An Eventful Week


Sushi, our newest database server has gone on the fritz many time this week, causing chaose for the users. We've gotten updates, donation releasals, and problems, all in the same week!

Newer outfits were released earlier this week, the Hipster and GETAGrip outfits, located in different parts of Durem. On top of that, the Gaia Headband, and the Kitsune mask were released as our newest donation items this month. Hackings and the incidents of last week and the week before seemed to have calmed down, but now Sushi, our newest database went on the fritz.

Sushi's been causing all kinds of errors, the best thing for you to do is to refresh the page until sushi lets you in. Please, bear with us and the admins until the problem is fixed, which I'm sure it will be soon, Gaia just needs a little bit of rest.

We also got our wonderful new guild system installed last week which allows a user to create a guild that is a forum. You can have your own moderators, stickies, announcements, etc.

With all the new updates in store for us, what could be next? Gaia fishing perhaps? The awaited mini-game that VO has advertised in his signature, and that L0cke says is coming soon?! I can't wait, how about you?

  • Gaia online had moved to a new database handling system on the 14th so we can scale up and meet the demands of our growing community. Unfortunately, even after testing, the new database system still had bugs which caused some severe damage to the many user's accounts. Most of the major bugs had been fixed, however the only way to restore the thousands of damaged accounts is to perform a rollback. As of this morning, everyone's account had been rolled back to their original state as of July 14th, 2:30pm. We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience that this might have caused. For those who had lost items or gold, please note the following:
    • Donation items - All donation items lost during the rollback period will be automatically recovered

    • Store items - Gold will be recovered to users who bought items from the stores during the rollback period through automatic scripting also. Due to the large number of transactions being made, we cannot gaurantee that everyone's gold will be fully recovered.

    • Items traded - Please contact the owner of the item and trade again if you have lost a traded item.
    Thank you for your attention. As of 10:30pm today, all user gold that were spent at the stores and salon had been recovered. All mail donation items had been restored also. If you had received a donation item during the rollback period but have not yet received your item, please write to us again through the feedback form. We'll respond to your problem ASAP. 3nodding

  • Hi everyone! ^^ Once again, we have updated with two new hairstyles in the Durem salon and two new sets of clothing in the clothing stores. Check them out! We hope you like them! ^O^

  • Dear Users,
    The Hipster shades problem has been fixed. Apparently, some files were uploaded to the wrong place but now it's all good to go. Sorry for the inconvenience. sweatdrop

  • The Gaia Guild Network has been released! You can now create, maintain, and moderate your own forums. To get to the Gaia Guild Network, visit Barton, and click on the bottom left building. Please be sure and read the FAQ to get the most out of the Gaia Guild Network. Enjoy! whee

  • the gaia friendslist is ready!. the friendslist is a way to integrate a lot of the features current and upcoming throughout the site. through the friendslist you have two lists, one list of your "friends" and a list of "ignored". these lists will follow you through the site.
    you can access your friendslist from your profile (the first nav button in the top banner). details about the navigation within the friendslist is as follows:

    • Friends
      from when you first get there, you have the ability to add friends by username (or user ID, if you know that) from the form on the top right hand side of the page. just type in the username and click "Add to Friends". when you add someone to your friendslist, they will be notified with an avatar bubble the next time they refresh a page, which will take them directly to their "approvals" page. they then have the option of approving your request, or denying it.

    • Ignored
      the ignore list works the same way for adding users to it, by username or user ID, but with one major difference. adding someone to your ignorelist is automatic, without authorization required.

    • Approvals
      the approval list is basically what it sounds like. it's a list of people who have requested you on their friendslist, and you have the options to approve or deny them. if you approve them, you are added immediately to their list. after the approval, you will get a confirmation that everything happened correctly, and you will have a link to add the person(s) that you just approved to your friendslist. (if they are not already there). if you deny the request, the request is removed from the system. if someone repeadly asks to be on your friendslist, and you don't want to hear from them anymore, add them to your ignore list.

