Character Profiles

      Character Name: Nyx York.
Place in the universe: Was-a-bad-guy-but-not-really-a-bad-guy. Trying to do the right thing and make amends for the wrongs she didn't know she was committing.
      Spiritually Aware: Yes.
      Powers: Good ol' fisticuffs.
      Rank: Lower B.
      Race: Human and Caucasian.
Personality: In private and around people she's comfortable with, Nyx is confident and feeds off everyone else's positive energy. In front of the general public she's quiet, never knows what to say and all of the energy and confidence she used to have sort of melts out of her and into the floor.
Bio/History: Nyx was born in America. In middle school Nyx transferred to Japan. Today she can't remember why it happened, just that that was when she'd gotten into trouble first. Initially she'd thought haha, very funny, nice joke, until she realized all of the people with empty eyes and strange bugs weren't things normal people could see. The first person to recognize Nyx's gifts and potential was a local medium named Sanada Eiji.

Three years later after being Eiji's apprentice she'd been arrested by the "bad" guys and Eiji was charged with being, well, a really evil a*****e. Now she's serving her sentence as part of a new fancy Tantei in America rather than in a jail cell. Japan was nice while she was there. Kind of.

Appearance: Nyx, contrary to the name, had blond hair that's kinda wavy to her shoulders and like whoa green eyes. She's below average height, not nearly as short as one of the original Tantei team members but still tends to stand below her same gendered peers in a crowd. That, with a bit of a button nose, give her a bit of a push-over look. Underneath her baggy clothes she's got a good set of muscles on her, the more feminine type that sit beneath her skin instead of boldly standing against it. Not that many see it. Again, baggy clothes. Aside from the fact that they're comfortable wearing she's totally uncomfortable in anything that hugs. Sometimes she can still be fashionable about it.

      Character Name: Aki.
Place in the universe: Trying to get on the good feelings of the winning side.
      Spiritually Aware: Yes.
Powers: Bow and arrow. He creates it out of his own spirit energy. Out of the group he is definitely the one who has the farthest range.
      Rank: Upper C.
      Race: Demon.
Personality: Survival of the fittest. A lot nicer in comparison to how some demons can be. Sighs a lot.
Bio/History: Again, survival of the fittest. Koenma is the top guy in charge and pretty popular, if he does good work for him it'll only spell good fortune in the long run. Plus, you know, it kind of helps to wipe a dirty slate clean.
Appearance: Of all hair colors a demon could possibly have, Aki is a brunette. He's got grey-blue eyes and tends to fold his arms and sigh a lot while thinking. Since he was born in Makai he used to go with the robey-Greek-but-more-Japanese type of clothing and has recently upgraded to more Chinese-style battle outfit, which can come in all sorts of colors. He's wears a charm bracelet to help him concentrate his arrows, though he doesn't really need it. He's like, really tall.

      Rank: Upper C
Personality: Confident . Reckless . Caring . Demanding
Kristan is an out-going, take-charge kind of girl. She is confident (often overly so) and sometimes head-strong. While she has no particular love of confrontation, Krista has no qualms about butting heads with others. Kristan is a good leader but can sometimes be over-controlling. Krista cares genuinely for those around her.
Bio/History: Born to american parents, Krista has lived her whole life in the US. She came into her spiritual awareness and powers around the age of six when she began to hear voices in the basement of her family's recently moved-in house. Her parents (a dentist and biologist), did not believe her when Krista told them that she could see figures moving about when she went downstairs. Because they did not harm her, however, Krista did not press the issue too hard.
At age 12, Krista came across the mention of spirits and apparitions in a book she was reading. Immediately, she knew that they were what she had been seeing for the past six years.
Entranced by the idea of the other side, Krista began to try to communicate with the figures in her house. It took some times, but eventually she was able to make contact with the spirits that floated around in her home. It was they who taught her to refine her awareness and cultivate her shockwave powers.

