<center> :: the aeta children ::</center>
the aeta is a roleplay universe created by myself and Toushin. in this world, you roleplay under the guise of an aeta child. the child is born from a tree guarded by Ahezal, a dragon with magnificent powers. Ahezal is one of three dragons in the aeta world that can control time and fate. playing your child, you guide them through life: learning a profession, growing to adulthood, and even choosing to quest for eternal happiness.

the aeta is based firmly on the principles of controlling time and fate. the dragon triad- Ahezal, Zalyeh, and Anazsi, represent the three major alignments in the game. Ahezal is neutral- focused on keeping the universe aligned evenly. Zalyeh represents good, and Anazsi represents evil. all dragons are capable of controlling these forces, and the aeta children are at their mercy.

over time, your aeta will be born (from a pod, grown on the aeta tree), will apprentice and eventually master their profession, and grow into an adult. hopefully you will be able to join this universe and roleplay along with others!

please feel free to RP your aeta, introduce them to a home or cottage in hunlock village, and have them meyander around town.

think of the town as a previously inhabited ghost town, with a few NPCs that will flutter in and out of the RP (example: an old female aeta who lives in her house and never leaves... an innkeeper, a blacksmith, etc.). the child aeta are able to care for their homes, and cook small meals.

have fun! ^__^ myself and the other dragon RPers will keep an eye on your RPing and "level up" your aeta with experience points (you need 5 total to quest for adulthood).
Wednesday, May 5:the RP contest is wrapping up, so i've decided to make the first SE auction... for a co-owned set of characters- alpha and omega (the beginning and the end). the auction will begin on friday, this week, at noon gaia time. enjoy!

Tuesday, April 20: i'm back from my trip now :X had a great time in edmonton ^_^ the flatsale is definitely going to be today, at 3:00 GAIA TIME which translates to 6:00 eastern time. i hope everyone that has been wanting one can make it!

Friday, April 16: yay! i felt the need to put an announcement section here because a lot of people have been asking for more information about when the flatsale is, etc. right now, the TENTATIVE flatsale date is Tuesday, April 20. no time set, though i'm going to try to make it a time that is convenient for the 4 north american timezones (minus hawaii. sorry hawaii!).

<center>:: overview ::</center>
okay! so you've made it past the introduction, and now you're confused.. or intrigued? here's a short overview of exactly how the aeta work, how you can RP them, etc:

• there will be 2 or 3 main threads for the aeta. this- the information and production thread; a breeding centre- where you can apply to breed your aeta, and equip it with available items; and the RP thread- where you go to roleplay your aeta extensively, and seriously

• aeta are RP-based pets, but you do not HAVE to RP them if you do not want to. this is the failsafe for those who either want the art, the character, or just don't have the time to RP it, but still want to keep it. if you do not RP it, however, you will not have the chance to get as many options for advancement of your pet. don't let this hold you back, though, from wanting to own one! you can still have just as much fun with your aeta!

• aeta are born out of pods. these pods are similar to the "eggs" that other pets hatch out of. the pods are just another stage of life of the aeta, and every state of life is important. since the "plot" or "storyline" of these pets revolves around time and fate, it is important that you care for your pod just as much as you care for a living aeta

• the aeta pods grow on Ahezal's tree. Ahezal, being one of the three dragons mentioned earlier. there are as many different pods as there are breeds of aeta, and depending on what part of the tree the pod is grown on, will determine the type of profession your aeta will be shuffled into

• once your aeta is born, you should RP it as an apprentice of its profession. your aeta will be given different RP situations, and the chance to advance its profession. depending on which profession your aeta goes into determines what kind of accessories it will be equipped with. the architect aeta will first learn to build tools, meaning it will be equipped with a hammer, or a chisel. later, the architect learns to build weapons, which the warrior aeta will be equipped with. the artisan will be equipped with tools used to create music, or create art. the mage will be equipped with robes, wands, hats, or staffs

• aeta grow into adults only after they decide to "quest" to one of the twin dragons' trees. if you do not want to RP your aeta, you may choose to have it stay with Ahezal and grow to adulthood by Ahezal's hand. if you do want to RP your aeta's quest, you will have to do so in the main RP thread. the quest will be long (a two or three day undertaking, depending on how much RP is involved), and at the end, you will be rewarded with an adult aeta!

