gaia_angelleft gaia_kittenstar Reporting Inappropriate Ads on Gaia Mini-FAQ gaia_kittenstar gaia_angelright
How can I report an inappropriate ad?
Great question! All you need to do to report an inappropriate ad you see on Gaia is to take a screenshot of the ad, and send it in an email to
reportads@gaiaonline.com. Once the team that handles advertisements on Gaia gets your email, they will contact the ad server company and get the content removed! This email method also ensures the people that need to see the inapp
Can you tell me how to take a screenshot - I don't know how to do that?!?
Happy to help! Getting a screenshot is super easy! The following information should help you out:
On a PC
Make sure the ad you want to take a screenshot of is visible on your screen. If so, then do the following:
1) Click the Print Screen button. (This button is located in different places. On many computers you’ll find it in the upper right corner.)
2) Open Microsoft Paint. To do this, take the following steps:
a) Select Start
b) Select "All Programs"
c) Select "Accessories"
d) Select "Paint"
3) Click anywhere on the white part of the Paint screen.
4) In the Edit menu at the top of your screen, select Paste. This will paste the image of the screen you captured when you clicked the "Print Screen" button.
5) In the Paint tool options, select "Save As" and then select a file type. PNG and JPG work well as image types for screenshots.
6) Type in a file name for your image, and choose a location on your hard drive to save to — many people choose the Desktop — and click Save.
7) Once you've saved the image, you can then attach it in an email to
reportads@gaiaonline.com along with the following information in the body of the ad:
* Date and time ad was seen
* Reason it is inappropriate for Gaia.
On a MAC
Make sure the ad you want to take a screenshot of is visible on your screen. If so, then do the following:
1) Simultaneously hold down the three keys: Command Shift and 4.
2) Press the space bar. A camera icon will appear.
3) Tap the computer's touch-pad to take the picture. Your screenshot image should then appear on your desktop as a file named Picture 1. You can always rename it later if you want!
4) Once you've saved the image, you can then attach it in an email to
reportads@gaiaonline.com along with the following information in the body of the ad:
* Date and time ad was seen
* Reason it is inappropriate for Gaia.
Why do you allow inappropriate ads on Gaia anyway?!?
Great question! Here are some reasons why an ad that is not appropriate for Gaia might show up on our site:
1) Gaia does not deal with advertisers directly. Gaia uses agencies that advertise on Gaia's pages.
2) The ads don't go through Gaia, but are downloaded directly to your computer from the ad agency, preventing Gaia from viewing the ads on your computer.
3) Ad agencies themselves sell thousands of different ads at any given moment, and do not screen them either. In fact, they, too, work with ad sales agencies, and usually serve ads from other companies.
4) The ad agencies determine which ad to show on each page according to:
a. Other content on the webpage.
b. Geographic characteristics (different campaigns for different geographic regions) - which is why people in Gaia's offices do not see the ads that are shown in the east coast of the US, or in other places in the world.
c. The surfing pattern that the computer is used for,
including other websites (unless cookies are disabled or are regularly erased). This means that if you see adult ads, you may want to erase cookies from your computer, and find who has been surfing adult websites using your computer. Cookies can track the different sites that your computer has visited, and many ad companies target their ads based on the type of sites that you visit.
This is sort of unrelated, but I know some great ads I'd like to see on Gaia. Who should I contact about this?
Another fantastic question! The ad team is happy to have any suggestions for ads for products you'd like to see on Gaia. You can also email them at
reportads@gaiaonline.com and let them know! No guarantees we can get the ads, but your feedback is always welcome!
