From apartments to mansions...
Dingy room number 317 is now little more than the shadow of memory. The kat and her brood have taken up residence elsewhere -- a bed and breakfast no longer in business, changed now to a manor of sorts. Tucked away in a spare bedroom there lingers a cluttered nightstand...
...and lying between glasses half-filled with soda and scraps of unimportant lists and notes is a journal. Emerald green in color, leatherbound and tied with a slender, golden key on thread, it is within this little book that the cat-girl Jessie records her adventures with her fenthry -- minute creatures born of feather and love.

Jessie-kat, properly Jessica Felidae and more commonly known as The Kat or J-chan, is a very rare sight in Gaia -- completely human, without a trace of magical ability or animalistic traits, unless you count the plush kitty ears and tail which seem to be a consistent part of her wardrobe. She considers herself a mother to Tenera and Viridis, and while Jessie is flighty and scatter-brained, she has proven to be a very adept guardian indeed.
Marushii is Jessie's sister, although the genetics involved -- a human, siblings with something of a kitsune/deer/persocom -- are a little too dense to decipher. Marushii also owns a Fenthry, and lived next door to her sister when Jessie still lived in the apartment complex; now, however, the wall has been torn down between the two rooms, and Maru graciously inhabits both. The two own a plot of land in the country, where Marushii keeps horses and J-chan keeps big cats.
Owyln has become a closer part of Jessie's life than she would have ever previously realized. Something of a man crossed with a cat -- or possibly a bear? -- he owns the bed and breakfast where the kitty-girl and her brood now take up residence; the romance between the two has gone unspoken for a while now, although that may soon change...
D-chan Spiro is another of Jessie's dearest friends -- truthfully, she has claimed the coveted spot of "best friend" in J-chan's secret opinion. Something of a fox girl, D also owns fenthry, but as she lives out in the forest is a rare visitor -- that isn't to say that the kitty-girl isn't willing to take the occasional hike to see her best fluffy-foxy friend, however.
<center>
</center>
Tenera is Jessie's first fenthry. Due to her mother's depression early in her childhood, Tenera's social skills are rusty at best, and she is often at a loss for proper methods of communication and behavior. Her interests include drawing and collecting baubles, which she insists are inspiring and beneficial to her artsy work.
Viridis is Jessie's second fenthry. The kitty-girl adopted him as a sibling for Tenera, in the desperate hope that he would help to ease the elder creature's loneliness and be a good companion. He's turned out to be more of a challange than she would have first believed, however; a technology-geek with a penchant for destroying mechanical things, it's a wonder Owlyn hasn't yet tossed them out of the house for Viri's once rewiring of the refrigerator alone.
Molly belongs to J-chan's dear friend, Owyln. While Tenera is fond of Molly, there seems to be a legitimate gap between the two fenthry -- Molly is nigh fluent in French, and Tenera... well... isn't. Their recent residency together seems to have mended some of this gap; hopefully they'll turn out to be better friends than before. Viridis doesn't seem to care much for Molly, and J-chan does whatever she can to separate the two, since the little techno-geek tends to be rather cruel with taunts and the like.
Kurenai and Koe are two sibling fenthry that belong to a similar friend of the family, a fox-girl by the name of Dani. Tenera is unfamiliar with either of them, but -- being so fond of Dani -- still regards them as friends, if slightly tenuous ones. Viridis has not yet reached an opinion, since he hasn't really met either.
Kaji and Maya are Tenera's cousins of sorts, belonging to her aunt Marushii. Tenera regards Maya nearly as a little sister of her own, and Kaji... Kaji makes her heart go pitter-patter, although she is disinclined to reveal such private information and would go to great lengths to punish those who did. Viridis is annoyed by Maya and Kaji alike, although secretly he harbors affectionate feelings for the aqua dancer, he hasn't yet figured out how to express them without looking like a total moron.
<center>
When one charades as a cat, pets are -- of course -- a given.
Most of these pets are, at their largest, the size of a house-cat; the others reside at the sisters' co-owned share of land and are visited weekly.
J-chan has come to regret an earlier vow to herself to rid the house of any pets who find it difficult to peacefully coexist with little fenthry -- moving P-chan, her pet kitsune, to the countryside to live with a farmhand was one of the hardest things she has ever done. But...
Tenera and Viridis are more than worth it.

