First Encounters at Somonen Academy

Eriol blinked and wiped the water out of his eyes. Damn rain. His clothes were mostly dry, but his hair was soaking wet. At least his eyes were dryer now. They darted to and fro, looking around. There didn't seem to be anyone there. Good.

Crouching down, he shook his upper body, much like a dog would. Water droplets flew everywhere, and would likely splash anyone passing by. Still, it was a relief to get that problem out of his hair. Literally.

Flora smiled. "Well, Wyona. Maybe we'll get in and I'll have a chance to know you better." She winked and turned around to get splashed by a person shaking himself off. "Excuse me?"

"Yer escused." Eriol replied before he even looked up. Once he did, he shrugged and waved his tail around a touch more cautiously. "Sorry. It's rainin where I was from. Where's this anyways?" His mom had offered little in the way of explanations before depositing him here. Wherever here was.

It had some neat looking walls though, he supposed.

Wyona smiled slightly to the boy that almost "appeared" next to them. This school wasn't a let down on the surprise factor for sure. "Hi there," She said softly, looking from the boy, to Flora, to the professor.

Flora looked shocked at the boy. "You don't know why you're here? This is a school, one that we're all applying to. You learn magic and summoning here."

Eriol looked at one of the girls with a raised eyebrow. "Hi yourself," he said, not unkindly. He then turned to the other with a frown. "Ya don't hafta be so uppity 'bout it."

Then the actual words hit him. "Sc- school? Dammit, I knew Mom was up to somethin. Couldn' jus let me do what I wanna do, nooo..."

"Er... right. Hi." Tantrums could wait for later. There were ladies around, and information to be gotten.

Wyona gave a nervous giggle. "You didn't know you were comming to school?" She asked the boy, finding it amusing that he didn't know where he was, just shipped here by his mother.

Flora watched as Wyona and the boy talked. Boy, would it suck if I was shipped here. No, I came of my own accord. "You mean to say that you were packed up and shipped here by your mother?"

For a fleeting moment Eriol remembered why he disliked girls somuch when he was younger. They were always nosy, and rubbing his nose in things. But now he knew how to handle himself in these situations. They didn't even bother him anymore. Really.

"Sorta. But I wanna know wha's goin on anyways. It looks real neat."

There. That would change the subject, yessir.

"It is neat." Wyona spoke up. "It's such a big school, it feels like I've been lost in it for hours!" She told him, adding a nervous laugh at the end.

"I can't wait till I can apply to come here. We'll be able to learn so much, and meet so many people and bask in it all." She said, almost drifting off.

"Well, nothing's really happened. They had some kind of a tour, but now we're just all hanging out here, talking and asking questions." Flora watched Wyona, smiling under her almost-permanent smirk. She is really cute..

Wyona looked at Flora and blushed a little, turning back to the boy. "I missed the tour but one of the professors said there would be one tomarrow. I have so many questions about this place" She said, looking all around. "Like where are we..."

"It looks cool 'nough I guess," Eriol commented, leaning against a nearby wall. "Too bad I missed a tour, that'd be cool. Get ta see everything what goes on here. But you gals can fill me in, can'tcha?"

The second to speak still irked Eriol, mostly due to her attitude earlier. That first girl was kind of cute though. He smiled vacantly. Not too bad after all.

Flora smiled. "I missed the tour also. Also can't really fill you in, because I haven't been asking questions. Sorry." She wasn't really thrilled with the way that Eriol started to look at Wyona. She narrowed her eyes slowly, glaring at him, warning him with her eyes to back off, hoping he got the message.

"Oh I don't know much about all of this." Wyona spoke up, giving a shy smile to Eriol. "I just know its a school, a lot of magical things, and a rather large place at that." She commented, oblivious of what each person she was talking to was thinking about her.

Eriol got the message loud and clear. He simply chose not to follow it. With an entirely too innocent grin, he leaned forward. "Large places 'r easy ta get by in, if ya know who ta stick with." He followed that statement with a subtle wink.

Wyona's face brightened up. "You mean you know your way around here? Could you show me? I've been looking for ages for a map with a you are here mark and just, can't seem to find it! Are you sure you know you're way though, I thought you just got put her a little while ago, or are you a fast learner?" She asked him, beaming from ear to ear.

