READ THE WHOLE POST (quotes and responses is optional), OR DON'T BOTHER POSTING AT ALL.
I know there are a lot of Cannabis threads around, but I'm more interested in something else this time.
What is it exactly that makes you think its bad? This isn't so much a discussion of why it should be legal or why it is or isn't harmful. I just want to know WHERE you learned about Marijuana, was it commercials on TV? In high school? or did your parents tell you its bad?
I ask this because I see so many "Pot is bad, Pot is unhealthy for you" but no one really says why or where it was they obtained this information.
So please share, even if you are for Marijuana, tell me where you first learned of the "dangers" of pot.
Keep it civil, use punctuation so people can read your posts and explain thoroughly.
My own explanation:
Having grown up around my parents smoking pot, I was already aware of what it really was and how it affected people. I guess the first time really "learning" about Marijuana was in school, probably 4th or 5th grade when the whole D.A.R.E. campaign and such was popular, they showed us videos about it and how it caused immense crime and personality changes. It was always shown with other hard drugs like Heroine and Cocaine, I noticed a lot of people bought into it, I never could though and was often dismayed by what was told about it, having seen it in my life daily. I choose to learn more about it over time, even asking my mom for information. Eventually I came to the conclusion I have now, that Marijuana is a VERY low risk drug, that is even less harmful and damaging socially than Alcohol.

The reason I created the thread.. Because a lot of people dont even know where they learned about Marijuana or WHY they think its bad. Society has simply bashed Marijuana so much that people are afraid to learn or speak out about it.
My blanket response on Marijuana as a gateway drug:
Marijuana does not make you desire to try other drugs, in fact I think the reason people try others is because THE GOVERNMENT LIES about Marijuana and its affects. People try pot and think, hey this isn't anything like what school taught me, I don't go crazy, maybe other drugs are the same way. This is one of my strongest reasonings on why Marijuana should be legalized (which we wont get into).
Lying about things is always going to have adverse affects, people will eventually find out and want to know what else is a lie.

You know, for the longest time I had this negative opinion about marijuana, but this thread got me thinking, and I cannot remember where I heard it was bad, or why I felt that way.
Most people probably either learned all their information through DARE or anti-drug commercials, which lump pot in with other things that actually ARE dangerous, exaggerate, or just lie or misrepresent marijuana. Or they heard it from their parents/teachers/other adults who are merely spewing the DARE facts THEY were told as children, and the cycle begins anew.
I've noticed that those who believe pot to be safe, or at least relatively harmless, can provide a lot more proof in their favor than those who oppose marijuana or think it's bad, simply because they are only basing their opinions on propaganda or other things they've been told.