    • Pending
      is your outgoing requests that have not been approved yet. from this list, you have the option of reminding people that you sent the request, or removing the request. you can only send one reminder every 24 hours. when you remind them, it sends them a PM telling them about the request. if you remove a request from your pending list, they will no longer see the request.

    • Search
      you can search for any user, by just about any string. to perform a search for a specific user, type the username. if you are unsure of the username, you can use a wildcard (*) for searching. for example, to find all users with 'John' at the beginning of their username, you would search for 'john*'. the search is not case sensitive. from the results, you can pick who you were looking for, and add them to your friends list, or ignore list. through your friendslist, you can quickly see which of your friends are online, link to their stores, PM them, and see their profiles, with more options to be added soon. the friendslist has it's own settings... in your user's profile, you can set the Always show my Email Address, Hide your online status, & Allow Private Messages setting have the option of only friends.

    • Allow Private Messages
      is a new option in your profile. the way it works is that if you set it to "No" you will no longer receive any PM's from anyone (other than the Gaia staff & moderators). by default, it is set to "yes" for all current users. if you set it to "only friends" you will only get PMs from people on your friendslist.

    • forum tie-in
      the friendslist also gets into the forums. any users that are on your friendslist will have their name highlighted in blue, and any people on your ignore list will have their name grayed out, and their avatar "ghosted".

    • mail tie-in
      a new option will become active once you start your friendslist, but in the mail system. when starting a new message, you have the option of send to friendslist. clicking this button, will put "friends@gaia" in the username field. this will then send the message that you compose to *everyone* on your friendslist. you can also send to multiple users on your friendslist, by typing in their names, seperated by commas. this will only work for users who are *currently* on your friendslist, and will not work for users who are not.

    • profile tie-in
      if you view any user's profile, there is a new field that has been added. if the user that you are looking at is currently on your friendslist, then it will say so, and if not, you will see the same Add to Friends and Add to Ignored buttons that are found within the friendslist. due to the nature of the friendslist, and how much it reacts with the rest of the site, at this time, there is a limit of 100 users on your friendslist. during testing, large friendslists degraded the site, and caused very slow load times. there may be a purchasable or questable upgrade to this in the future, but at this time, it is a fixed limit. also, friendslist groups have been suggested as a add-on feature, but will not be implimented due to the same limitations.

    • new design
      along with the friendslist, you may see some minor changes around the site, mainly... the smiley buttons. hope you enjoy!

    • friendslist update
      the friendslist was relying on the $HTTP_REFERER variable to process requests. due to user-side limitations such as personal firewalls & anti virus software, using this varaible reliably became a cause for concern. there were a somewhat large number of users who's security software was impeding them from using the friendslist at all, though they could use the entirety of gaia. so, i made the appropriate changes. unfortunatly a few of the automated functions (Move from Friends to Ignored & Move from Ignored to Friends) had to be disabled, because they required the user to click on customized links, and not form submit buttons, which would have passed normal form variables. the friendslist should now be working in its entirety, with a re-worked new feature for accepting friendslist requests: you now have two options for accepting. Accept Request and Accept & Add. they work for one user request at a time, and work as the buttons suggest they do. if anyone continues to have any problems, please let us know via the sticky that will be in Questions & Feedback.

    We are currently debugging a new database system which will allow for a smoother and faster Gaia in the future. During this time, we are experiencing connection errors associated with the install of the new system. These problems are not caused by the introduction of the friendslist or the guild system, nor have the introduction of these features delayed the fixes on the database system. Please be assured that we are working as fast and as hard as possible to remedy these problems in a timely fashion. As it a full fix date cannot be pinpointed until we determine the exact nature of the problems, we will let you know as soon as the problems are fixed in the announcements.   • Unfortunately the new software is having trouble working with the web servers. Lots of work are being done to get things running smoothly so we can release the guild and friendslist features. Please pardon the slowness while we have the problems figured out.The new software we installed seemed to be causing a lot of problems. Many apologies for the constant outages. I've been doing everything trying to have things running ASAP and the new features should be up in no time. sweatdrop

  • After a 40 hour battle looks like everything stablized. It's just tough luck on my part that the power went out right between all the chaos. Basically, the new software didn't work right, causing extra load, the extra load caused more power consumption, which blew the circuit for the cabinet. After hours of rescue we uploaded the new database code that will allow us to create a dedicated user database server next month, and that code broke something which caused the posting errors and more database errors. >.< Darknrgy is taking a break so the guild system will be delayed for a few days until he comes back. Meanwhile, we'll be expanding on the friendslist features tomorrow, and possibly the topics subscription feature.