Flora narrowed her eyes further. "Only if you have friends you can trust, ones that wouldn't leave you for the cuter girl. Do you know your away around here? How amusing. Why don't you show us around?" She smiled, knowing the boy had not been here long, and knowing that he would probably fail.

Erm. Okay, that hadn't gone well. "I don't think ya got what I was tryin ta say. I'm as new as all of ya- but if someone can watch out for ya, and help ya when yan need it, then yer gonna be jus fine."

His expression changed from kindness to annoyance as he looked at the second girl again. "And at least I'm not makin fun of someone who doesn't know what they're saying," he retorted, unaware he implicated himself in the process.

"I trust you!" She said happily to Flora, smiling from ear to ear.

"Ooooh." She said, it all sinking in now. "I'll look forward to you helping me and watching my back." She told him with a smile and a hand lightly on his shoulder before he erupted at Flora.

"What's the matter you two?" She asked in to and utter oblivion.

Flora smirked. "So you don't know what you're saying then, if you claim I am making fun of you." Flora turned to Wyona, grinning at her statement. "I trust you too, and I'm sure many people would be dying to help someone like you." She smiled. "You'll have a great time here. Nothing's wrong with me, not sure about him though" She nodded towards Eriol.

Busted. Still, Eriol managed to shrug it off. "Maybe not. Maybe I don' overthink everythin I say. But at least I'm tryin honestly, ain't I?"

The first girl reassured him a little, and he relaxed. "You bet I'll watch out for ya. BOTH of ya," he said pointedly. "If we get in, anyways."

"But I'd better know names of who I'm watchin for."

Flora raised an eyebrow slowly. Both? "My name's Flora." Why'd he look out for me after this whole conflict over Wyona...?

Wyona turned to flora first. "Thank you," She said earnestly, resting a hand on her forearm gently. "I might need all the help I can get being Ms. Clumbsy and all." She said with a light laugh.

"I'm sorry!" She said, turning to the boy and dropping her hand from Flora's arm. "My name is Wyona, I swear I'd forget my head sometimes if it wasn't attached!" She said, turning a tinge of pink in each of her cheeks.

Flora shivered softly at the girl's cool touch, though not enough that either of the others would notice. "Being clumsy isn't such a bad thing. It's actually pretty cute most of the time." She smiled.

Eriol offered one hand to each girl, but carefully positioned himself so that his right, dominant hand was next to Wynona. Some things he wouldn't concede easily.

"My name's Eriol. Nice ta meetcha, both of ya. I guess if we get inta this place we can help eachother out a little, huh? I could use some help jus gettin what it is, still."

She giggled at Flora's comment. "Sometimes it just leads to more trouble, like me knocking over that nice professor."

Wyona shook Eriol's hand, noticing the firm handshake he gave her in return. "We all seem like we'll need a lot of help." She said with smile.

She declined his hand, moving instead to Wyona's right, smiling at her. "Helping eachother is fine.. Nothing wrong with that." She offered her left hand to Wyona, so that she was in the middle of them, and winked at her subtly.

Once the handshakes were finished Eriol's arms folded themselves neatly across his chest. He was a bit wary of Flora, and decided not to get in her way. For now, at least.

"If we all get in, I guess I'll see ya girls in school. But if there're nomore tours or nothing, I should go." How he would do that was still unclear, but that didn't show. He turned, waving once his back was to them, and was out of sight around a corner.

"See now," DS said as Eriol came back through, "that wasn't so bad, was it?"

"Worse," Eriol muttered and slammed his door.

Sighing, the mother took the "badguy" position and opened the door anyway. "I'm sorry, sweets. But I have my reasons for wanting you to go to this school."

Eriol was flopped on his bed. He sat up slowly and looked DS in the eye. "Like wha? Makin me insane?"

"Not quite. And if you get in, I'll tell you."

"You ARE tryin ta make me go nuts."

DS bit back a laugh. "No, honey, I'm not. There's something about what goes on at that school that is a lot like you. But I don't want to tell you unless you get in."

"Why not?"

"Because it's a question. If you get in, you may get some answers. If not, you won't. And it would only make you wonder to the point that you really would go nuts."

"C'mon Mom, gimme some credit-"

"I am. If I didn't, I wouldn't even be telling you this much."

Considering this, Eriol let out a grunt. "Fine. You win, again."

DS ruffled his hair before leaving. "Someday you'll learn. Moms always do."