• after adulthood, you may decide whether or not you want your aeta to settle down, or continue questing for immortality. there are restrictions set on both, which are covered by the posts below

• breeding is also covered by the posts below, with some restrictions set. breeding is a large undertaking, requiring gold on your part, and artwork on my part :3

• in the future, there will be many more professions to open up, and more alignments. these alignments and professions are all determined by Ahezal and the other dragons, and will result in aeta that can be auctioned, raffled, flat-sold, and lastly, acquired in games and events

• flatsale, auction, and game information can be found in posts below

• lastly, please read through the remainder of this thread for more information regarding the aeta, how to RP the aeta, and other fun stuff!

<center>:: professions ::</center>
in the beginning, there are 4 major branches that pods grow from. these branches represent professions- or, the "jobs" that your aeta will apprentice at to become adults.

the four initial professions:

mage- these are the magic-users and religious type aeta. under their apprenticeship, they learn basic potions, spells, and the art of medicine. on their quest to adulthood, they may have to use these skills to heal others, or ward off enemies. once they become adults, they can master their profession by continuing their studies in the magic arts. as adults, their skills become more powerful. under the guidance of the dragon they choose, they can learn new potions, spells, and skills.

architect: craftsmen and builders, architect type aeta are responsible for building weaponry and creating all physical structures including homes and necessities. architects may do grunt work, but are entirely responsible for allowing the world to keep its balance- without craftsmen, mage aeta will not have staffs or cloaks, and warrior aeta will not have weapons or armour. as adults, architects are capable of creating items faster, and even creating entirely new and custom items for the other aeta.

warrior: these are the fighters, rangers, and leaders. though they are not capable of using magic, warriors apprentice by learning to use weapons, fight, and manipulate the earth to guide them. they are incredibly adept at using weapons, and must learn to master one specific weapon before they can complete their apprenticeship. as adults, they hone their skills and learn new techniques, and can even master a separate weapon, if they wish.

artisan: though they may not appear important compared to the other professions, artisans are critical for raising morale and creating wonder and amazement for others. artisans tend to be bards, artists, performers, and sometimes, magic-users. as apprentices, they learn to mold their natural creative skills and master an art form. a performer artisan may learn how to dance during their apprenticeship, and an artist may learn to paint. bards will learn instruments and singing, and magicians will practice their skills of entertainment.

with that said, the dragons take an important part in deciding the final professions and the alignments of the aeta. even if your aeta is born into a specific profession, for instance, if it is born as a bard- you may have the option to "change" the aeta's alignment before they quest to become an adult. to do this, you must make sure that the aeta works especially hard to complete their apprenticeship. because Ahezal is concerned with keeping a balance in the world, he may be concerned that the aeta wishes to master a different profession. though it is rare, Ahezal may not alllow an aeta to join the profession of their choice.

all aeta are born from Ahezal's tree, and though their profession is primarily decided through what section of the tree they are born from, their alignment is not necessarily decided entirely by the tree. based on how your aeta acts, their personality, and general disposition, your aeta's final alignment is decided by the dragon they choose to quest to meet.

light: "light" aligned aeta tend to serve and help others, and are not so much focused on helping themselves as helping the group as a whole. these aeta are very farsighted, and may get too caught up looking towards a better future, not noticing how their actions may affect the group until it's too late.

neutral: "neutral" aligned aeta are neither kind nor cruel to others. they serve themselves primarily, and know that if the group is benefited or hurt, it affects them directly. they will work for the better of the group, if it benefits them, but are not necessarily concerned with helping others if they can't get anything out of it.

dark: "dark" aeta will stop at nothing to help themselves, even if it means deliberately hurting the group. they are generally nearsighted and cannot see the big picture, and end up hurting themselves in the end. however, if the aeta is only concerned with the current state of affairs, this is not necessarily a bad alignment to be part of.

alignments and professions are decided for final only after the aeta complete their quest to adulthood. depending on which dragon they choose (see the quest topic for more information), their alignment and profession will be decided, primarily, by their actions both before and during their quest.