  • Been working as fast as I can to get various issues resolved. most link related problems with avatar delete and creation, duplicate post error, rare item event bugs, friendslist notification error had just been fixed, and vending should be back online also. Currently working on event related bugs, then I'll work on restoring items and gold caused by the rollback. 3nodding Again, apologies for the rollback and lost of items that the problems had caused. sad

  • Just fixed the registration bug, sorry it took this long for me to notice the problem. sweatdrop Meanwhile, all donators who donated through paypal on the 14th and the 15th should have their items recovered now, and people who donated through regular mail will have their items recovered on Monday. I'm working on recovery gold and items for people who spent money at the stores during the rollback period. Hope most people who spent money can have their gold recovered.

  • Apologies for taking so long to repair the avatar server. First we had to slip in a brand new drive into the server, then there's a long, long wait time to copy existing avatars into the new drive, then we need to delete the old avatars. In between it all I was working on item recovery plus some security issues which kept delaying the repair for almost half an hour at a time. Now that the recovery and item updates are completed I can focus on the repair once again. Hope to have everything done before 2am. whee

  • Ran across another snatch before the avatar server is ready. The process should take no longer than an hour and a half at this point. whee The avatar system is finally back on-line. With 50 times the disk space we should be able to hold plenty of avatars for the next little while. Received 290 private messages while working on the avatar systems. Again, sorry to those who I can't respond to. If there are any matter that is urgent, please contact a moderator for assistance. Thank you. 3nodding

  • The bugfix for the new database system had been a long and enduring battle. After working non-stop for 6 days the problem is still here. One of the last effort of installing a brand new web server seem to have minimized the problem but we still need to monitor the performance of everything at this point. sweatdrop Meanwhile, other regular tasks such as updating the art arena and avatar spotlight had been delayed due to the bugs. Sorry for the delay. The lack of sleep had been making me work even slower it seemed. I'm hoping to see light at the other end of the tunnel, otherwise I'll be switching back to the old system if the problem cannot be resolved. sweatdrop

One aspect of the Q&F that is rarely touched upon, is the community that exists within the forum. Every week, I will write a bit of an article about the recent week, and what effect it had on the Q&Fers as a group.

The views expressed here are my own, and are not necessarily the beliefs of the rest of the Q&F paper staff, Q&Fers as a whole, or the Gaian populace. Occassionally, they may not even be my own.

There's No Place like Home

Gaia's new feature, the Gaian Guild Network, has allowed for numerous wonderful opportunities for the Gaian populace. With an entire forum to work with, many of your standard guilds have become veritable communities of their own. I myself have been active in 13 different guilds, and the spectrum of what ways they use the feature are dizzying. From Small hidden hangouts, to large organizations, the guilds leave nothing to be desired.

...And in that I have discovered a problem.

Many forums have lost their regulars to the GGN. Whether it is to play mod, to insure the success of the guild, or just to get away, many forums have suffered as a result. There is a guild for nearly every forum, and in them users discuss the ins and outs of the forum, and what they like and dislike about it. I myself have neglected my cherished home while exploring the GGN.

And while I know that the elitism, or seclusion, is fun, I had to remember that that is not why I come to Gaia every day. And while I know that the regs are not all there is to a forum, they help lay the groundwork for the future.

But please remember, there is a place you came from. A place that existed before guilds. A place you called home. Don't let these places become something of memory. They are your roots, they are what made you the Gaian you are today.

Just remember, all things in moderation. biggrin

just a littel report on what all went wrong ^_^</CENTER>

A lot went wrong these days, a bit too much to talk about here. So I decided to talk about it a little.