      Character Name: Kyoko Aranai
Place in the universe: An enigmatic snake demon who, after causing a stir of trouble in Japan with the original Tantei, has been sent to America to make amends.
      Spiritually Aware: Yes
      Race: Demon (snake)

Kyoko is manipulative, cunning, and ruthless. She uses any means she has to get ahead. She enjoys positions of power and loves bending men to her will. She is flirtatious and sultry, both as a means to get her way and because she finds it amusing. Despite all this, Kyoko is very loyal to a few chosen people and protects them with her life.
Bio/History: Kyoko was born and raised in Makai. Originally a low-class demon snake, Kyoko was taken in by one of Mukuro's general's sons as a pet. Over time, Kyoko was able to absorb power from her guardian, enough so that she could transform into a human body.
After Kyoko revealed human form to her owner, he began to train her in several types of combat, teaching her how to hone and control her powers, which, in nature, took after his own. Soon, Kyoko began to work alongside her owner, carrying out various tasks for Lord Mukoro.
It was during one of these tasks in the human world, after Kyoko had been seriously injured, that she was caught by a local newbie priestess. The priestess, sensing the young woman's demonic energy, attempted a banishment to rid her land of the demon. This banishment was preformed incorrectly, however, and ended up fusing Kyoko into a passing human girl.

      Character Name: Kira Takashi
Place in the universe: A previously normal girl who had the luck of getting mixed up with demons, spirits, and super powers.

Powers: Creates weapons and shields from a mixture of light particles and spirit energy. Powers grow stronger during the day.

Kira is a hard worker and tries her best most of the time, although she also enjoys time to kick back and relax, especially at beaches.
Bio/History: Until recently, Kira had been a normal highschool student. This all changed one evening on her way home from school however, when Kira's shortcut led her to the grounds of an old shrine. Thanks to a botched banishment aimed at a certain snake demoness, Thanks to the messed-up ritual, Kira and Kyoko's souls, and bodies were fused into a single being. Although they both kept their distinct personalities, Kira and Kyoko were forced to reside in the same vessel for over a year before Koenma found a solution to their problem.
Now, even as Kyoko travels to America and Kira remains in Japan, the two young women seem to share some sort of mental and emotional bond. That is to say that Kira and Kyoko are capable of feeling eachother's emotions and dominating thoughts.
Kira remains friends of the original Tantei, although, with the absence of Kyoko, she is no longer under their watch.

"You understand now, don't you?" Koenma's pacified bobbled as he spoke, leading over his fast mahogany desk with his small hands folded, pudgy fingers laced together. The toddler, Prince of Spirit World, spoke in perfect English to a young lady who stood in his office across from him."The importance of this mission? Not only will it be the true trailrun for your teamwork, it will also send a message to the demons in Makai who are thinking about attempting crossing over without a license. We need to make them understand that, although new, America's Detectives are not a force to be taken lightly. I expect this mission will go exceptionally well?"

"Well of course," the girl scoffed, a cocky grin on her freckkled face. "I've been trained haven't I? Don't get your diaper in a bunch, Princey. We'll send those demons and their rag-tag circus running back to their world."

"I hope you're right," Koenma said, his tone suggesting that he knew exactly the opposite."I hope you're right."

            --

That had been exactly thirty seven minutes ago. Now, in the present time, Kristan and her assigned team-- an odd group of people they were-- stood silently at the gates of a rural fairground.

They had been transported there by Kristan's assigned "assistant," who went only by the name of Azami. She had waved them off with a smile and a wink, and a joke of having a souvenir of somesort brought back for her. Krista wasn't entirely sure she trusted the girl, but her boss, at least, seemed to know Azami's story.

The portal that Azami had provided them with (tinted a bright mix of violent purples) had sent the two humans and two demons crashing down into a nearby cornfield, about a quarter of a mile hike away from their target destination.

The trudge had been long and awkward. Although the fairgrounds were never out of sight, Kristan had found herself wishing to arrive sooner, just to escape the pressing silence of her so-called "team".

Finally, after the group popped out of the cornfield and arrived at the entrance tot he fenced-off carnival, Kistan let out an audible sigh of relief. "Oh, hang on" she said, digging into her bag, "I have our tickets here somewhere."