<center>:: breeding ::</center>
<img src="http://pbbbt.net/aeta/graphics/raven_f_small.png" align="right">once an aeta matures, you as the owner can decide what path of life it is going to follow. there are two basic paths that your aeta may take, to live out the rest of their life:

settle down: the first, your aeta may choose to "settle down" and master their professions. this means that they will no longer quest, and will lead a tranquil, but boring life. they may breed and produce a maximum of 5 offspring before they die. on average, they will produce 2 to 3 offspring per breeding, and may breed twice.

quest: if you're not interested in having your aeta settle down and lead a domestic life, you may choose to have them quest for immortality. this quest is long, and may take quite a while to roleplay, but allows you to keep your aeta from dying. you are still allowed to breed your aeta and it will produce a maximum of two offspring. during the quests, your aeta will also learn to master their professions, but because of the activities, it may take longer to do so.

before deciding how to complete their life, however, your aeta must meet the following requirements-

requirements for breeding:

• your aeta must be an adult at least one week (7 days)

• depending on what path your aeta decides to take, you must agree to the restrictions set for breeding

• as there will be a waiting list, you must first get a slot on the list before i agree to breed your aeta

• you must pay the 5k breeding fee(2.5k per owner) if you get a slot on the waiting list

provided your aeta meets the requirements, and you have paid the breeding fee in full, you have successfully completed your part of the breeding. afterwards, keep your eyes open for the pods that will develop on Ahezal's tree. once the pods are fully formed, you will be given certs bearing the pod images and other information.

<center>:: quests ::</center>
<img src="http://pbbbt.net/aeta/graphics/rabbit_f_small.png" align="right">in order to advance into their next stages, aeta must quest to appease the dragons. questing involves taking a path away from the tree community, and crossing land or water to locate either another tree or a sacred/necessary object.

over the time that your aeta is performing their quest, the lineart or colour may change slightly to reflect what has happened to your pet. for instance, if your aeta is involved in a battle and injured, your lineart may change to show a splint or cuts/bruises. this is just another benefit to questing- you get to see your aeta change and grow!

the first, main quest is necessary for advancing your aeta from child to adult. a generic quest, it involves you roleplaying your aeta down a set path to one of two trees. at first, the group of aeta work together and use their skills to follow a map. later, they will split up into groups based on their alignment, to trek to either Zalyeh or Anazsi's trees.

not much more can be explained about the initial quests, as it will ruin the surprise for the first generation of aeta! keep your eyes peeled when the first generation is ready to roleplay their quests to adulthood.

<center>The Dragons:</center>
in the beginning, there were three dragons that ruled the land. they bear important powers, including control of time and fate. they retain control over the aeta world, but cannot survive without one another. not realizing this, the two forces are constantly at war.

<img src="http://www.pbbbt.net/aeta/graphics/lightpod_small.png" align="left">Ahezal: (played by trufflepig) the "neutral" force, Ahezal is responsible for protecting the inhabitants of the aeta tree and surrounding areas. Ahezal does not work for his personal benefit, as he knows that any imbalance in the universe will only lead to chaos. his job consists of the following:

• placing pods on the tree to be born into specific alignments and professions
• helping to raise and parent the aeta children, guiding them through their apprenticeships
• mentoring the children in their professions, and observing their alignments
• preparing children to take their quest to adulthood

Zalyeh: (played by Nerpin) the "light" force, Zalyeh is responsible for helping owners name their aeta, and deciding their final profession and alignment. Zalyeh is preoccupied with the power of light and goodness. she gets ahead of herself, at times, and is often at odds with Anazsi, the "dark" dragon. Zalyeh's duties consist of the following:

• mentoring adult aeta who have chosen the path of "light"
• re-naming child aeta who wish to become adults, and helping them to decide their final profession and alignment
• teaching "master" techniques so aeta can further their professions

Anazsi: (played by Toushin) the "dark" force, Anazsi is responsible for teaching aeta the dark arts, after the chosen aeta decide to quest to her tree. Anazsi is Zalyeh's polar twin, and though they have similar responsibilites, they work for separate ends of the spectrum. Anazsi's duties consist of the following:

• mentoring adult aeta who have chosen the path of "darkness"
• re-naming child aeta who wish to become adults, and helping them to decide their final profession and alignment
• teaching "master" techniques so aeta can further their professions

<center>Outside Characters:</center>
outside of the dragons and the aeta children, other creatures roam the land. helpful creatures and disturbances alike, they aid and help to develop the aeta children throughout their lives. some of these creatures are neutral, some light, and some evil. as they are found, their profiles will be added to this post.