Kitty-girls must own kitties, and Tip, Tick, and Tock fit the bill perfectly. Visitors should take care not to trod upon the tails or feet of any of these precocious felines, lest they find themselves the brunt of some heinous plot... because really, what better things have three cats to do with themselves?</center>

J-chan, unfortunately, has yet to purchase anything for her own Fenthry... but it seems her friends are doing all that for her, showering her with gifts of every shape and size and sort! D'aww, can't you feel the warmth and fuzziness?

.: Owyln's Illustrations :.
</center>
Jessie's apartment came with horrid, dark curtains, fit for only an old woman; immediately she decided to replace them, and bought these. However, they were not destined to last long, for P-chan ruined them that very afternoon.
<center>
</center>
Jessie's journal, in all of its emerald-green leatherbound glory! Much love to the Owyln!
<center>
.: Jessie's Stuff :.
</center>
Not long after Jessie had written in her journal expressing worry that, because her sister's Fenthry was showing more signs of life than hers, perhaps she was doing something wrong, the kitty-girl discovered this note slipped under her door -- from Louhi, head of the Fenthry Preservation Society. Wonder how Louhi knew...<center>
</center>
Just after Tenera's birth, J-chan received in the mail a mysterious package without a return address, and after some consternation and with lingering misgivings, she opened it to discover a free cellphone pre-programmed with the other Society members' numbers. How strange...<center>

.: Tenera's Possession(s) :.
</center>
Tenera's very first real possession, a lovely minute bunny plush from Louhi. Nicknamed Dee, the little plushie has long since been tucked away, as Tenera puts aside childish things... but the little plush rabbit still holds a special place in the fen's heart.
<center>

</center>
Purchased by her aunt Marushii and presented to her as gifts by Kaji and Maya, Tenera treasures these art supplies as she has no other -- especially those toted by Kaji... keeping them tucked away to the inside of her collection's dingy shoebox, Jessie often questions her furry daughter, only to be refused answers. Ahh, teenage love...<center>

.: Viridis's Loot :.
</center>
A gift from his aunt Marushii, this little Siamese cat plushie has been nicknamed Jay -- as in, the letter, since at the time of its presentation Viridis couldn't fully pronounce his mother's name. And indeed, the resemblance is somewhat striking... except that the plush's eyes are blue where J-chan's are green.<center>
</center>
This lovely teddy bear was a gift to Viridis from Owlyn; while it doesn't have a name -- asides from 'Bear' -- it does have a constant place at the little fenthry's side, especially as he's trying to fall asleep. Its fur pattern is eerily similar to Viri's own -- perhaps that's why he likes it so much?<center>

.: Shared Things :.

</center>
Just after meeting and briefly discussing where they would be keeping their fenthries, Owlyn left for J-chan a tiger-striped book. Tenera and Viridis both were once kept in it -- at least occasionally; usually Viri was strung on a necklace and Tenera was tucked behind one plush cat ear.
While Jessie was going out to get the mail, she somehow ended up visiting her sister next door; while she was there, D-chan arrived and assaulted her, presenting her with this disc of lullabies and other sweet music. While Tenera has long since outgrown lullabies, instead choosing Enya to which she falls asleep, Viridis likes them well enough... when he isn't jamming to some techno beat.

Mysterious Package
Very mysteriously you receive a box in the mail…inside the box is a wrapping for the latest Mobile phone in a different colour along with a little tags that went to one side of the top. There’s a note inside:
‘Hi…just wanting to say to everyone who owns a Fenthry that…this way we can all keep in touch, its got everyone else’s phone number and a top up card for about 30 pounds enclosed, enjoy’ But it doesn’t contain a name of who sent it.

Mini-Event! GASP!
While you were out, it appears that someone has left a package on your doorstep. Eagerly, you tear off the plain, brown wrapping to reveal...

A stuffed animal! It is eleven inches long, from its "chest" to the tip of its tail. To the shoulder, it is about four inches -- perfect for a Fenthry to play "horsey" with! The "mane" of the horse is soft, yet a slight tug on it reveals it to be strong and sturdy. Another tug at the wings reveals those to be strong and sturdy as well... Enough so that to "flap" the wings, you would have to push down very hard. There is also a space between the wings -- room enough to create, say, a small bed?
Beneath the plush, there is a small tag:
For some reason, you can't shake the feeling that it's a... promo item of some kind. Oh well.