Valgav allready talks about the rollback, so that leads me to the lag biggrin

It appeared that when I was asleep, dreaming about puppies, epic battles and my dog being taken over by aliens, whenafter I had to save him. (dont ask) There was a horrible ammount of lag.

So when I came to my computer Sunday morning, it appeared that there were a total of about 100 topics unanswered.
I was shocked, untill it came to me.

People noticed that their posts didnt show up, so they decided to go to the questions and feedback to ask what the hell was going on. They just forgot one little thing.....Their posts also didnt show up in here.

And by the time they *did* show up, they allready were on page 9-ish.

Luckily for most of them, I came around to answer a few. I let the ones about "hey there is lag!" be where they were, because by the time they saw their answer, there allready was no lag anymore.

So, while I was answering those left-over-questions, gaia went down twice for about 5 minutes. Luckily the site recovered itself biggrin . After the second time, gaia became "under maintainance". It made me realize that on the other side of the oceal and across one continent a little asian man was working hard to fix the site.

Luckily mister Lanzer did it well. And now there is only little lag biggrin .

And then there were problems with the bank, appearantly there was lag over there as well. And since people were scared they'd loose their gold/items they also asked in the QF. I could never find out a real good answer, so I suggested to them to just wait, and see if it would come through eventually. I hope I did the right thing. If someone like Jakobo or Rayquazza or some other genius (I mean it fellers, you are a genius 3nodding ) Could explain it to me, please PM me.

so that was my little experience in a answering frenzy I had.

then there was that girl who changed gender, and then tried to preview a pair of panties in the store. Since there was lag, the store wasnt up to date, so it turned out being a male avatar, with a bra and panties. After I digged it up, it made some people laught, or so I read.

Its rather interesting that parts of the avatar are different sort of pictures, we had a good laught with the new hairstyles, when there was no hair at all showing up in your profile. Finally we could all be bald. sort of.....

Now that avatars have different parts, loading seperated from eachother, it is easier for the admins to put in new hairstyles, and later on, new eyestyles and so on biggrin

Anyloo, a little list:

  • If your posts arent showing up, WAIT. do not ask what it is, because its just lag. Give it some time biggrin
  • The same goes for PMs, trades and the market place, give it some time, and handle with caution.
  • There are some odd bugs going on, to which no one knows a sollution, usually refreshing or trying over and over helps confused Do not fear, it can happen to all of us confused .

I've been questing a long time now for mini wings. But I'm still so far away! I tried posting a thread in the charity forum, but no one donates. I can't donate for letters, and I just don't know what to do. Any advice of how to earn gold?

Dear Wish,

Lots of things you can do! I'll list as many as I can think of, and maybe it will give you some ideas.

  • posting (of course)
  • look for people having an inventory sale for cheap deals
  • open a shop in the exchange to sell your wares
  • draw well? try doing avatar portraits or even breedables!
  • some stores will donate for you, in exchange for gold. Letters are worth lots in the future.
  • try some lottos, or even run your own!
  • make a signature banner (with link) to let others know you're questing.
  • have you checked out the charity assosiations?
  • stay focused! don't buy that pimpin hat ! think wings!~

I hope this helps! Don't give up, I'm sure wings are in your future!

So whats it like being a Moderator?
It's a very different experience. Having done moderation on a few other high traffic sites, I thought Gaia wouldn't be too bad. On the contrary, moderating Gaia is a one-of-a-kind experience. It's fast, you get hit left and right with questions in PM, but in the end it's a lot of fun.

Do you have a job outside of Gaia? What is it?
My job title is a bit too long to type out. >_< I do web development for the Homeland Security Digital Library Project at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. The nicer translation is: I make shiny things for the Internet. sweatdrop

What got you into the job of Moderation for Gaia Online?
Who got me into being a mod? Actually, I don't know if any one person was resposible- it just well, happened.

Other than your job, what do you do outside of Gaia?
Well, I work with a group called Kaizoku-Fansubs that subtitles Japanese Animation, I play volleyball (DS in a 5-1 for the curious), and am involved with several California based anime conventions.

