The Host

User ImageName: Seppa
Meaning: "Smith"
Race: Pard (Wingzelle)
Gift: Mage (Metal)
Gender: Female
Height: Big.
Eyes: Green

Offspring: Aatos, Lahja, Sirpa

About: Seppa was a no-nonsense pard, rough around the edges but no less caring for it. She worked for and was friends with a sorceress named Sabah, who housed an entire pride of pards. She became host to Ying Long after receiving his jewel from her hapless admirer, a winged pard named Albion. Though she fought at first, and resented Zhijian to her end, she eventually resigned herself to it - but not before giving in to Albion's affections. As a result, she laid three eggs before leaving her home for good.

Her children, one of whom carries the very same gift she did, have been raised in the pride, with full knowledge of just what happened to their mother.
Zhijian

Name: Zhijian
Meaning: "Firm in Spirit"
Race: God (Dragon King)
Gender: Male
Height: 6'5”
Eyes: Green

Additional Titles: King of Beasts, Lord of SwiftCoils, the Daggerjawed, Gilded-Mane.

Distinguishing features: Two pairs of antlers, pale mane and wings, green scales on his chest, some blue leftover from his host.

Clothing: Wide-legged pants, if anything.

About: Zhijian is a very steady, stable and dependable sort. His manners can sometimes be seen as lacking, but it’s not out of any intentional rudeness; he just sees some things as unneccessary, subscribing to a simpler, more straightforward set of ‘manners,’ sometimes animalistic in nature. He has virtually no concept of personal space, and consequently likes to get in very close and touch those he feels a bond with, possibly even attempt to groom them (he would also be perfectly happy in a sleep-pile).

He is loyal unto death to Harmodius, who is the absolute center of his world. Utterly devoted, he loves serving his Lord almost as much as he loves his Lord. He is never happier than when he is in His presence or fulfilling an order given by Him. Zhijian would do anything Harmodius asked of him, including betraying or even killing others he might consider friends, and would not question the order. If He wishes, it will be done.

His next loyalty lies with his fellow Dragon Kings, whom he views as packmates and brothers. He will side with them before all others except Harmodius. He will not, however, take orders from them; he will aid them of his own accord or if they ask it of him (so long as it doesn’t conflict with a command from Harmodius), but he will only take commands from his Lord. The Dragon Kings are his equals, his siblings, and he expects the same from them. He respects them and the Primordials above ‘lower’ gods.

The rest of the gods he is largely indifferent to, whether they’re older than him or not; most of them he will respect and of course speak to, and a few he may befriend, but he is of higher rank than they. They may be gods as well, but Zhijian is a favored child and does not forget. He will attempt to pull rank if the situation calls for it.

All others, from aoidei to human, he will take notice of and deal with as he wishes; some he may ignore, some he may indulge, some he may consider like to toys.

Zhijian is not overly concerned with the past - unless it’s required otherwise of him, he dwells very much in the present. He does not waste time reminiscing, and instead focuses on following orders and his own return to power. He is absolutely thrilled by his choice of host and the form it has given him. He considers this type of form to be a perfect blending of beast and man.

Powers:

Ivynian

Beast Affinity:
Zhijian is the fangbridle, and as mount to the crown, is attuned with every 'equine' in the old sense of the world. Any mount-creature will recognize Zhijian as lord, and will do for him one small favor per meeting with him, should he desire it. This communication, for purposes of ease of game play, should be considered like to telepathy...it doesn't require words.

Travel:
Though not as fast as a travel god, Zhijian can fly/run/swim, for brief bursts of exceptional speed. He can travel a space of 700 miles in an hour five times a day as a youth. It does tire him to do so, but not deathly so.

In addition, Zhijian can bestow limited duration blessings of speed on mounts and beasts of burden. Prayers to the dragon for protection of caravans, war horses, or retreating forces might find their needs answered by sudden fleetness and maneuverability.

