There are the natural joys of life: the wind, the rain, the ocean and fields. For those in tune with these simple ideas of relaxation, there is something beyond the city's shell.     First off we'd like to welcome Daeril-sama who will now be combo art with Filly. Dae will be provided creature sketches that Filly will then be inking/shading/coloring. We're still looking for two or three guest artists and one or two headshot artists so interest parties should definitely apply! We've also put up a crew subforum so ALL staff (Fisume, princess fief, Ronso, and Dae) need to check that out~

    Now that we're back on top of things expect more growths to be coming out as they're requested along with the continuing plot and more new and exciting things!

    So sorry this hasn't been updated in a while. Both shop helpers have been fairly busy lately, and have been trying to work to get backlog up to date and other such things. There is the metaplot going on, which we plan to get more active with in the coming weeks. So if you have guardian remember there IS a masked crazy person running around. It is not beasts, but gods that walk among us.

Before our eyes could see, before our tongues could speak, and before our brains could percieve, the world was young and new. Fresh springs bubbled through fields of rocks and lush grass. Trees stood tall, to spite the earth's youth. Creatures great and small roamed the chasms of the ground and the large compass of the sky. But how did they get there, you may ask? High above the earth, an oasis existed--Olympis. It was here that gods ruled over their territories. Each species, each idea, and each element had their own god to look up to. It was a peaceful existence, free of agony or pain. However, the hierarchy of gods was about to collapse, ending in chaos. Olympis itself was destroyed as gods of every known element crashed into eachother, splitting the sky like lightning in the dark. The peace and harmony had ended, the bliss and innocence was gone.

The gods were thrown from their broken home, trapped deep in the earth's core to suffer for their sins. Encased in the muck and hot ash that they once ruled over, they were tormented for eons as the patterings of creatures above proved deafening. Yet, as time went on, they were released from their entrapment. But... how?

People. The species believed to be superior to all other beings. They had begun to create. Taking any raw material they could find, they began to carve, melt, scrape, chisel. Anything they could do to these primative forms to create. They wore these pieces as masks, hiding their true identities in ancient ceremonies praying to the gods that had long since been lost. As they prayed, or told stories of the glorious Olympis in it's hayday, the spirits were released from their traps. They fused with the masks, inhabiting them instead. Seeing through the eyes of the people, for the first time, their world as it is today. As the mask was cared for, the god's powers would further be released, becoming a magnificent creature. With their new guardians at their side, they could unleash the power within their new spirit.

However, these creatures could not be viable for long, for the human life proved too short. Without their guardians to take care of them, they slowly lost power and became fused once again within the artifacts. Though each were gods, the masks limited their powers as further punishment for their discord. Soon, the world would know no god or guardian. After centuries of dormancy, only one guard and guardian had survived. The god had enough power within him to sustain the life of his master, and thus they existed for eternity.

In The Present...

The city is a nice place to live. There is always something to see and do there. You've settled into your appartment now, and convinced yourself this was the right choice. There is a little harbor at one end of the city, and beyond that is a nice stretch of white-sanded beach. In the city itself, there is a gym, a hospital, a convenient store, and many other attractions. There is even a charming open market! It's the perfect place to get away for the afternoon and find good deals. You can't resist, and so you take a small walk in the brisk yet inviting air to the far end of town.

The market place is bustling with people selling their wares! There are little tents of all different colors selling fresh poultry, the daily catch, and other fresh fruits and vegetables. There are also other things you might need at your fingertips! However, though the lights, smells, and sounds of the market are gripping, a small shop not far up the road catches your eye. It looks old, like most buildings around here, and has an interesting style. You head over, leaving other thoughts behind.

Through the frosted glass window, you can see lots of interesting trinkets. The place looks inviting, and bears a worn sign swinging from two blackened chains reading "Ye Olde Trinket Shoppe". The sign is amusing, and the sights inside are irresistable. You can't help but to go inside.

As you step inside, your eye is dazzled with millions of trinkets: blown glass animals, bowls and wine goblets, string and wooden ornaments that are hand painted, procelain figures from China, small wooden and plastic masks. The thing that catches your eye the most, however, hangs on the other side of the counter: large, extravagantly painted masks, brilliant in color and formed by careful hands. Price tags dangle around your head from everything hung from the rafters, but those are the ones you pine for most. You go to the desk, ringing the bell.

The sound of a dog barking comes from the other room; you figure an upstairs. The barking dies down, and an old man appears at the base of the stairs. Though he is old, he appears to be spry and in good health. "What do you want?" he asks quietly, giving you a once over. Your eyes fall on the masks behind him, and he understands. As he picks the one you point to off the nail in the wall, he turns to you with a knowing look. "Take good care of this." He says with a smile, handing you the mask without a bag. You find this peculiar, but shrug it off, thanking him and heading home with your new treasure.