Udara-Isra: (played by Wasabineko) easily contented and amused, Udara-Isra has never felt the need to leave her home in the gnarled roots of the aeta tree. she has no knowledge of her origins and has never seen another of her kind. a pack rat by nature, there is a chance that any item that can fit inside a coconut might have been buried or hidden in a knot by the snail-bodied child. her chores consist of the following:

• aiding Ahezal by inspecting growing pods for malformities or disease
• encouraging and aiding aeta children and their guardians by sharing her knowledge of the world around them and providing a resource or two (but don't be surprised if she asks for an item in trade!)
• delivering non-urgent messages from the dragons or other NPCs

• the first flatsale aeta will cost 2000 gold each, and there is absolutely NO co-owning!

• i will announce in the thread the exact time that the flatsale will start, and will give you a 2 or 3 minute warning before the announcement.

• like the puri pets flatsale, you are going to have to choose to answer ONE out of a possible FOUR riddle questions. these questions will be found on the first page of the topic. i will not say what post on the first page they will be on.

before the aeta children were brought into the world, ahezal painted a map of the land on a large canvas. he gave this canvas to an elder aeta who keeps it in his home. to the aeta, this map represents the four corners of their world. the land is vast and mostly unexplored. only the dragons have ever travelled to all four corners, though they prefer to keep to themselves in their small parts of the world.

there is a well-known rumour that any creature who touches all four corners will become immortal- impervious to magic and injury. as of this writing, no aeta have ever completed the quest and lived to tell the tale.

the map is sectioned into its important landmarks. below are explanations of each.

ahezal's tree: the starting point for most aeta, ahezal's tree is where the pods mature. because it is guarded by the most powerful of the dragons, the tree stands as a 'safe point,' where no harm can come to any creatures that sit in its branches.

hunlock village: hunlock village is where the aeta live. as children, they are taught their professions here, and train to quest for their adulthood. as adults, the aeta can choose to move to hunlock village and live a quiet life, or they may choose to quest for immortality (touch all four corners of the map) to return to hunlock village at a later date.

the forest: the forest is a dangerous but beautiful place. all range of trees grow in it. towards the north, there are primarily deciduous and pine trees. the canopy is thick and dry, making this part of the forest prone to fires. in the centre-area of the forest (just above the small step bridge), more tropical trees can be found. the canopy is lush and moist, making disease a serious factor in travelling through. closest to the river, where the thickness of the forest comes to an end, is where the cyprus trees grow. the enormous roots of these trees, and the swamplike atmosphere, breed insects and large water-born animals.

hunlock creek: hunlock creek is a deceptive body of water. though it is a slow moving creek, it widens to thirty feet, all the way down to having a width of only three feet. as the creek widens, the water moves more slowly, making it a prime place to bathe and wash clothing. however, at its thickest point, the creek is also at its deepest. many young aeta have drowned while playing in the creek.

zalyeh's shores: zalyeh, the peaceful dragon, prefers to live on a sandy, warm beach. the water from hunlock creek empties into a small sea, and as the water curls to the left, it escapes rocky cliffs to gently stroke the sands of the beach. zalyeh lives beside a few large boulders, where she crafts baubles made from glass and stones. the shores are the easiest point to reach on the aeta's quest for immortality, and it is recommended that they visit their first, so zalyeh may bless their journey.

the prairies: an aeta must cross the prairies to meet anazsi.. though, why would they want to? the prairies are filled with enormous beasts, and little sustenance unless your aeta prefers the taste of yellowed grass. a dried creekbed denotes the end of the prairies, and is also a sign that your aeta has made it across the worst of the grasslands, alive. there are, however, a few regenerating and healing grasses that can be found in the prairies.

anazsi's caverns: these caverns are where many aeta meet their end. anazsi is a cold and ruthless dragon, and her surroundings are fit to match her personality. there is little food, but a great supply of fresh spring water there. anazsi prefers the company of vultures and reptiles, so your aeta must be prepared to come across footdragons (dragons roughly the size of your foot) and enormous, gutteral sounding birds. the caverns are an unpleasant place to be.

