood as well. They've got you on a leash which is less than enjoyable for you, but you know you could try to yank it back whenever you like. You hate conformity, stereotypes and tons of other things and people around you never know what's going to make you snap next. You've created quite a reputation for yourself amongst the city already but things are about to reach a whole new level of madness.

XXXBackground Unlike the other villains who get their kicks off of being evil, the Justifier does what he does because he honestly believes it is right. He sees all the corruption and destruction in the world and knows it is just a matter of time before the human population destroys themselves. His only desire is to either get the rest of the public to see things from his point of view or speed the process along as much as he can. You're not a bad guy...at least you don't think you are. You simply see the human race for what it is - an arrogant and pompous species that has wreaked havoc and destruction since their creation. War, over population, the scarceness of resources, the endangerment of precious animal species, the invention of the atomic bomb, all of these are on the heads of man and all you want is for the madness to end.

Perhaps it was a failure to save someone you cared for deeply or the realization that your heroic idol was not exactly who they made themselves out to be. Whatever the reason, you've gone dark side and decided to start using your abilities to suit your own needs. You joined the anti-hero team for the simple desire to stick it to your old team mates and show them the life they could be living.

XXXBackground It is said the Monster was once a brilliant man with one of the greatest minds of this century. He was a scientist and researcher until one of his experiments went horribly awry turning him into what he is today. It was tragic and horrific accident that cost him everything and the transformation made it impossible to re-converge into society. Persecution, closed-mindedness and misunderstanding followed him wherever he went, causing him to retreat and live in solitude for quite some time, away from the harsh eyes of the world, alone where he could be unjudged and at peace...but his solitude only lasted for so long before he longed for companionship. However he knew, because of his accident, no one would ever see him as the good man he once was ever again, so he did the only thing he knew to and left his past behind him. He crafted a new name for himself, one of the monstrous evil that the world expected at the sight of him. If he was so bad at being good...maybe he'd be great at being bad! Unloved and unwanted he became a villain to exact his revenge on all of those who cast him out and shunned him.

Character is highly intelligent but misunderstood. Angry and alone, his primary goal is initially to seek revenge against the world for wrongly persecuting him for his differences.

XXXBackground No one really knows where this Forgotten Child originally came from. It seems to be a secret she's keen on keeping until the time is right. The only thing anyone knows for sure at this moment is that she is a very angry and disturbed creature, dangerous to herself and to those around her. The product of a broken childhood, her mind is twisted and her emotions are volatile. She will stop at nothing to get revenge on those who have betrayed her and will use whatever means necessary to reach her goal.

XXXBackground The Informer's job is exactly as the title implies. They know this city like the back of their hand. Born and raised within its limits, nothing happens here that they don't know about and it his his/her job to make sure the public stays well informed. As such, they are the lead reporter for a popular news paper or station. They lead a double life in order to protect their loved ones from those who may wish them harm. XXXBackground The Not So Retired Criminal's name is one that is well known amongst the city for various crimes anywhere from small time vandalism to big bank heists. His reputation precedes him as a master thief who has miraculously escaped every capture to date. But after one particular job nearly a year ago, he fell off the map and wasn't heard from again. The police assumed him to be dead but anonymous sources claimed he was very much alive and merely enjoying retirement. However, recent personal circumstances have encouraged him to come out of retirement and put his abilities to good use once more. Now the only matter he has to deal with is staying out of the X Gen heroes and villain teams' radars.
XXXRequirements Character must have a criminal history. His allegiance lies with no one but himself initially but his mind is subject to change as the story continues.

XXXBackground The Anti-conformist is just a regular fellow just like you and me...except for the fact that they have super powers. Oh yeah? Did they forget to mention that? Don't worry. The Anti-conformist doesn't really get a long with people very much. Perhaps that's why he has refused the offers that both the heroes and villains have offered them. They prefer to stay out of the fray and refuse to take sides initially despite the fact that they would be a valuable asset to either team. Why be bothered with everyone else's problems, right?
XXXRequirements Character must be highly reluctant about the idea of taking either side of the battle between heroes and villains. They don't want anything to do with the fight and would rather just keep to themselves.

||EVENTS|| Charity Ball Tonight!

||SETTING|| We begin in the city of New Rapture, the city of heroes and dreams. But, where there are dreams, there are those who live to break them and tonight is no exception. Our story begins as the sun sets. A charity ball is being held tonight at the late Doctor Stanton's estate and heroes, villains, and every one in between is gathered to witness the first ever unveiling of what is meant to be New Raptures team of X-Gen heroes! Though this is meant to be a shinning moment for the heroes, evil never sleeps and villains may be likely to do what they can to destroy their moment of fame. Heroes and Villains - For the most part, your team has already been assembled, though your relation to one another will vary according to past experiences with your team mates. New team mates will obviously not know everyone on the team, but older, more experienced heroes will likely know at least one or two of their team mates. Everyone is dressed normally at the start of the party to gain surveillance or otherwise. Villains should be using this time to gather intell. on the new heroes. Heroes should be using this time to boost the morale of the people of the city. It's a big night so stay on your toes!