            --
As if the mess with that human girl hadn't been enough, Kyoko had now found herself, not only in the human world, but on a completely different continent, running around an helping to pick up after the prince's, Koenma's mess.

Bitter, and slightly enraged. That was all Kyoko could describe her feelings as. But she had learned to, if anything, bury his distaste of others for the sake of teamwork and a common goal. Sometimes, even, she had been pleasently surprised at the results of such actions.

But that had been then and this was now; these were a totally different group of people in a totally different world. And thought the enemies were the same, Kyoko was doubtful of these new fighters' abilities. She would give them a chance-- a small one-- to prove themselves in her eyes, but trusting her life to them was something that she did not plan on doing.

"This place wreaks of Makai," Kyoko muttered, coming up to a stop behind their brown-haired leader. "They may have covered up their energy, but they certainty didn't bother to cover up their scent. "

Dapper Dabbler

Nyx was already beginning to grow agitated. They were on their first mission, finally, yet it was so- awkward. It was as if she'd never met the people around before.

Not that they'd done a lot of talking when they'd initially met. Nyx couldn't shake the idea that everyone was silently judging her and waiting for her to jump around and proclaim, surprise! I was evil all along, ahahaha! Not like she was doing anything to help dissipate the image. She hadn't said anything beyond a few words of introduction to the whole lot of them.

Their leader was kind of, well, way too loud. Not volume wise. Around people with that kind of boisterous personality Nyx flip-flopped between being terrified and feeling plain overwhelmed. The blond woman was really pretty but Nyx got the idea that if helping them wasn't for her benefit she'd sooner eat them for lunch. The guy was quiet and moody, sure, but at least Nyx knew what was probably on his mind and he didn't seem as if he'd get up in your face at any given second.

Well. Maybe there was something else... more than that, it was outright weird to be working alongside the sort of people she'd been fighting against. They'd been the bad guys. It was like fighting WWII and learning that the Nazis had been good all along.

              ...

This silence was going to kill her.

The only guy in their group sighed. Finally the cornfield they were in ended and they came to a collective stop behind their leader. Aki folded his arms, giving the carnival the sort of vacant, annoyed stare somebody would give to a raving child when they'd been woken up too early.

"They certainly didn't," he murmured in agreement. Neither did the humans. Humans stank. There was too much estrogen. He had a headache. b***h, b***h, b***h, complain. "What are we even supposed to be doing here anyway? Fighting clowns?"

The blond one bounced on her heels a little in response, biting down on her lips. He gave her a long look until she glanced at him. Her shoulders scrunched up, eyes cutting between him and the fairgrounds. "I'm just... wondering if there will be popcorn," she admitted almost in a whisper.

Three Kings, how was he supposed to fight alongside somebody so... feeble? "You probably don't want to eat anything they're selling," he advised and ruffled the top of her head, garnering a startled squeak. Ah, she was cute. Probably going to die. If they all died, she would be the first. He smiled fondly and patted her head.

"Oh, here they are!" Krista lifted out four three-day passes from her leather satchel and proceeded to pass them around the group. "Azami gave me these before we left, compliments of Prince Koenma." She grinned as she slipped Aki the last of the tickets. "Ready to go, everyone?

"I think we should stick together, though. This is our first mission and everything. I'd just have a better feeling if we stayed as a group. It'll look less suspicious, too." She grinned down at the blonde American and, with a wink and a grin, said,
"We can even check out their games if you want."

The group, each keeping mainly to their own thoughts for the time-being, approached the entrance kiosk. One by one they filed through into the fairgrounds as, in the distance, the sun turned a golden-orange and began to sink lower and lower into the horizon.

One by one they handed their paper tickets to the greeter at the enterence, a pretty young girl dressed in a black and red ensamble with a frilly skirt. "Enjoy your time at our Carnival! And don't forget to check out the big show at 10 tonight! Admittance is included in three-day passes."

"Thanks," Krista muttered, her eyebrows raised slightly. "Yeah, we will."

Once inside the carnival Kyoko, who had been forced into a less attention-getting outfit (a pair of tight jeans and an off-the-shoulder long-sleeve shirt), huffed. "Well then, fearless leader?" She asked dryly, "Where to we go now?"