You have yet to learn what he means. However, what he fails to tell you is that from this mask a powerful animal will spring; a god. The myths of olden times were not lying. They are indeed real and can be brought back. Though they have little power compared to the olden day, they are still there, traditionally called guards and guardians. The old custom never faded, and he will tell you everything about the myth once you ask it of him. Do not be alarmed by his words, for the old man is kind and knowing. Will you take care of that mask? Will it trust you and reveal itself to you? Only time will tell.

The rules for this shop apply to everything this shop encompasses. These will apply to all events, shop matters, and guild matters. Please take the time to read these through before you ask any in-thread or PM-related questions, as this will save us time and yourself embarassment.

{GeneraL}___________________________________

    01. Please keep the feeling a positive one. If we see any arguments blossoming, we will step in and put a stop to it. If it does not stop, you will be banned.
    02. OOC and IC must be kept separate. If you cannot understand this concept, you will be removed from the shop.
    03. We will not take bribes or hear pity stories. If there is an event being held, and you PM one of us asking for a break on a pet, we will not tollerate it. Events are held to be won by chance, skill, or money. If you don't have any of these, you cannot have a pet. That is that.
    04. Art theft is a serious crime. We put the man hours into making a beautiful pet for you to own, so don't screw it up by stealing what isn't yours. In the event of theft, you will be caught and reported, and we will take action to the full extent that we can.
    05. There will only be one Visages pet per owner. In the event that we feel it is time to open more opportunities to single owners, we will do so. If we catch you using mules or dummy accounts to earn more pets for yourself, you will be banned from our shop.


{Guild UserS}________________________________

    01. The guild is free for any pet owner's use. It is used for apartment (journal) listings, one on one roleplays, or group roleplays. We ask that you please keep OOC conversations out of the guild, as it is for rping purposes only. Do not advertise inside the guild for other shops. This can be posted in your sig, or mentioned if the conversation is leaning towards that in the thread. Otherwise, we will be upset and will suspend the user for a specified amount of time.


{FlatsalE}__________________________________

    01. Every flatsale will feature one or multiple prompts. Entries are almost always judged on writing talent, creativity and that ability to capture an audience. Keep in mind these ARE rp required and we want competent rpers in our ranks.
    02. Flatsales will be held in-thread at announced and specified times. If you cannot make this time, that is too bad as we will more than likely not negotiate for the sake of one participant. You will be given 20 minutes to reply to the prompt after a GO post, after which time no more entries will be accepted. If you are late in posting (posting after the STOP post), do not expect to be included. There can be exceptions to this, but this is based on the shop owner's discretion.
    03. The price of a pet won in any flatsale is 10,000 g. If you win an animal and are unable to pay this fee within 24 hours, your prize will be defered to the next runner up. Please consider this fee before you decide to enter. We accept both donation items and gold as payment, and will attempt to refund the difference if the item you pay with is well over the 10k mark. Also, do not whine about the price of a flatsale pet! These are all custom art, and take lots of time to create! Please understand that we slave over each piece for hours to get it perfect for you, and it is well worth the price.
    04. At every flatsale, a phrase is required somewhere in your entry to prove that you have read these rules. Please be sure to print it bold so it is easy to find. If you cannot weave it into your entry, posting it at the beginning or the end is acceptable.
    05. If you happen to submit your entry, but forget the phrase, that's fine! Do NOT edit your post, because we read them as soon as they're posted. Post in another post, remembering to print in bold so we know you've read the rules, and we will consider your entry valid again!


{AuctioN}________________________________

    01. Please do not plan bids in the threads! It is discouraging to others.
    02. Bids will end when time ends. The highest bidder will pay their highest recorded bid within 24 hours. If they cannot pay for some reason, the prize goes to the next highest bidder.
    03. There is a 10 minute snipe-guard on all auctions. If someone bids within the last 10 minutes of the auction to try and steal the prize before anyone can outbid them, the auction will be extended 10 minutes. Once 10 minutes of bid-free time has elapsed, the auction will close and the winner will be announced. If you have a long list to compute, you may ask us to extend the 10 minutes to 20 minutes before you calculate.
    04. The types of approved items will be listed at each auction. Please be sure to post the full name of the item, and the value. We use lowest marketplace value at the time of your bid. Someone will verify this claim, so it is important to post the entire name of the item. For specific items, we may specify an accepted price that you cannot negotiate.

    01. Tickets will be sold for a specified amount of time only, no exceptions!
    02. At the end, we will use Gaia randomizer or randomizer.org to pull the winning ticket(s). If it is your number, you win the prize specified.
    03. Tickets are 100 g each unless otherwise specified. They will be sold in unlimited amounts, so please send your trade ASAP. It's hard to keep track of so many purchases!