Speed (2):
Zhijian’s natural movement and speed are faster then even that of a normal or even quick god. On a scale of 0-5, 0 being normal gods (still faster then mortals), Zhijian is a 2. Few are the gods or immortals that are faster then the fangbridle’s coils.
Opinions - Hosts/Others

Morgan: A little mouse of a mortal, beloved to my brother, but now she is Trickery's.
Toki: A properly respectful servant. I could certainly use one.
Opinions - Deities

Harmodius: My Lord and Master. heart Anything he asks of me, I will give.
Tian Yue: My brother Tien Lung, the only one of my siblings I have come to know again. He knows all the best places to scratch, and I have grown especially close to him in the absence of the others.
Illumin: Proud, but also suspicious - Light does not care for our Lord as Destruction, it would seem.
Gianfar: Knowledge. His library is very dusty. And boring.
Possessions

Gem Collection (from Harmodius), includes: paraiba tourmaline, rubellite tourmaline, diamond (2), emerald (3), ruby, star ruby, blue sapphire (4), opal, fire opal, mandarin garnet (2), yellow topaz, blue topaz, peridot, citrine (3), ametrine, tanzanite, jades (5), moonstone (3), amber (7).

Mirrored Bangles (from Harmodius), includes: earrings, tailbands, collar/necklace (heavy/dripping Egyptian style).

High-Quality Pelts (from Harmodius), includes: black bear (2), caribou, elk, river otter, tibetan lamb, winter-coat wolf, pearl gold fox, burgundy fox.

Pair of Katars (from Harmodius): Made from marbled emerald and amber, each with a blade 12" in length. [Material/decoration aside, this is very much what they look like.]
Servants

User ImageAshoka: Ashoka is a pard of the wingzelle variety, and is possessed of two rare gifts - prophecy, and the ability to take on a more human form. Once a member of the same pride as Seppa, she has followed Zhijian to the Pantheon as a servant of sorts. Eccentric and often irreverent, the prophet takes some getting used to; fortunately for her, enough of Seppa seems to remain in the dragon that he puts up with more from her than he would from most.

'Shoka sometimes bothers with clothes, sometimes not - after all, who really needs clothes when you've got fur? Still, being a sort attracted to bright colors and pretty things, she'll dress now and then. When in shifted form, she is 5'3" and slight of build.

Dragonriders
A small group from Pern who became stranded during Gehenna, later found and aided by Zhijian. They've now established New Weyr, about a two-day flight away the Pantheon. It doesn't look much like a traditional Weyr, as there's no need for shelter from Thread here, so why go through all the trouble? They've claimed a coastal mountain as their home, and have spent the last few years making it their own, building homes for human and dragon alike, and all other necessary structures.

They've had much to adapt to, as they come from a world without magic and relatively little technology, as well as no concept of gods or higher powers. Some have been slower to accept the changes than others, but have had little choice in the matter. They're currently looking for an alternative to Pern's firestone, though it's far from an immediate necessity. Other changes include that their Hatching Sands are heated by magic, and they're even accepting non-human (but still humanoid in form) Candidates, but thus far only humans have Impressed. Suspicions are that dragons can only Impress to humans, but only time will tell. Regardless, they need all the helping hands they can get, and aren't turning any away, whatever they look like.

((P.S. On the off chance that someone wants one to play, just hit me up!))

Original Group:

Talka and Gold Chenoweth: Once vain, haungty, and every inch a Queen, Chenoweth was brought low by her injury. Though she's since recovered, she's been humbled, and doesn't fly quite so well as she used to. She is more patient than she once was, and has gained a better appreciation for 'lesser' colors of dragons, having now spent a significant amount of time depending on them. Talka has not taken their situation quite so well as her dragon; while she may have her own Weyr now, there are only a handful of dragons in it - and not many workers! It is, in short, much more work than she would like.