Krista shot her a look that the snake demon completely ignored. "I was thinking," Krista said, not bothering to hide the annoyance in her voice, "That we should scope the place out. Let's check out the different tents, see if we can find anything... off about this carnival. The detective checked her watch with a slight perk of her bottom lip. "We've got about three and a half hours until this 'show' that the girl mentioned. Let's poke around until then."

Dapper Dabbler

Aki and Nyx turned their tickets over in their hands. Nyx shrank into the comfort of her baggy hoodie when Krista addressed her, ticket crinkling as her fingers tightened on it. Aki turned his over in his hands, readjusted his cap that hid his horn, and sighed. "Even if we weren't brand new it would be a bad idea to split up," Aki remarked in mild irritation. Hadn't she ever watched human horror movies? Normally he was a fairly nice guy but it wasn't sitting well with him that he was having to take orders from someone who was A) a LOT younger than him and B) way less experienced. Koenma and his pet projects.

Inside, the carnival looked like... um, a carnival. Nyx looked around, searching for anything off, but really the whole place was off- that was the point of it. Although she couldn't smell the demons like the others could (assuming they literally meant smelling and not spiritually sensing) the energy in the place was a little off, not totally human. However there wasn't a particular location she could point to and say it was coming from there, the whole place had traces of it, like when a person wearing perfume or cologne walked past and left a trail of it hanging behind them.

A few seconds after Kristan made her decision about what they should do, Aki, who had been looking around without seeming to pay attention to what Kristan had been saying, stopped. "Ah. Would you look at that? A game." His eyes settled on the blond American girl whom, though Aki was pretty sure she was going to kick it early on and her blood would be all over the prince's hands, he wanted to see holding some obnoxiously huge stuffed toy in baggy hoodie covered arms. "Come on."

The game he'd noticed was one of those water gun ones. Upon stepping up he realized he had no human money so after pulling out his jean pockets and narrowing his eyes, Nyx handed him a $5 bill and he accepted it graciously.

Even though these games were meant to cheat people, Aki was an archer and he managed to get two prizes. The first thing he got a big bag of kettle corn popcorn, which he held out to the snake demonness in a request to be sure it wasn't, yknow, poisoned before everybody ate it, and the next prize was a giant stuffed purple teddy bear with a big red polkadot bowtie that he handed to Nyx, and she held the head below her chin and it was tall enough that its feet went to her knees. There were also giant green stuffed snakes and Aki was very tempted to get one for the demonness just for the sake of mocking her. Alas, he had no money and he didn't want to ask the blond human for more.

Ironically or thankfully, holding the teddy bear made Nyx feel a lot better. It also made her feel like she was five and she wouldn't admit that it was helping her nerves. Say what you will, squeezing something soft and warm and squishy when feeling bad does wonders. The teddy bear, despite being so fragile that a tugging on it too hard would tear it open, felt like a shield.

"We're already blending in," Aki held his hands up and grinned. "They'll never catch onto us now. Not with the teddy bear."

As the group mulled through the stands, deciding on which game to try out first, back in Spirit World, Koenma (who had recently upgraded his viewing stytem from VCR to DVD and digital recording) was throwing a fit.

"KRISTAN!" he shouted, banging tiny fists on a massive desk "Who told you to play demonic carnival games?! You're supposed to be investigating! Not goofing off! " Koenma settled back into his leather chair, huffing slightly as on-screen Aki took the water pistol from the stall vendor. "Honestly, who ever heard of a demon winning teddy bears."

Kyoko's eyebrow perched as Aki, after hitting the targets several times in a row, handed her a bag of caramel popcorn. After a brief hesitation, Kyoko reached out and took it, her tonge flicking between her lips as she examined the food. It wasn't the poison she was worried about (she was largely immune to most of the commonly used ones in both human and demon word, anyways), but the fact that her new teammate seemed to expect her to both a) care whether he was poisoned or not and b) be willing to put this strange, sweet-smelling "snack" in her mouth. Carefully, Kyoko tossed the bag over her shoulder.

