Collins walked along the beach, to the high bridge. Somehow he just know he couldn't take this anymore. It was more than four years since Angel and Mimi died and he was the only one who couldn't continue living. Noone had forgotten, it was just that the others had somehow kept their will to live. Mark and Roger had each other, they were closer than ever now. Right after Mimi's death it was Mark who had kept Roger alive. Maureen and Joanne also had each other, and little three year old Angelo. Collins smiled as he thought about the boy. He could still not believe that he had helped to create something so beautiful ; so perfect. He stood on the bridge now, looking at the rocks beneath him. He had imagined this moment so many times and always thought that he'd be scared, but he wasn't. What was there to be afraid of? He was just going to the person he loved the most. Collins climbed up on the rail of the bridge and looked at the sky for a moment. He was finally going to meet his beloved Angel again.
-What are you doing here?
Collins opened his eyes. He was in a dark, warm place. He was safe. He didn't see who was talking to him, but he didn't need to. He would have recognized Angel's voice anywhere. Suddenly he found himself crying in her arms.
-I'm sorry honey. I couldn't....I just couldn't live on without you
-Shhhh, it's ok baby. I'm here. We'll always be together now.
-Are you angry because I'm here?
-Of course not, silly. I'm happy that we're together again.
-Me too. I'm just tired. Very tired.....Angel, it's been so hard to be alone
-Dont talk anymore baby. You're safe now.
And Collins fell asleep with his head in Angel's lap as she gently sung him a lullaby.
It was after midnight. Angelo Jefferson couldn't sleep as he lay in bed between his mum Joanne and his mummy Maureen. He held the old teddy bear that had once belonged to Tom very tightly. Tom was away now, with Angel and Angelo would never see him again.
-Tom's away, he whispered to the bear with tears in his eyes. The bear looked exactly like if it had understood. The little boy yawned and closed his eyes.
He didn't know if he was dreaming or not, but suddenly he saw a beautiful young woman with black hair and brown eyes smiling at him. He looked at her shyly. Even though he had never seen her before, he thought that he knew who she was. Roger had talked about her so much that he fealt he knew her.
-Are you Mimi, he asked, looking at the ground.
-Yes. That's are very nice bear you have there. Would you two want to come for a little walk with me?
Angelo nodded and took her hand. Together they walk in the warm darkness.
-Do you like this place, Mimi asked.
-Yes. But why am I here?
-You're not here really. You're home in your nice cozy bed. You're jus dreaming, chicito.
-Teddy wants to know where Tom is.
Mimi picked the little boy up and looked at him closely. He had Maureen's eyes, but his skin was darker, like milk chocolate. She gently stroked his long black curls.
-Does Teddy want to know where Tom is? Well then I guess we have to take Teddy to Tom, don't we?
And there his daddy Tom was, with his head in a woman's lap. He knew straight away that she was Angel. Tom looked like he'd just woken up from a long sleep. Angelo ran over and hugged him.
-Hey there little guy, Tom said. I see you've got my Teddy.
-Roger gave him to me when he and mum went through your things. Can I have him?
-Sure, I've got a better teddy bear now.
Collins grinned and hugged Angel tight until Mimi started laughing.
-Ok, you two, behave now, there's a child here you know.
Angel went down to her knees and hugged Angelo.
-You're so beautiful, do you know that, little Angel. Me and Mimi are always watching over you. And now your daddy will too.
-He's not my daddy, he's just Tom.
-Ok honey "just Tom" will be watching over you too. But you need to go back to your bed now.
Angel kissed Angelo on the forehead and held him in her arms for a long time. Then Tom hugged him too. It was time to go. Angel and Tom waved as Mimi led him back to the spot where he first was.
-Chicito, can you do me a favour, she asked. Tell Roger that...... just tell him that I'll always love him.
Angelo's mum and mummy were still asleep. Taking his teddy with him he crawled out of bed and went into the kitchen. Roger was there, holding his guitar, but not playing it.
-Hey, Angel, why aren't you asleep, he asked
-I had a strange dream.
- A nightmare?
Roger tapped on his lap and Angelo crawled up. Roger hair tickled funnily in his face.
-No, just a strange dream. Where's Mark?
Roger sighed.
-I don't know buddy
Angelo had seen Mark run out of the door crying after he had heard about Tom's death. He had taken a big bottle of what the grown ups called vodka with him.
-Roger????
-Yes, Angel.
-About the dream...
-Yeah?
Angelo looked at Roger. Could he tell him?
-Well...Tom was there. And Angel. They were together. Happy
Roger cried and smiled at the same time
-That's good buddy, that's good.
-And.....
Angelo couldn't go on. Roger looked at him, as if he knew what the boy tried to say.
-Mimi was there too, right?
-Yes. And she said that she'd always love you.
Roger rocked the boy in his arms for a long time.
- You know what, he finally said. I think your teddy needs some friends.
-Friends?
Roger carried Angelo to his and Marks room. There were two toys on their bed, a pink soft toy bunny rabbit and a doll dressed in mexican clothes.
-You know who theese belonged to?
The boy smiled as he cuddled the rabbit.
-Angel and Mimi?
-Yeah. We had planned on giving them to you when you start school, but as you already have Collins' old teddy...
In a few minutes the boy was asleep with his toys in his arms. Roger sat next to him, gently playing his guitar. He sang the same words he had sung every night after Mimi's death.
-I should tell you, I should tell you, I have always loved you
And from the other place came the answer. I should tell you I love you