You sound like a very busy person. What do you do for Anime Conventions?
A lot of it depends on the convention. With RECCACon (March), I head up Convention Operations, providing infrastructure and a backbone of support for the staff. With Fanime (May), I help out by staffing the cosplay masquerade. for a couple other cons, I just try and keep a low profile and not volunteer too much of my time. smile

Whats your favorite item on Gaia?
My favorite all time item is probably the Portable Stereo Headphones, though I would probably long for an iPod to go with it. My most precious Gaian item is my Angelic Scarf- given to me by a fellow moderator. Had I actually joined Gaia back when I first came across it, the scarf would have been my first donation item, so it's very important to me.

Whats your favorite part of Gaia?
The free sushi everywhere you turn. The page just keeps giving it to you! Seriously though, my favorite part of Gaia is the community. I've met quite a few really cool people through Gaia, and I'm sure I will meet quite a few more.

Least Favorite?
Can I give the community as an answer here as well? sweatdrop Probably the least favorite part for me is getting messages or seeing new threads when there is a sticky or announcement posted addressing that exact issue. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful they are PMing an online moderator with the question, but a bit more research would definitely cut down on the stress.

Do you think Lanzer needs more sleep? gonk
Yes! Yes he does! As a programmer, I know what it's like to burn the midnight oil. As the night wears on, it gets harder to solve problems, and it takes longer to code- yet you hate giving up. So yes, he needs more sleep, but I doubt anything we could say or do would change that. biggrin

What did you say when you were first asked to become a moderator?
When I was asked, I remember paling at least 3 shades, and almost outright denying it. Between you, me, and whoever reads this, I really hate attention and being noticed, so I was a bit scared of the idea of being at the bottom of the list. On an aside, this is also why I didn't want my name purple. As for my exact words, my housemate said there was a lot of "Oh ____". I'll leave you to select your favorite four letter words for that one.

Now that your a moderator, do you ever wish you were a regular user?
Sometimes, yes. I don't have a mule account or anything to hide behind, so when I'm out there on Gaia, I'm nothing more than myself. I have to admit, sometimes it would be nice to be "online" and not see the incomming tidal wave. smile

Finally, any juicy secrets from modville you can share with us?
There's a modville?! eek Why doesn't anyone tell me these things?! gonk

