Welcome to Gaia! ::

A keylogger is a malicious program that hackers can use to get your password and username. Only if you actually type it out. You can get a keylogger from links from scammers and hackers. If you suspect you have one, run a Spyware or Virus scan or other scans to detect and destroy it. YIf you don't have any of these programs, try Norton, Mcafee, ghost surf, or black ice to help stop keyloggers.
Hm.. Interesting guide. I have lots of experience with keyloggers, and I would like to add a few comments here.

1. Keyloggers aren't always found by anti-virus programs.. in fact, in most cases they aren't "viruses" by definition. Sometimes you install a program for one purpose and get a keylogger instead.. this is seen most often if a user is trying to download a program crack or a key generator for a program for example..
The keylogger is a trojan horse in those cases, and most likely won't be detected. You have to use your own judgment and stay away from illegal programs like that.

2. For those looking for keyloggers, don't be stupid. 99.9% of them online are viruses. The ones that aren't are malicious in that they not only transmit keys to your screen, but relay them to the powers that created them in the first place. Using your keylogger even for good (Not sure what good at the moment) could be very bad for you.

3. Keyloggers come in all shapes and sizes.. in fact, they aren't always programs or extensions of programs. I've even seen javascript programs built into websites that can track mouse movements and key presses on the page.

Easiest way to stay away from keyloggers (and viruses as well generally) is to stay away from suspicious and untrustworthy software applications on the internet, and never accept a program from someone you don't know or trust. Basically.. downloading software off of some Joe's website might seem like a great idea to any script-kiddie out there, but the true fact of the matter is that you will get yourself into more harm than good.

... this coming from someone who hasn't had a virus on his computer for over 5 years now.