Hey, you said you were gonna keep yours on the tv?..well just incase you changed your mind, saw this and thought you might like one- Owyln

D-chan Spiro
. . . In her hands is a CD case with a hand-drawn and colored cover, covered in pastel feathers and shadowy angel forms. The art is neat and dark, and the coloring a bit childish but still nice to look at. Another dark blush comes onto the fox-girl's cheeks.
"Well...I found the case and the CD--it's full of lullabys and nice little songs, just so you know--but it didn't have a cover, so I made one. And I made it a book like in the normal CDs, and put in the lyrics, too. I hope you and Tenera like it."

My little Tenera, before I persuaded her from her feather!

It took some work, but eventually Tenera began to trust me and emerged from her feather-form -- while I was at the shop, no less! heart

Seemingly overnight, my Tenera has grown from a child into a young adult. She's speaking in full, coherent sentences, but seems subdued and withdrawn, turning to the arts in order to express herself... I've done something wrong with her upbringing, I know it.

In an attempt to thwart Tenera's obvious loneliness (the cats just weren't doing it, unfortunately and obviously enough), I adopted her a younger sibling. Okay, okay, I admit it... we both fell for him when we seen him in the glass display.

His emergence apparently stimulated by the "magnetic aura" (so claims Tenera) of an old computer I picked up from a pawn shop, Viridis has finally shown himself to be just as pretty as I thought he would be. Too bad his name (meaning "green" in Latin) doesn't quite fit anymore...
</center>
06.13.04 : Bought Tenera this morning, and met a new friend, Owyln! heart Marushii also got a Fenthry, but she hasn't named hers yet...
06.14.04 : Tenera moved! And whispered!
06.16.04 : As I was visiting the Fenthry Preservation Society HQ, Tenera decided it was time and emerged from her feather! She's such a beautiful little girl, I can't believe how lucky I am...
(( 07.01.04 : Have come down in real life with some sort of cold, going on semi-hiatus (will try to manage a post or two here or there) until I get over it. Shouldn't be more than a few days, a week at absolute tops. ))
07.09.04 : Not sure when it happened... Seemingly overnight, Tenera has grown into a young adult. What sort of parent am I? I hardly noticed the transition...
(( 07.12.04 : Took a little longer than I expected, but I'm back now, for good. 3nodding Gifts of comforting hugs and chai tea would still be appreciated, however. ))
07.17.04 : I purchased for Tenera a little brother! He is an adorable little blue and green feather, with a ripple (though Louhi called it a "bulls eye" wink pattern.
07.21.04 : While I was messing around with an old computer I picked up at a pawn shop, Viridis emerged from his feather! Tenera suggested perhaps the little device was somehow magnetic (she claimed she felt an odd aura from it)... I wonder if that's true?
08.??.04 : Can't remember exactly when, but Tenera, Viridis, and I all moved in with Owyln, the boy I met when I first found out about the fenthry.
08.20.04 : Owyln proposed to me. I accepted and -- OH MY GOD I'M GETTING MARRIED! eek
(( 09.01.04 : Wtf? This morning my Photobucket account decided to start wigging out... moving important signature images to a temporary host, but this thread is too graphics-intensive to do that, so they'll have to stay broken for a short while until I can get it fixed/find out what's wrong. Sorry for the inconvenience. ))

Yo~oh, busy day today...
I meant to make an entry earlier this evening, but forgot; there's so much to do around here now, even though Tenera's still just a feather! I bet the workload will double once I can entice her from her fluffy hidey-hole. The lady I got her from said some evil sorceress had imprisoned her and the other Fenthry in the forms of feathers, and with love and acceptance, Tenera and her -- siblings? Friends? The other Fenthry, anyway, would emerge from the feathers!
Admittedly Tenera was a little expensive but... Oh! Speaking of which, Tenera is Latin for "soft," which I thought made a fitting name for something borne from a feather. Marushii, my sisser, refused to name hers -- she got one, too, a male (how could the lady tell?) that was red and orange and gold and light blue, like a flame. Marushii said she wanted to name it Phoenix, but was going to wait until she seen what he looked like before she made that decision. I wonder if she's right; what if Tenera doesn't like her name? I guess I'll just have to wait and see; maybe if she really hates it, I can change it...
At the shop, I met a nice boy. His name's Owlyn, and he was off in a corner by himself, acting real shy -- I remember feeling similar, so I decided to try cheering him up... Marushii said I was being too forward, but his hair was messy, so I had to give him pigtails. He forgot to take them out before he left, and even said he was going to meet someone! I hope they're really understanding...
After Owlyn left, Marushii dragged me off home to our apartment, but I wanted to do a bit of shopping first -- I wanted to get a new CD for Tenera, maybe Enya or something similarly intellectual and inspiring (I want her to be writery, like me!), but I couldn't find any... I picked up some batteries instead. When I got home, there was a parcel in my letter box -- Owlyn had stopped by and left me a book!
At the shop we'd discussed where we were going to keep our Fenthry; I said on top of the TV, so she could maybe absorb intelligence (how? o.O), and he said something about books -- I'd made a mental note there to pick one up, but I guess he bought me one instead. It's a nice book, some sort of animal encyclopedia... I laid it open on my desk and placed Tenera's feather on one of the pages and read to her.
I felt sorta stupid reading to a feather... But if there's really a creature inside, I suppose it's for the best!
P-chan didn't really like Tenera, and neither did Tap or Tick or Tock, but... they'll have to get over it. P-chan's curled up in bed next to me now; I think the light's annoying her, so I'm going to turn it off and go to sleep.
I've slipped Tenera inside my nightshirt, so she'll be close to my heart... I wonder if she's calmed by my heartbeat? Or maybe I'm just anthropizing a feather too much ... ....