User Image

S'al and Bronze Padrenth: As the only bronze in this new Weyr - in this whole world - Padrenth has finally come into his own. Tiny for a bronze, hardly bigger than a brown, he's spent his life until now trying to prove that he's better than other bronzes despite his size. Now, without competition and confrontation to distract him, he's redirected his efforts and attitude into being a leader. S'al has always been more laidback than his dragon, without the insecurities or ambition. He's a little less comfortable with their new situation, but is content to let Padrenth lead the way.

User Image

J'lah and Brown Likoth: Agreeable and adaptable, Likoth is a fairly large brown, only four feet shorter in length than Padrenth. He's been happy to lend his support to their new leaders in this trying time. Likoth often serves as a 'messenger' dragon now that they cannot go between, as he has greater stamina than the greens and blues, and the Weyrleader's dragon can't be spared for such tasks. J'lah is a hardworking man, but beneath the solid, dependable surface everyone sees is a man with ambition. With Chenoweth not the dragon she used to be, and only a small bronze for competition, Likoth would have a good chance at catching the queen - if J'lah could only convince him to fly her.

User Image

B'ram and Blue Nachith: B'ram and Nachith are practically human and dragon versions of each other, with quite the love for the ladies, although B'ram tends to be more steadfast in his affections; Nachith, on the other hand, bounces from crush to crush...although he doesn't have a very wide selection at the moment. Changeable affections aside, they found their serious side and grew up fast after Gehenna, but are finally getting back to their fun-loving ways.

User Image

Lyla and Blue Bayeth: Lyla is very much realist - with a healthy dose of pessimist! - who is always prepared for the worst to happen. Bayeth is a very tolerant dragon, who will patiently endure the proximity and contact of any person or dragon. He's quite a worrywort, however, who has a habit of vocalizing his serious concerns by baying; he'll also do this to warn of approaching storms. Because of the blue's tolerant nature and his rider's unforgiving realism, S'al has put them in charge of training the Weyrlings. Who better to make sure they understand the responsiblities and risks of being dragonriders?

User Image

O'ri and Blue Mazamath: At first glance, Mazamath and his rider might seem a mismatched pair. O'ri - who's a woman, don't let her shortened name fool you - is boundlessly energetic, while Mazamath is all about conserving his energy for just the right moment...whatever that moment turns out to be. He's a peculiar mix of fun-loving and calm, and enjoys going along with O'ri's antics as long as he doesn't have to exert himself too much. These two especially have grown very attached to their new home, now that they're all settled in and things are going well.

"Seek, then, your door-whorled jades and the relief of ancient warriors and scouts travelling. Great mountains and falls that spray over bridges. Messengers. Fashion your room to your liking, as much as mortal craft can manage, for creation's magic is not in it."

Zhijian's chambers are so far rather bare. With no servants to do it for him, and unwilling to stare at white walls until such time as some might deign to appear, he painted them dark green, and then panelled them in dark wood stolen from an abandoned mansion. Until the arrival of Ashoka, he had no furniture at all, but now there are several small bookshelves to provide a home other than the floor for his hoard.

He still hasn't got a bed, and just sleeps on a pile of furs in the middle of the main room.

Hmm, question for Ivy. Are The'ta'naa and its aoide still around? Zhiji would kind of like to visit sometime.

The'ta'naa still exists, being pieced of the Old City it would be one of the last places to be destroyed. The population is greatly reduced even from its previous tribal states, but a population does survive. The geomancers are mostly what it left, and then only those of the upper levels of skill who were capable of deflecting flux around themselves and keeping pockets around single buildings ...like bubbles in a flood. He Who Knows did not survive, expending the last of his energy in the Week of Paradise to stabilize the powers of the geomancers wholly in Gaia, who would be the last standing god, with the fall of the sky.

So the geomancers can no longer access some of their magic, their attunement to mana lines now wholly dependent on the lines within Gaia.

To answer any question that may arise as to why he could do this, He Who Knows was an aoide once in the service of the Arcane (not Alazne, but the second Arcane), who during time in the holy city chose to defect to Gaia's service. He knew a great deal of old magic, as well as a few Words (though none of the Words were ever passed on to the mortals under him).