"Let's check out one of the tents," Krista said quickly, watching as Aki's prize and snack rolled away though the crowd. "See if we can find... well, anything, really." Krista headed off, looking over her shoulder once to make sure the others were behind her, towards the nearest tent labeled: "The Freak Show"

Dapper Dabbler

"Well you're welcome, that's a dollar two-fifty," Aki set his hands on his hips and gave Kyoko a look, eyebrow arched. "Not even trying it out. That's just a waste."

It did, if anything, simply confirm for him that Kyoko was a b***h. Most demonness were a little stand off-ish, it was kind of in the description for any demon to be an a*****e in some aspect. Makai didn't run on niceness, most of the time. Still, there was the standard demonness being the usual amount of rowdy and scoffing and then there were the ones that were bitches. Lucky him finding one in this new group.

Which made it... some green eared human girl, another one that looked like she might get lost in the folds of her own hoodie, and a b***h. Boy what a group they made.

Nyx was a little sad to see the popcorn go. She hadn't had kettle corn in forever. Nothing to be done about it now, she guessed, and the group started to head off into the "Freak Show" tent.

Apprehension crawled all the way up into her gut. Whenever she'd seen shows detailing the horror history had to offer about how these people could be treated, she'd always wanted to think that she'd be one of the sorts that would extend some kind of helping hand. Yet as they approached the tent she found herself emotionally caving in on herself to hide farther away the closer they came to the entrance.

It was immediately obvious to Aki that the people standing around in the cages were demons. There were some who had scales instead of skin, pretty feminine animalistic features that many people gawked at and wondered aloud to each other if they were real or incredibly well done prosthetics. The second thing that was immediately obvious was how all of the freaks' attention was focusing on them. As the group walked farther in their heads all turned to them in a wave, leering.

This wasn't some trick to freak out customers. Aki and Nyx could both tell that they knew who they were, it was in their eyes. A woman who had no hair and looked like a snake stuck her forked tongue into the air, taking sips of smell and chuckling in the back of her throat. "Never mind taking them by surprise then," Aki muttered.

"I don't trust anything that's been pepared in a vat," Kyoko said shortly, barely looking up at Aki as she passed him, following Kristan into the Freak Show tent.

Pulling back the canvas flap of the tent the smelled slightly of straw and musk, Kyoko entered, disappearing from Aki's and Nyx's view and reappearing on the inside of the carnival's attraction.

As soon as she stepped inside, the scent of lower-class demons assaulted Kyoko's nostrils, along with a prickling of demon energy that could be felt lingering in the air.

Even Kristan, as fresh as she was, seemed to be feeling the effects of so many demons crowded together in one place, as the hair on the back of her neck rose, sending chills down the girl's spine.

As Nyx and Aki entered, the freaks' attentions all turned to settle on the group. Beside her, Kristan heard Aki speak.

Kyoko's fists were clenched as she surveyed the assortment of demons, all whose eyes were on the group in the center. The human fair-goers seemed not to notice the suddenly tense atmosphere inside the tent and continued to oggle happily and debate types of special effects used to create such "freaks".

"They're not doing anything..." Krista frowned, as she continued to walk further and further into the tent. Why not? Were the demons waiting to spring a trap of some sort?

Aki looked through the assortment of "freaks" while they walked, drew his hands into his pockets and sighed. Then his eyes carefully surveyed the room, taking in the details, other senses trying to make note of any strange alterations of the natural flow of energy in the room. Following a pregnant pause where nobody else probably didn't have an answer, he replied, "I think they're waiting." He focused on the demons again. "Not even surprised," he added quietly, in what he hoped was just in earshot of his allies. Then again, he'd heard humans had bad hearing.

That unnerved him a lot. The demons, not the human hearing. He'd assumed- as the rest of them likely had- that they'd gotten the drop on them and had the advantage of being unknown on their side. "Hells," Aki scowled, a growl cutting through from the bottom of his throat. How were they supposed to find something if they'd probably already hidden all of their s**t?

