PLEASE BUMP THIS TOPIC UP!!!!!!!!!!

I also ask that there be no Console War brought up at this topic over the next generation of video game consoles. Thank You

To my knowledge this is the only topic on gaia that has info on all 3 game systems, that came out first biggrin

This topic is about any info on the next generation of game systems. Please post any pics, specs, or info that you can find. So far i've found this out about them:

Nintendo Revolution
Annouced on May 11, 2004 at Nintendo's pre-Electronics Entertainment Expo 2004. It is set to be released in late 2006, about the same time as Sony's and Microsoft's next system. There is not much info on the system yet. The system is expected to be demonstrated at E3 in May 2005. Its rumoured to be backward compatible. The specs for it are currently unknown at this time, but rumors have started that Nintendo might be separately be working on two systems and the ultimately one would be chosen for retail.

System 1
Allegedly featured:
2.7GHz PowerPC G5 processor, 512MBs of RAM, and a 600MHz graphics chip.

System 2
Allegedly featured:
dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5 processors. 256MBS of DDR Main Memory RAM, 128MBS of GDDR3 Video RAM and a 500MHz graphics chip.

Both systems allegedly featured a built in 15GB hard drive, of this time, these rumors cannot be validated. Also the reason behinde the system being called "Nintendo Revolution" is because Nintendo expects it to be revolutionary, the system according to Nintendo fundamentally change how games are played. Also Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said in recent interviews that the DS offers a hint of what to expect from the Revolution, it's very possible that the Revolution may feature similar funcitionality.

Playstation 3
IBM has won the contract to produce microchips for the new console, Sony is also hoping that the PS3 will be 1,000 times more powerful as the PS2. Originally Sony planned to use a chip codenamed "Cell" however it has been reported that "Cell" development delays means that an alternative solution have been found. Simplex Solutions has said that they r developing the Graphics Synthesizer chip that will go with it. It will be a 0.18 micrometre chip about twice the size of the PS2 version. Also, it will feature 256MB of DRAM and will be able to handle 75 million polygons per second with a rate of up to 2.6 billion pixels a second. Currently the PS3 is estimate to be available sometime in 2006, but recent developments suggests that it may in fact arrive as late as 2007.

Xenon
Is expected to be released in late 2005 or early 2006; at the current moment i have no idea what the name is called so i'm just going to call it Xbox2. Some have speculate that the Xbox2 CPU will be developed by IBM, fabricated at 65 nanometers, and clocked at 3 to 5 gigahertz. Microsoft has also suggested that ATI will produce its video chip and that it will not have a hard disk. Similar to the CPU of Nintendo’s next system will also be developed by IBM and its video chip by ATI, leading to at least one reported to speculate on collaboration by Nintendo and Microsoft.

So far thats all i know, anyone else with Pics, info, or specs please post them ^_^

Nice, thanks for the info. I'm glad to see the consoles aren't coming out TO soon lol.
I can't wait for Nintendo's console.
ah yes, the Revolution does seem very nice (especially if it used the dual processors) Powerful enough to keep up, yet something more than just brute power. Something that will refresh the dulling game industry.

The Xbox, since it's switching to an ATI chip from an Nvidia, will not be backwards compatible, and will not have a hard drive (as mentioned above) which was a major selling point for me, so the "Xbox next" is off my list. (also, sheer processing power will not win. Microsoft releases very few games, and third parties will not utilize over-powerful hardware if they are releasing their game on all systems. Furthermore, Microsoft’s lack of configuration makes their machines not live up to their full potential. Simply because they are not built specifically for playing games, they are PC’s that can play games well)

Analysts say that the PS3, with all the features it will have (DVR, DVD burner, all of which I already have, and are probably better than the ones the PS3 will have) will cost somewhere around $500 in two years ($700 if sold today). I didn't like the $100 increase on gaming machines, brought about by the PS2, and I'm not definitely not going to want to buy a $500 machine, just so I can have features that I already have with my other hardware. Sorry Sony, but you're off my list as well.
I'm personally looking forward to the new XBox, but if it really doesn't have a harddrive, screw it. I'm really interested in the Nintendo one, though. Sony seems to be bland to me.

Uhmmmm, I'm no computer expert by far- but the specs listed for the "alleged" Nintendo Revolution are for Apple/Macintosh computers. The G4 and G5 Power PCs are Mac CPUs- and the slower ones from these numbers. Someone fed you bogus info there. IBM wouldn't be making these, either.

As for the relative price points on the consoles, corporations have to be painfully aware what the market will support. They know if they price it too high gamers might just sit tight on their old consoles and wait for 'em to come down. Don't panic until you see the actual ads from Nintendo, Xbox and Sony with the actual specs and prices. They'll be coming out soon enough.

Remember, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all competing for your dollars. It's how they stay in business. Making bad consoles or dumb/unplayable games isn't what they're trying to do- any of 'em.

My bet is it will be a hard choice, once again, when three very impressive game consoles are rolled out in about a year and a half. The winner will be the one who makes the best game titles at launch and has the most readily accessible game platform. My money is on Sony to deliver the goods, but we'll see.
I most have Xbox2 smile
any way thx for the info smile

Are you sure you're not thinking about the rumors for the PSX? It's already been confirmed that there won't be a DVD burner, I think...

IBM makes the Mac G5 PowerPC chips (PC is not a term for a computer that runs windows, PC is just "Personal Computer" and PowerPC is a Mac only processor, usually)

Also, the G5 is the fastest Mac processor out right now.
wow, can't wait, shame about the price it will be though...
All I can say is Nintendo better shape up on the whole Online scene, cause if not it is going to get it's a** kicked around by Sony and Microsucks again.

Actually, Micro$oft did not do better than Nintendo at all. Sure they sold a few more machines, but nowhere near as much software. That's a bad thing because Microsoft lost money on every machine they sold hoping to gain it back on their software sales. A stunt that Nintendo can do, but Microsoft cannot. Microsoft lost literally billions of dollars on selling the Xbox.

Secondly, statistics show that very few (as in less than 10%) of all gamers actually play online on their consoles. That's not a very big market. I don't think online play matters all that much for consoles, simply because we have computers and cellphones that can do that, however, I agree it would be a good idea to make developments, because the market may expand. All I'm saying is the lack of online is not what caused Nintendo to take a small blunder at the beginning of Cube’s life.

(Info from IGN)
I cant wait for the new Nintendo system. It will be great, just like everything nintendo does except for that VR system. That was just a bad dream.