This information about him can be learned from the geomancers with a great deal of wheedling, if you desire to do so IC.

...huh. What happens to aoidei when they die now, with Justice/Judgement and so on not really around?

If underworld has not yet set aside a place of waiting (like the Halls of Mandos or christian Purgatory [ not established as a 'place' idealogically until 1030s ish I think] ), then their essences become diffused, wandering for a while then dissipatedinto the same general and forgetting mana that happens to the gods themselves (needing to be collected and re-established if ever to be a conscious entity again)

Zhiji Quest!~

Fang.....BRIDLE, 'yo?!

Mount in travel and battle to the twin crown, yes? Trouble is obviously brewing in the being of the Crown, and supporter to the Emperor, Zhijian naturally wants to be ready for appointed post, whatever the purpose behind it (included the End of All).

Zhiji needs to come to the realisation : "OMG where's my TACK?!"
His symbols of state, what self respecting Emperor would ride a mount that had none of its proper tack?

    The Bridle
  • Made of bark from Yggdrasil, supple and smooth, still living and flowered. A master-crafted artifact gifted to Harmodius for his mount by Hearth, Gaia and Plant. Zhijian suffered no other to wear it, and none save the primordials or his brothers could wield it to tack him up. It is unbreakable and unrivaled in its fairness on the cheek.
    The Bit
  • Woven from cords of Sardis, the First Rose. The thorns on it are sharp and tougher then mithril. Zhijian was not unknown to be possessed of a battle fury, and it was necessary to use such a bit to enforce obedience.
    The Saddle
  • Elaborate does not begin to describe this artifact. It was forged as a gift at the wedding of Universe and Worldshield, a thank you between the two, to the Father of All. Made of starmetals and living comets, carved of magic and with dragon claws. Those who ride in this saddle can not be removed by force. Previously, the Crown had ridden Fangbridle barebacked.
    The Barding
  • Armour fitting for a dragon, made by Forge, War, and Knowledge to best serve as protection in battle. No mortal weapon may pierce it. Even many immortal weapons fail to find compromise in its links...only artifacts will do.

+at least one solo having the realisation that he must be prepared! Destruction seems to be changing forms again, and his influence is growing greater and more wild. Zhiji is not yet prepared for his Lord's riding.

+at least 2 posts, joint or solo, where zhiji has to remember the location of the Bridle. It was, as is to be revealed, most likely in the keeping of one of his former Aoide. Said aoide, while no longer living, carried it to the Horse Lords of Tenquistel, a people primitive but staunchly loyal to the bonds between mount and master and thus to the DragonKing. Think The 13th Warrior protagonists or Tolkien's House of Eorl.

+at least 3 posts travelling to their world, and having to prove himself to the current lords and mounts that he is indeed their Ying Long. Solo or joint
+The Tenquis let Zhiji on to the fact that the bit was stolen from them long ago by a foreigner. FOllow the trail of this foreigner for at least 2 posts. You are at liberty to create the NPC. Are they a sorcerer? A bandit? Was it a rogue aoide-turned-demigod after the fall of the True Gods? Have fun.

+Lastly, Zhiji needs a flashback. His body was once great, and with all the other gods mostly dead, few would have had the strength to remove his artifacts from him, and likely left them on him out of respect anyway. The saddle and barding must be at the site of the old pantheon. When you get to this point, let me know, as I've yet to write up a description or draw a picture of it. 1 post he has a waking dream or sleeping one, remembering his last moments of life. Go for the dramatic gusto as you please. How did the End of the Fangbridle go? The at least 4 posts traveling and exploring the ruins of the great halls of the original pantheon. And coming upon his own remains. Feel free to do more then the required posts if you like, and these may also be done solo or joint. It may be fun to involve another edel in going to the First Pantheon, or it may be too solemn for Zhiji to include anyone else.