Nyx blinked around the room, fine lips pressed together and fingers pressed into the fluff of her new teddy bear. A pulled-cord of tension had stretched from her gut up to her neck and she turned her head slowly, heart picking up pace. Each time she took a breath she felt like something was pushing down on her ribs and it made it hard to breathe.

Blood lust. It grew in the air, like a catch of smoldering embers beginning to lap up on kindle and wood. She could taste it and smell it coming off of the demons. They didn't see them so much as a threat as they did a snack, apparently. Nyx bit her bottom lip and shifted the bear so she was hugging him under the arms rather than having her hands settled on his chest. Gods, she didn't want to wait around for something to happen, she wanted to fight now.

"...We can still look around even if they know we're here. Can't we?"
              Nyx asked quietly.

"I don't see why not," Kristan muttered, looking around at the leering circus crew. It was obvious that the workers in the tent were aware of the specially-powered group that had just entered their midst. What was not clear, however, was why they were staying their hand at battle. Perhaps they feared driving off customers? Did demons even care about such things?

With a careful glance at her surroundings, Kristan stepped up to one of the cages that contained a freak. Yellow, cat-like eyes emerged from the rear of the bedded enclosure as a furry-faced young woman appeared, her gaze locking on the new detective with eagerness.

"And what might you be doing here, young miss?" The cat-woman questioned, a sly smile placed on soft pink lips. "Surely you can't be looking for just passive entertainment?"

Kristan's lips pursed as the woman hinted to the group's true purpose. There was no point in lying-- the Circus seemed to know of their existance now. Still, with so many normal humans around, Krista was reluctant to divulge too much in case of passerbys catching a wave of their conversation.

"We're just waiting for the show," Krista answered innocently, "There's nothing wrong with that, is there?"

Kyoko, meanwhile, had retreated to the far end of the Freakshow Tent. She had settled herself in a corner, content to stare right back at the demons that surrounded her. Although she did not have a terribly high spiritual sensitivity, Kyoko could tell that the majority of people in this tent were not of the Human World. Their scent, although masked and diluted by the time spent among humans, gave them away.

Kyoko found it almost refreshing to be in the company of so many demons, despite the fact that they were technically on opposing sides. It had been too long since she had last seen Makai and inhaled its vile winds-- homesick, she had heard someone call it once. Not that Kyoko would ever admit to such a sentimental notion.

Nyx couldn't get herself to relax. Demons, from what she'd understood, were supposed to be steadily integrating into human society, so that they could all live together in peace. The demons would be normal too. If that were the case, why were they putting themselves in cages?

They could have been feeding off the fear and wonderment the humans made. Either way it didn't sit well with her at all- it felt like it took steps away from what they were trying to achieve rather than march towards it. When she looked away from the cages, the demonness of their group had moved away, off into a corner.

This was all wrong. All of Nyx's senses were telling her to run, and it didn't have anything to do with her amount of social fears going on. Some precarious balance had been tipped and she sensed the odds were no longer in their favor. She wasn't sure if entering the freak show tent had been the mistake they'd made or if it was the cold chill of isolation from the demonness that further splintered the group. Whatever it had been, something had changed. It'd gone bad.

In a normal situation Nyx would have turned around and run. She was confident enough in her own fighting ability that she had a safe bet she could get away. Unfortunately her life, within these moments, weren't hers to dictate anymore. Sanada-sensei wouldn't be there to give her a reassuring smile or a cup of hot green tea, to say it was fortunate she'd developed a strong sense of when to start a fight and when to avoid one. In all the time she'd known him he'd never treated her like she was a coward. Instead he'd trusted her instinct and would always smile, saying next time, next time.

Koenma-sama would not be as kind. No matter whether or not he was the "good" guy, she couldn't erase Sensei's words from her mind towards the child-prince. The same sort of patient mercy wouldn't be found in him. She couldn't imagine it. The image of Koenma was a baby had to be as deceptive as his apparent goodness. Nyx's lips and eye twitched. She was stuck. The best she could do was fend for herself once things went down, by then running away would seem like a tactical measure rather than mission abandonment.