[b]Update Information ::
Here's all the information I have on all known future updates and features. If you know of any information not listed here, please contact me and let me know. ^^ Enjoy!
  • GAIA Online Beta Version - Expected in the fall, beta version will be the next stage of GAIA Online. This is the point where very few more features will be added. NOTE: There will be no inventory sweep with beta, you will keep all your items.
  • GAIA RPG - The GAIA RPG will come with beta. It will include the battle system, maps, NPC's, and quests. There has also been a storyline created for it, that explains the origin of the world of GAIA. Also, background has been made for the NPC's. Plus, special items are being made for use in the RPG, including Special items (nuts, bolts, wierd stuf) and Usable items (potions)!
  • Battle System - darknrgy is now working on the battle system. ^^ The battle system will let users battle eachother! There will be a large variety of attacks and skills, alongside classes for your character, such as rifleman. Also, each character will have stats. These stats will be affected by the items you're wearing! OoO If you don't want to battle, there'll be a feature to not fight. In development!
  • Weapons/Armor/RPG Clothes - Also with beta and the battle system, there will be items mad for use with battling! The most obvious is weapons. :3 There will be a large variety, including new and old styles of weaponry, plus some wierd ones like Whack-a-noodles. XD Also, there'll be armor to protect yourself with! If you don't want to be armor-clad, that's okay, because they'll have other fantasy/rpg/sci-fi outfits too. ^^
  • Back Wings - I'm sure many of you can't wait to get your hands on a nice pair of wings! Well, they're coming! Many users have heard that they'll be a prize from the casino, but they'll actually be the end result of a very, VERY hard special quest to get certain items (you won't be able to wear these items) and combine them to make the wings. ^^ This is so they'll be really special items, but available to a maximum of users.
  • Mini-Games/Casino - Lots of users have been asking about minigames, well here's some good news: they're being developed! The Casino, which is one of the more famous mini-games-to-be, will let users gamble their gold and have the chance to increase it! It should be here before beta. Also, there'll be GAIA Fishing, where you can...fish! Plus, it's suspected there'll be a mining mini-game. :0
    Expected Release Date: (GAIA Fishing Minigame) In development!
  • Group Quests - Besides the Back Wings quest, there will be special group quests! O.O In these you will be able to go on a quest with a bunch of friends! It's believed they'll be like scavenger hunts or missions. More fun for guilds! These will most likely be done through Gambino's Mansion. ^^
  • Character Houses - Another one of the upcoming features is character houses! You'll be able to establish your own home where you can buy furniture from special stores and decorate! It's thought that you'll be able to invite your friends in! There will also be rare furniture to find.
  • New Avatar Features - Avatars and items are being redrawn to fit different poses! While it has been confirmed that some are for weapons, will there be anymore...?
  • Purple Boxes - Yup, it's suspected there's going to be another event: Purple boxes! These events will produce a randomly generated item from GAIA Online. It can be anything, from Peasant Booties to an Angelic Halo! :O You will get them from completing a lengthly quest. ^.^ Note: The chances of getting a halo or any rare items will be extremely small. So small, you won't even notice a difference. So don't worry about the exchange flipping out. ^^;;
  • Special Items - There's going to be items that increase your gold growth and raise your chances of getting random events! :O
  • More NPC's - So Ian, Rufus, Sasha, Ruby, Peyo, Gino, Gambino, Agatha, Meredith, Vanessa, Moira, and Edmund aren't enough for you? That's okay, more are coming! ^^ Two have been confirmed, a miner named Reinhart and a pretty boy in Durem...who gives Ian a run for his money!
  • New Stores - What would GAIA be without it's stores? Well there's one reassuring fact: more are coming! One you can expect is a tattoo parlor!
  • Hair, hair, hair! - The salon will get two to four new hairstyles a month! ^^ Also, there'll be facial hair for guy avatars!
  • Soot faces...again? - In a discussion at AX one user talked with Lanzer about the future of soot faces...and it's likely they'll make another appearance! And how? Possibly the salon! If the soot faces are re-released, this should help sooth recent problems caused to soot faced users by avatar issues.
  • Transgender Items - In the future some items will be made for the opposite gender! These include Romani Glasses for girls and skirts for guys!
  • New Maps - By beta there will be 5-7 towns total! n_n That's 2-4 more than we currently have! Also, a new one will be developed containing the Journal's building & NPC! eek
  • Day & Night - GAIA will have it's own universal time! Thus, it's only fitting that it looks like it has one...so the maps will have day and night! ^^ Also, it's rumored that there might be weather too!
  • Pets - Pets have been something wanted on GAIA Online for a long time. ^^ It's still not really confirmed whether they'll be coming or not, but Ling stated maybe in the long run, with their own items! But not until waaaay into beta, and even then....
  • Instant Messenging - One handy feature being developed is instant messenging, where you'll be able to send short messenges to other users! Their avatar will replace yours one the top banner and a bubble will show their message, much like system messenges. ^^ This somehow goes hand-in-hand with the freindslist too.
  • GAIA Chatting - Some of you are probably aware that there used to be chatting on GAIA Online, but it was removed for a couple of reasons. It's being redone, and so you'll be able to chat with other Gaians! There'll also be personal chats, so you can talk with just your friends!
  • B-Day/Join-Day Events - Birthday/Join Date events don't look like a reality. ^^ But they've been discussed by the GAIA staff.

I admit, this is part of my webcomic, not Gaia, but it sure does make a point, does it not? I actually drew some of this last year. I don't have that spiked up, FF7 Cloud-like hairstyle anymore. I also don't draw my younger brother like that anymore either. The only one in this that still looks the same is Alberto. XD He's the guy in the first panel of the second line. He's known as Shazu around Gaia. Jordan also has an account, but he prefers to hide.

