Spam Attack- Color coordinated?

I have put "Conditions" in the title to let you have a rough idea on how bad the attacks are.

Green- All quiet at the moment
Yellow- One or two minor attackers, it's either just getting started or finished and being cleaned up
Orange- Multiple attackers working hard at getting to us.
Red- An actual effective attack that has nearly stopped normal functions in General Discussion due to the offensiveness/effectiveness of it.

Spam Attack- What is it?

A spam attack is when a group of new users join at the same time for the specific purpose of upsetting the users of Gaia. This can be done in a variety of methods; including, but not limited to
- Posting numerous (10+) topics that are pure spam
- Posting numerous comments and/or topics with racial and purposely offensive sayings
- Posting various inappropriate pictures

Spam Attack- What do I do?

The proper way to take a spam attack is as follows

1- Never quote the spammers, ESPECIALLY if they are posting things that are offensive.
2- Never acknowledge the spammers, do not post in their threads, do not flame their remarks.
3- Never make threads regarding the spammers at the moment directly. They are rude, but not stupid more often than not. They will see your topic and will both realize that they are getting to someone and have a new target to attack.
4- Private Message an online moderator with links to offensive threads/posts. Online moderators can be found listed at the bottom of the index page HERE
5- Avoid threads at all costs. This is more for your sake than anyone else's, as you do not want to be "Goatse'd"

Spam Attack- Where DO I go to discuss it if not make my own topic?

Here. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. The spam attacks were at one point a rare occurance, but they have grown increasingly frequent and made the need for this thread in my eyes. Hopefully, this thread will live. Idle chitchat is fine, as it will be looked upon as a form of bumps. When you need information regarding any current spam attacks, come to this thread and you'll be able to learn which moderator is currently being PMed and which users are taking care of the PMs, so we don't flood the inboxes of these mods and make the job even slower.

Spam Attack- The moderator hasn't replied yet, I'm going to send another PM.

No. Send one PM and try to include multiple links in it as well. If you see more threads by the attackers, then you may send another PM to the same mod with those links. Do NOT flood the PM boxes of mods with your messages, as if it is a real attack, other users have sent out PMs as well. Just send it and wait, you've done all you can.

Spam Attack- The difference between newbies and attackers

Sometimes telling the difference between a newbie and an attacker can be tricky. The best way to tell the difference is that attackers set out to offend all users whereas newbies just make rather stupid posts. Both are forms of spam however, so report both types just to be safe. But just because InuyashSephirothGothyXReaperDeath made 2 identical threads and 3 other ones on stupid topics like hats and chicken does not mean he is an attacker. He's just an innocent newbie, report his threads for movement to Chatterbox if they offend you that much.

New attack starting up, first poster noticed= CJayC of gamefaqs.com
Supposedly an attack from gamefaqs, but it seems so blatant that they are drawing attention to themselves, I am led to personally believe it is a setup and NOT from gamefaqs. I could be wrong

goat see is a new one, and she/he has only made one thread witha link to some porn with s**t on the person's face. This person has stayed in one thread so far as I have seen and actually is discussing. I am loathe to report her thread as it's keeping her in one place.

XXXlexiXXX Is attacking our thread with the skeet+bukkake combo that has become popular. Damned green mods not being here.

There has been some...interesting new information.

This is in reference to the 10 or so attacks we've had in a month. So yes, that one too.

There's a guy posting porn today. It's kind of funny since half the time the pictures don't work.

Don't say stuff like that! You'll only encourage him.

For now, he's in a benign "Senator Palpatine" stage. Don't help him reach "Evil Emperor."

Yes, I plan on asking for that when this is complete. As of now, it needs a bit more work I believe.

And I'm open to suggestions.