Or maybe I'm just anthropizing a feather too much ... ....

06.14.04
I know it's awfully early for me to be writing again, but... Big news! I think Tenera's starting to show some signs of life!
I took a drive into town today, and I took her with me... being careful not to snap the shaft (feathers are so fragile), I threaded her through the buttonhole of my jacket. I've considered sticking her behind my ear, but the thoughts of the songs Marushii would sing to me ('Yankee Doodle,' anyone?) killed that idea before it even started.
And... maybe I'm just imagining things...
I thought Tenera moved.
It was when I was standing in line to purchase my cat food and litter and chips, and I was admiring the fact that someone was standing outside selling music albums and thinking that I'd have to go take a look... and there was this tiny little twitch, rustling the fabric of my jacket. I thought I heard a whisper of.. something...
...I couldn't be imagining it, could I?
Anyway, I went out and checked out the guy selling CDs, and come to find out he had not one but three Enya albums! I bought them all and played 'Wild Child' on repeat while I drove home.
At least, I thought I'd drive home. Instead, I took a detour to the park.
There were some kids playing baseball, some I knew from similar sports I'd played with them on my days off... They wanted to know what the feather was for, and when I told them, they laughed me off. I guess it is a rather far-fetched idea, creatures suspended in feather-form and all, but... I think...
Magic is too hard to find in this world... I want to believe in it where it exists.
So I sat and talked with Tenera, much to the dismay of the boys (who just said I was losing it and resumed playing), discussed with her how I want to be a writer and how I don't think I have the ... STUFF for it; being a feather and all, she's a really good listener. I hope, though, that I'm not this wishy-washy when she emerges; that'd make me a bad mother.
I went home shortly thereafter and -- oh the phone is ringing! hold on
... It was Marushii, she called to check on Tenera... I guess hers has started humming and twisting into her hair... Maybe I should've put Tenera in mine, but my hair's so short...
Is Maru a better feather-owner than I am? Am I doing something wrong?

((Whoo, first ever RP post.))
Slipping her car keys into her pocket, J-chan laughs loudly at her newest visitor, drawing her apartment key from a separate pocket altogether. "Come now, I don't drive that bad, do I? I got the truck from a friend of the family... I work as a waitress on the weekends."
A jiggle of keys in the knob and the door swings open, revealing -- a spacious, scarcely cluttered living room, fit with several windows adorned with said gaudy curtains. "Ugh. See? They really do have to go." J-chan glances behind her, crossing the threshold -- "'Oi, Owlyn, are you coming? Hurry up!"

'im coming, im coming!'
Owyln shouted as he was holding the new curtains from outside the van, his face pale as a sheet from that little adventure out. he staggered towards the door though his sketchpad placed neatly ontop of the new silk curtins. He put a eyebrow up at the old ones though, they almost looked like the same ones his father had had in his darkroom bar the floral patterns, and he had always detested his fathers taste in fashion.
'where do you want them?'
he questioned managing to heave himself to the door.