We've talked about a spell checker for IE, and we've shown you some great tools for FireFox including a right-click bbcode context menu. Probably one of the biggest questions asked in Questions & Feedback is about random sig generators. A different image every time you refresh the page. Undoubtedly, one of the most popular is Rome, but the Toolbox is all about self-empowerment. And so, this time, we are going to show you a 26 line file that will let you host your own random sig generator!

Mandatory Background Information
We're going to be working with PHP, a web based scripting language. If your host supports PHP, they will say so, and they will advertise it. Sites such as geocities and angelfire do not have php based hosting. Freewebs does not have PHP hosting. The only currently known free provider that has php based hosting is hostinganime.com (see link at top). We are not going to make you code anything in this thing either, but we are going to have you make a file and upload it. Here are some very basic rules:
- You need a text editor (Notepad, Textpad, Simpletext, KWrite, etc)
- You need a way to put the file we make on your host (FTP)

If you have both of these things, we are ready to begin. You will also want some images. (gif, jpg. or png)

Step 1: rand.php and uploading
No joke, this will be the hardest step. Open a text editor from the above list, and paste the following code, from <?PHP to the final ?>

Before you say it, yes, it is 35 lines, not 26. The longer lines were broken up for readability (and so they would copy correctly). Now that you have this all pasted in, save the file as rand.php somewhere you can find it (I recommend the desktop). Then, upload it into a directory on your web server.

While you are uploading, upload the images you would like to have randomized as well. Here's a picture of my directory:

Step 2: Using
See, I told you that would be the hard part. If you uploaded your rand.php and your images, you are done. Yes, done. To call the random sig, simply create an img tag pointing to rand.php. For example:

Drop that image tag into your sig, and you're done! And you didn't really have to lift a finger.

The Q&Fers Invade Avatar Talk

Dressed in beanies and plain black gloves, the Q&Fers made their way to Avatar Talk on July 22 to see what they could find.

The feild trip, organized by Wilhemina, was fun for everyone. All the Q&Fers were supposed to track down one of the sneaky natives, and study their habits, and see what was thought about their style. Luckily the Q&Fers didn't have to go to far, the curious ATers came to them. Eventually the natives caught on to the Q&F field trip dress code, and tried to blend it, but items like flame pants and buck teeth always gave them away immediately.

Some of the natives were very well dressed with everything matching, includin their hair, but others looked like they got dressed in the dark. Nothing can kill a good outfit quiet like over dressing. Sure you want to show off your dark cape, fairy wings, and nightmare scarf, but don't do it at the same time, its overkill.

Also trying to wear too many colors at the same time doesnt normally work. Some of the bests outfits included simple combinations of yellow and white, or red an black. Keeping outfits down to two main colors makes things easier on the eyes and allows you to match more.

So to sum up, less is more, that includes expensive items and colors, and if you want to blend in with the Q&Fers, dont wear flame clothes.

Also about the July's donation items: Well, I didn't really care for them. I mean I'm sure they could go great with some outfits, but its not my thing. I'd rather wear May's PJs then July's items anyday.

Razumi Yazura- Our wonderful artists, I mean, come on, every paper has to have comics! blaugh He's the moderator of the Comics/Poetry/Etc section, PM him and he'll decide whehter or not to put it up. ^_^

SykoSilver- He runs the Update FAQ, and has been to Fanime and talked with the admins about upcoming stuffs. O_O;; He's the moderator of the Update Section of our paper. ^_^

Midel the Destroyer- Updates the newest news on Gaia. ^_^;;

Jakobo- Our newest friendly neighborhood moderator, he moderates not only Gaia, but our coding section of the Newspaper. He loves expierementing with PHP, will be bringing out and discussing additional tools to improve your Gaia experience. 3nodding

Nobara- Moderator of the Linklist. She makes all the important and links of useful information for gaians. 3nodding

Aldo-Moderator of the bug report. He also owns the full bugllist located in EF. whee

Unethikul: Moderator of the editorials. :3 Nuff said. XD

Putret: Our sezzy photographer for the Q&F paper. She always has the inside scoop when she has her tablet and camera. >_________>;;
