Vince, and Why I'm Currently Here Instead.

Vince wished me to explain his situation and why I am in his account, running this instead of him at this time. I realized, that no one would be able to do any better than himself. I feel that I should quote some parts of a message he sent to several friends and then I'll go on from there with the updates.

I was born with a genetic defect in my lungs that allows me very little room for them to expand. It's a kind of...growth on them that inhibits their function. Now, as gross as that sounds, it's not as bad as you may think. I've had one of my lungs collapse three times in the course of my lifetime, but I've also learned what I can and cannot do. It's something I learned to live with. About a year ago, the situation turned sour, and I ended up with a semi maligant tumor that has now overtaken my left lung. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I suppose the correct term would have to be "lung cancer."

My doctors and I have been monitoring the situation for a while. My disappearences on this forum have been mainly due to sessions of chemotherapy

It's now that I have to bring this up, because my treatment has not been effective and I'm scheduled for surgery on September 12th. Doctors will remove the infected lung to see if they can stop the tumor from spreading.

For a while it was really touch and go but Vince is now awake and hopefully will be able to be home soon but he is not sure when he'll be able to come back to gaia.

That being said, he didn't want people to think he was gone. He wants everyone to know he is still active in the forum and has asked me to run this for him until he is able to take over it himself. It will be fairly long running. Updates on his health will be posted here.

I'm only going to be going into his account to update the thread and keep tabs on things, otherwise I'll be in my Nolah de Fanel account.

Vince is back in the hospital due to complications. It is very serious and I'll leave it at that for now.

1/07 - Vince is home, fairly stable but weak. He will be in and out as he can.

Contest Entry, Rules, Regulations and Specifics

This is a prompt contest, a prompt which I will reveal at the end of this post. That being said, the prompt must be in the story. No making it the theme, the actual prompt must be in the story, oh ho! Try to be creative as possible, that is why these contests are held.

This contest is currently an ongoing contest and will most likely run for a while. There is no set deadline for right now.

RULES:

1. No poetry. Only prose, and you choose the subject, setting etc.

2. There is no entry fee. Nice eh?

3. Must be at least 2000 words.

4. Post entries in the thread do no PM entries or questions. Questions posted in the thread will be answered, PMs will not.

5. Follow Gaia ToS, if you feel you can't post your entry in the thread then please revise it.

6. Literacy is a must. Poor spelling and grammar will be frowned upon.

7. Be nice to your fellow gaians. No fighting.

8. More rules if I can think of them later.

You can switch tenses if need be.

My Q&A post.

Alright. This is where questions and their answers shall be put once posting is allowed. I will only been in and out of Vince's account to keep things updated and finish constructing this contest. Otherwise I'll be in mine so I figured I'd reserved my own post.

Is the a limit to how many words that can be in the story?

No word limit, just the minimum of 2000 words.

So the idea of the contest is to write a story that somehow has those words in it? Sorry I am just alittle confused about that.

The idea with a prompt is either to include the prompt itself word by word, or to incorporate it into your work. With this contest you need to have the prompt, word for word, with allowed tense switches, in your story. Prefferably the prompt is used in a way that ties things together and/or in meaningful and significant. If you just submit a random story with the prompt inserted than you'll be far less likely to score big.

Do you want a short story?

Yes. The contest is strictly prose. No poetry or essays or anything else. Prose, with a minimum of 2000 words.

I'm currently in the process of writing a short story for this other prompt contest. And, I can intergrate this prompt into the same story. So, I was wondering if I may enter it here, when finished, while also competing in the other contest as well

I see no problem with it, so go right ahead.

Is there a deadline?

NO DEADLINE YET, and it'll be a long one once it is established.

My entry has gotten much longer than I had intended.
Would it be alright to break it up into a few seperate posts?

Completely fine. The only thing he doesn't want is PMed entries.

Do these short stories have to be completely made up, or are we allowed to use characters from animes or something?

Original work only, so yes. Your own characters, setting, plot etc.
