So, here's the deal. I run :: auratus ::, a breedable/changing pet shop. A few months ago, I decided to go around asking various artists if they would be willing to create special-edition, one of a kind fish for me, to auction off. I asked about 5 artists, but only one came through. I was immensely happy with the result, and how much people liked the idea.

Why am I here? I'm looking for more guest artists! It will most likely be a one-time thing per person, unless they really like doing it. I'm not going to flood the market with pretty fish, though, as the ones I'm looking for aren't goldfish.

Sound interesting? Scroll on down for an example of what I'd like, and what would be required of you. And what you'd get out of the deal. :3

So, this is what I'm looking for. This volitans lionfish was done by Sarabi Adruenna. Everything - the lineart, coloring, and shading/highlights. Pretty, right? This is currently the only example I have.. there'd be more, if those other artists had come through. Ah well.

What am I looking for?

As the artist, you would be completely responsible for everything. You'd even get to pick the fish! (I have to give the okay on it, though, don't forget.) You'd need to be able to sketch it out, show me (get it approved), then do the lineart and completely color it. It's not a small task, I'll warn you right now. But the end result.. whee. Oh, yeah, and you don't need to frequent breedables, or even minishops.. if you can do what I'm asking, bring it on!

The art: I'm not going to kid around, as the artist, you'll need to pull your own weight and come up with something well-done. Nice lineart, nice coloring, etc. I'd like to see examples of your past work so I know what you're capable of before you start working on the fish itself. You'll also need to be able to color realistically (and with detail), as these special editions will need to look as close to the real thing as possible. I know it took Sarabi hours and hours to get the stripes on the lionfish right, and I'll expect the same quality from anyone else.

-> Note: You will only need to do the FINAL, ADULT stage of whatever fish you choose. No eggs, no fry. Just the adult. The SE's are only one stage.

The fish: The fish itself can really be anything.. just so long as it's a fish, or pretty close. No sharks, whales, dolphins, stuff like that. I'll allow sea slugs and nifty weird snails and such. It can be a saltwater or freshwater fish, just as long as it really exists. If you have a question on whether something is admissable as a fish, just talk to me. All fish need to be approved by me anyway.

What I need from you: Before you can start with the feeshy, I'd like to see examples (lineart, coloring, shading) of what you're capable of. There's a form in the next post that you can fill out and post in the thread, along with any questions you might have or anything you'd like clarified. Once I decide that I like what you have to offer, you'll need to do a little research on potential fish, and run them by me. If I say okay (which I probably will), sketch that baby out and show me! I really do like to see what progress is being made, and offer suggestions on what could improve and such. The lineart comes next, and then the coloring. It all sounds rather complicated (and demanding of me), but I just like to stay informed of what is happening with my shop, and I want the outcome of the artwork to be the best it can be!

Artist's Obligations: It's pretty simple.. if you say you're going to make a fish for me, please follow through. Take pride in what you've done and do it well. And please don't take months to finish. That's no fun.

Technical Stuff: You can color everything in whatever program you normally use. I just need the final version that's sent to be to be a .PNG file. Or, if you prefer, .PSD. And as large as you're comfortable with. Not massive, but big enough to be able to work in small details. It's probably best to have a program with layers so you can do everything separate.

If I forgot anything (and I always do), don't be afraid to ask! <3
Application Form

So, here's the form I'd like you to fill out if this fish thing is something you'd be interested in doing. Please post it in the thread. If I like what you have to offer, I will contact you either via PM or AIM, if you have it listed.

How long do you think it would take you to complete a project like this?
Examples: (Remember, I want to see examples of your lineart, coloring, and shading. If there are any shops you've worked for, list 'em, along with what you did there.)
How can I get in contact with you? (I highly prefer AIM. It's easier, faster, and less messy than eighty PMs.)

What the heck is in it for me?

I saved the best part for last! You want to know what you'd get out of the deal, right? Simple. You tell me.

That's right. I let my artists choose what their payment is.. it just needs to be within reason. All special edition fish are auctioned, so people normally choose a certain cut of the proceeds from that. I'm an artist. I know how it feels for people to tell me what MY art is worth and have it be some crappy cut that isn't fair. Just for reference, that lionfish went for 150k, and Sarabi asked for half. 75k isn't bad, eh? But, I'll leave the finances up to you. We'll work it out.

Remember, the price a special edition goes for at auction usually depends on how good it looks! If it only goes for 50k, then you'd get whatever percentage of that we agreed on. If it goes for 300k, then you'd get the same percentage of that.

If, for some reason, you'd like something else, like a custom auratus or something, that's cool too. If you wanna combine the custom and less of a cut from the auction, that's fine. Talk to me and we'll work it out. We'll just need to figure out the cut before the auction.
Open for posting!
First post! heart

One question: are turtles(the pond type, ie red-eared slider) allowed?
Aw, that'd be cute.. no, though. Fishies only!
orph, why don't you do a special koi for the shop!?

that'd be neat @o@
I don't have plenty of other koi in my other shop? xP

I dunno, maybe in the future.
Okay ^^
Thanks Orph :3

Why does this interest you?
- Why doesn't it? Auratus is a shop I've been lurking in since its opening, and it'd be a nice challenge for me to do realism again. Besides, I absolutely adore fishes <3!
How long do you think it would take you to complete a project like this?
- For my current style, I'd take about a day or two full steam to draw, ink and shade(inking takes longer than the others, as I've only a mouse to work with). One non-realistic betta took me about a half a day to complete. For this, I'd say about a week or two(with college in the way).
Examples:
-> I'm the owner and full-time artist of Little Lavas, which is under hiatus for a major overhaul.
-> I'm also currently working in Magical Mishaps as the shader and probably the future artist.
-> There's also Ocean of Fire; though rather inactive, I did color a few horses.

Little Lavas(new lineart, color and shade): [X] [X] [X]
Magical Mishaps(shading): [X] (only one posted, as the others have yet to be grown)
Oceans of Fire(color and shading): [X] [X] [X]

Misc, 100% my work: [X] [X] [X] [X] [X] [X]

How can I get in contact with you?
- AIM, email or PM. Any of the three would be fine with me ^^
Fun! biggrin I might have to try and draw some fish.
Fill out the form thinger so I can see what you can do! You don't need to have a sketch before you apply.