Whatever sense of "team" Nyx had walked in here with cracked apart. Aki, for one, was not feeling nearly as conflicted. He surveyed the room with wary indifference, wondering how much this was going to change their tactical performance. The only other demon in the group's actions were not missed. A little sigh escaped him. Without a doubt he'd make it tonight, wasn't so sure about the rest of them. Still have to be careful. That Kyoko was making it clearer and clearer she'd use any of them as live bait if the situation suited her.

"Please do not pass beyond the points of the fairgrounds."

This happened right after they'd left the freak show tent. A frail-thin girl, wearing a very pretty short doll's dress and had heart shaped lipstick and even had a lace parasol that was all show and no function, had been standing directly outside of the exit. She had almost-glowing white hair that was put up into two big buns on either side of her head and her eyes were pink and nearly vacant. Both Aki and Nyx could tell she was a demon, despite her rose-scented perfume. The oddest part was the big piece of black spider jewelry on the back of her head.

One would think that would have been the end of it. It wasn't. The doll-like girl followed them throughout the carnival, watching them without so much as a change in expression. It freaked Nyx out so much she couldn't focus on anything besides watching her, afraid of what she might try to do with that parasol the second her back was turned, while Aki found it mildly eerie and pretended not to be bothered by paying attention to other things. Every so often she would say "don't touch that". At one point, Aki realized that the bizarre spider ornament she wore on the back of her head was breathing.

Three hours took forever to pass by. The marionette-esque girl half-followed and half-lead them to the tent where the show was apparently being held. Soon as the group passed through the tent flap she turned to the right and disappeared behind the stands without so much as a word.

"So what's your plan now, fearless leader? We going to sit back and be made dinner?" Aki inquired, crossing his arms. The whole past few hours felt like a total waste to him. (All of the prizes he could have won.)

"Please do not pass beyond the points of the fairgrounds."

Kyoko blinked, withdrawing slightly as the pink-eyed girl stepped forward, an unnervingly steady gaze fixed upon the snake demoness. This girl was... unnerving. Kyoko's tongue darted between her lips as she inhaled the girl's flowery scent. There was no trace of the Makai winds on her, and yet this girl was too other-worldly to be a mere human. Kyoko frowned.

Her first instinct was to ignore the girl. After all, who was this little doll-b***h to tell her where she could and could not go? But, no. There would be trouble soon enough, there was no use in starting the fight early over a simple territory issue. Despite the narrowing of her eyes, Kyoko nodded, conceding to the young woman's instructions.
            -

Kristan's eyes narrowed at the white-haired young woman. She could not tell whether this girl was a demon or an elaborately-costumed human, but she could definitely see that there was something strange about this girl.

"Uh, 'scuse me?" Kristan raised an eyebrow.

            The girl simply repeated herself.

So, they were stuck there? Babysat to make sure that they did not try to leave? Conflict was inevitable then, Kristan decided. Whether they try to leave now or wait until the demons were ready to attack-- Kristan glanced nervously back at the oddly-assorted group of powered individuals-- she hoped to God that they could get their act together.

            ---

Three hours passed and Kristan was beginning to get seriously irked. The tall, doll-like figure that had been shadowing them nonstop. Not only was she following them, she was being very obvious and very disturbing about the whole ordeal. Already standing out from the crowd thanks to her decorated ensemble and strange features, this girl's blatant staring made her extremely hard to ignore.

The group was was half trailed, half herded into the largest center tent on the fairgrounds. Lit by several spotlights, it wasn't hard to miss. Music and people could be heard coming from inside the tent, the din getting louder and louder as Kristan and her new "team" were led in through the back.

Without a word, the doll-like figure who had been following the group around like a hungry kitten suddenly departed without a word, splitting off to go into the back of the tent where, Kristan assumed, performers went to prepare for the show.

"So what's your plan now, fearless leader?" Aki grunted from behind Kristan. "We going to sit back and be made dinner?"

"No," Kristan shot back. "I've got an idea." She turned back around to face her group and said in a low whisper, "Wait until the show starts. Then, when all the performers are busy, we'll go take a look around. Sound good?"

            Kyoko simply made a face.