<center>:: roleplay guidelines ::</center>
roleplay is a very important part to owning your aeta. though you may choose not to RP, it is preferred that you spend some time developing your character and having it learn skills that will help it become a productive adult.

you may roleplay your aeta in a number of places. first, you may play as your character in this thread. if you choose to RP your aeta here, keep in mind that the thread could move fast, and other aeta owners may not know about specific skills you will have your aeta learn.

this is why it is preferred that you RP in the main roleplay thread, found ((here)). all roleplay in this thread is to be considered 'serious' and directly affects your character. i and/or my assistants will keep a watchful eye over this thread. all events that occur will help to develop your character physically and mentally. if your character is injured in this thread, (for example: your craftsman aeta is cut while creating a dagger) your actual character image will be modified to show the change. this means your craftsman aeta may have a cut or a scar in the place that he has sliced himself.

frequently, one of the three dragons will make an appearance in the thread to give your aeta experience points (this is a system-in-progress, meaning it is not 100% developed yet). these experience points add up to help your aeta master skills such as magic (for mages) or battle training (for warriors). once your aeta gains enough experience points, they will be ready to set out on their quest for adulthood.

it is also in this thread that your aeta may request to speak to ahezal, zalyeh, or anazsi. if your aeta wishes to change their profession, they must seek the approval of one of the dragons first. after your aeta is given permission, you must divide its experience points already gained in half, and start from that point on their new profession. this is to keep people from changing their minds half way through, and a warning for people who wish to have their aeta choose a different profession from the start- don't wait to seek approval! do it first! :3

the last place you may roleplay your aeta is in a private journal. this journal is set up by you, not myself or anyone on staff. if you decide to have a journal.. great! either post the link in this thread, or PM me the link, and i will put up the link next to your character's description. you may write about anything in your journal, keep a sketch journal, or a log of your aeta's quests or progression.

basic roleplay rules and regulations:

:: roleplay is monitored by myself (ahezal), wasabineko (udara), Nerpin (zalyeh), and toushin (anazsi).

:: you do not need to have an aeta to RP in *this* thread, however you MUST have an aeta to RP in the main roleplay thread. i ask that all commentary on the RP be left to this thread, as it disturbs the flow of RP in the main thread.

:: no god-moding or powerplaying, please. if you protest and try to screw with the thread, your posts will be deleted by one of our wunnerful mods, and you will likely be grey or blacklisted from this and other shops.

:: you may have all the fun you wish, but keep your RP serious. please do not fluctuate between OOC and IC while RPing in the main RP thread. if you have to leave an OOC message, write it like this --> (( OOC: hey guys, i have to go eat dinner.. be back soon! )). in double parenthesis.

:: the RP itself in the main RP thread is not 100% moderated by myself and my associates. this means you may RP your character in any way you wish, however please keep the RP situated within the world of the aeta (see map).

a good example of how to RP your aeta can be found in this short description:

• let's say your aeta is a rabbit craftsman. you RP him at first, getting accustomed to the tools that he will use to create a sword. in your first RP session you may have him learning how to use a hammer. he swings and misses, and hits his thumb. you will later receive your character's picture with a bandage over his hand... and one experience point!
• your second session may be comprised of your aeta trying to heat the metal of the sword and then hammering it down. he fails at this, because it is his first time trying to craft with metal. he is discouraged, but in your third session, he is able to make a very dull blade. add 1.5 experience points! this brings your aeta up to 2.5 experience points, out of a possible 5.
• the next time your RP your aeta, he may get distracted by a pretty girl aeta. this may mean he'd lose .5 experience points, because ahezal doesn't like it when aeta dawdle! the next time your aeta goes into his shop, he is able to hammer out a much sharper sword. very nice! + 2 experience points, bringing him to 4 of 5.
• he gives this sword to a fellow warrior, who has been gaining experience points by practicing with sharpened branches. for giving away his project, your aeta gets another .5 experience points.
• your aeta, having much experience from creating the sword, creates a small dagger in 1/2 the time it took him to create the sword. plus .5 more experience points.. and now he is allowed to quest to become an adult!

:: as you can see, it's not hard to gain experience points. however, it does require some RP. the loophole to this, is you may simply ask ahezal (PM me) to have your aeta become an adult. this, though, is kind of a weak way out of doing work.. so your aeta will not get all of the neat stuff that comes along with becoming an adult.

this is all the advice offered for now. once more concepts and ideas come up, this post will be updated. ^_^