The obnoxiously loud, overly cheerful whistling floating down the street betrays the approach of another friend of the new Fenthry owner. Tail flicking about, ears twitching, the fox girl stares at the apartment building with a mixture of pleasure and disbelief.
"Wow, she's got it good here, doesn't she?" With a careless shrug, the fox-girl pads up the stairs to the room she had come to visit. Upon seeing the open door, she smiles and bounces to the room. Poking her head around the doorframe, she smiles a cheery smile, black ears twitching in excitement.
"Hello, Jess-chan!!" Upon sight of a person she does not know, the fox-girl falls silent, her ears suddenly still. "Umm...hello..." Swallowing hard, the red furred teenager presents herself formally. "I'm D-chan Spiro, it's very nice to meet you." Even though she seems only slightly shy, her frantically twitching tail betrays her intense nervousness. "Umm...is Jess-chan here?"

'yeah shes just in the back, and im Owyln nice to meet you'
Owyln said with a slight nervous chuckle as normally this would be the point that he would shake hands but with his arms rather full with the curtain and his beloved scrap book there was a lot he could do bar give this girl a little nod. He stepped back though indicating for her to go in and almost giving her a friendly smile with the sort of look that said; i don't bite you know.
'sorry i forgot, im a fellow feathry owner, sorry not to say that you must think im some random stranger...'

Bounding over to the curtains, J-chan seizes a handful and begins tearing them down, seemingly failing to care whether or not she breaks the curtain rods in the process. To Owlyn's question, she waves an idle hand toward the desk whereupon sits his gift of book. "Wherever's fine, Owlyn!"
But upon the sound of D-chan's voice, the girl whirls on her heel, ochre jacket fluttering. "D-CHAN!!" Leaving the horrid floral curtains to hang dismally, half torn from their rod, Jessie bolts over to her foxy friend, nearly bursting with joy. "Oh D-chan, did I show you what I got?" A quick gesture smoothly slides Tenera from the buttonhole, and the kitty girl brandishes the pastel feather before the face of her friend, looking positively euphoric. "It'll grow into a creature of some sort, D! It's called a... a... Fenthry and --"
A glance to Owlyn, still standing with his arms full of scrapbook and curtain and shiny rod, and Jessie snickers despite herself, putting her nose to her sleeve. "And this is Owlyn, though I'm sure he's introduced himself already. He offered to help me put up my new curtains. Have you seen the old ones? They're disgusting."

Owyln treads in carefully setting the new curtains down underneath the old tattered ones, now hanging half on and half off the rod. he nodded towards both girls before gently resting his large scrapbook down onto the side board next to the tiger striped book he had gotten his new friend. he though brought his hands to rest onto his hips watching the pair of them with an almost amused smile, his long floppy blue hair whisping over his eyes as he stood there laiden with thought for those few seconds.
'you have a point...the old ones look really awful'
he said nodding as he decided to leave the pair of them to chat before walking up towards the curtain neatly sliding the curtain pole out of its fastenings at the top of the wall. He smiled at his work slipping the shiny rod of the new one up before grabbing the nearest screwdriver, a few nails fastenings held within his teeth as he got to work.

D-chan stares at the old curtains in ill-disguised disgust. "Good grief, now I know why you're tearing them down! We can't have a fenthry growing up with horrid floral patterned curtains, can we?" With a tiny, soft cooing sound she runs one black-furred finger over the soft shafts of the feather. She glances back at Owyln and smiles, seeming a bit less nervous now.
"Need a hand with those?" She slides over to him and carefully takes the material that is the new curtain, leaving him with the book and the shiny rod. She looks at the new curtain, smiling at it. "Very nice choice, Jess-chan." Again she stares at the old curtains hanging where the kat had left them, she seems to ponder for a moment.
"Hey, Jess-chan, do you mind if I take the old curtains? I might be able to do...something...with them." The sound of her mind turning over various ideas is nearly audible.

At her friend's request, J-chan makes a disgusted face, unable to keep the corners of her mouth from perking up the slightest bit -- it was so hard to even feign anything but happiness surrounded by friends like this! "Sure," she snickers, sliding over to hinder Owlyn and D-chan in their curtain-fixing work as best she could. "Though I don't see why... they're ugly."
With this thought in mind, slowly shifting to an idea of pouncing D and hugging the fuzziness right into her, J-chan removes Tenera from her buttonhole and slides her gently behind her (real, human) ear instead. Just... in case of any accidents.
Like glomping. Or rabid hugging.
"'Oi, Owlyn, want a stepladder? I think I have one in the bedroom somewhere, I'm pretty sure it's holding my goldfish." rolleyes
