A Glyphon: is a form of Gryphon that has a great attachment to the written language, in particular the human written language.
Prehistoric Glyphons had forked tails that could chip rock into glyphs, There name stems from this. These highly intelligent mutations of the gryphons seam to have evolved over time, the brush like tail of today's Glyphons is due to the introduction of paper and ink. A legend among Glyphons of how they adapted is interesting but unproven.
The tale relates an unfortunate accident where a glyphon smashed his tail under a stone he was carving, shameful of his now fuzzy disfigured tail he flew east. Upon landing in a land untouched by glyphons he learned of the local form of using ink on rice paper to write glyphs, languages and symbols. His new tail was perfect for that so he learned. And once he was fully redeemed returned to teach his fellow glyphons of his new talent.
So where are they now?
Well dose your local librarian seem way to interested in her books? Is your teacher always looking in some book or another? Glyphons have adapted a type of defense that makes them appear human to most humans. They literally have an illusion of humanity and so we ignore or mistake there true identity. To those who know what to look for we can see there true form but keep it a secret, its for there own good.