{Role PlaY}________________________________

    01. No god-moding or power-playing will be tollerated, period.
    02. Gods, being gods, cannot die. However, since they ARE flesh and blood, they can sustain wounds. There is an advanced healing process for such wounds, but death does not happen unless the mask is destroyed before it has matured and manefested the solid, breathing god
    03. The main rp-ground is in the guild. The thread is for OOC chat and fooling around purposes. Please keep this in mind before you start a role play!
    04. There is role play information for the city and all the different parts of it, please refrence when you rp. We expect literacy to grow as an owner spends more time in the shop, so please keep this in mind. Also, one-liners will not be tolerated, unless it is in an extremely limited dialogue context.

What's the shop for...?

This shop is for the sale of Visages. These are masks that evolve into creatures. They have mystical powers, and are custom drawn. By the end, they are full fledged gods of a specific vocation. They are rp required, so please keep that in mind before you join up with us! If you do not rp, your mask will never release it's inner being! ):


What's the setting...?

Please visit the Visages guild for further information on the setting. The basics, if you didn't read the above information (located in the intros), is that this is a shop centered around a city. There are shops and parks and fields and beaches to suit your every rping need. The gods will also be happy here, because there is access to everything they might need or want.


Can I be a an artist...?

No. We are not looking for any kind of help whatsoever. Please do not ask via PM, in the thread, or by any other means of communication. We are telling you right now we aren't interested.


How much does a pet cost...?

The flatsale price for the masks are 10k each. Other then that the price will vary based on what type of event we have or if it's an auction or raffle.


Will you give pets away...?

No! DO NOT ASK FOR A PET. This is a plain and simple rule. I hate beggers and I also don't want to see 6464564 posts by you in thread about how you don't have one, you really want one and 'lyke omgz can somone buy me 1 plz'.


Can I do a pet trade/art trade/ or just bribe you...?

That depends on the artist. Usually if we're willing to do a trade of any sort or take bribes then it will be listed under the invidual owner's list. You can always PM us asking to do a trade/bribe/etc since we may or may not frequently update our trades sections. However, do not be disappointed if we turn you down, as we are busy people.


Can you lower prices? / Why are the pets so expensive...?

These are custom pets. Each one has it's own individual set of four, possibly five stages. This is an enormous amount of work for the artists involved. We like for that to reflect in our pricing. If you want us to lower prices, you'll have to wait until there is a raffle where tickets are 100 g each. The flatsale prices will never drop.


Okay..so..uh...I got my visage, but HOW do I rp a mask...?

You don't. Your mask is only an object at first but eventually develops to grow into your visage. So we expect you to rp yourself AND the guard. Spend some time out and about with other people in the city or stay at home and admire your mask... eventually it will change. Once it does, the fun begins, and you'll be let in on the gods in masks secret. After you are well versed, your guard will appear fully and you will be able to finally be it's guardian!


Wtf does 'Visages' mean...?

It means 'faces' in French. This whole shop has a similar theme, so if you'd like to know what other words are, there is a French-English dictionary/translator free online somewhere. Go use it!


I like the mask design in the flat sale, but not the colors. Can I choose my own...?

No. You only get free reign of your masks if you win a custom auction. It's called a flat sale for a reason. You are limited.


So, the mask design determines how the god looks, right? But what about the colors? They don't seem relative to the god, per say...What are they for...?

Brilliant observation, my dear Watson. The colors on the masks decide the God's general vocation, though vocations aren't clearly assigned until it finally becomes a flesh and blood being. And even then, it won't have all it's powers until it reaches the final stage... if you are brave enough to go that far...


Is each God custom done...?

YES! I think this is the question that is causing the most confusion. Each god looks different, so they all have different lineart. No two masks are alike, therefore the gods are likewise.


So, who chooses what vocation the Gods will have?

It's up to the artist to decide what the vocation is. During the baby stage we will list some minor powers the baby is able to do giving clues to what vocation they might have. Then when they become an adult their vocation is revealed along with powers/power limitations. Demi-God vocation/powers are also revealed at this stage. Customs do get to pick their vocation, but we still choose the powers they can have for said vocation.


Do I have to do an intro rp?

Yes! Although you don't have to do your intro first, you still have to get it done in order for your pet to advance to its next stage. You have to ICly get your mask/object from either Vaughn (Filly), Auld (Les) or one of the shop helper NPCs. Just let us know in thread and we can set it up for you. If you obtained a visage at a baby or adult stage then an intro rp is not required, but you must make a journal entry explaining how the mask was obtained.


If I don't have a mask can I still rp?

Unfortunately you cannot. Once you obtain a visage pet this also gives an rp right, it wouldn't be fair if we let just anyone roleplay and it would make more work on the shop owners.


Can I rehome my mask if I no longer wish to rp it?

No, a visage pet can NEVER be rehomed. If a player wishes to leave the shop, for whatever reason (like RL occurance) then the mask simply becomes dormant and does not manifest to it's next stages.

D.O.C.: Date of Creation.
Gender: What it says X3
Vocation: What your God rules over. This is a general rule, such as skies or water. The guardian chooses a more specific one if he/she so pleases. It may or may not narrow down until later in it's development.
Mask Type: What Mask 'type' is displayed.
D = Draco
F = Feline
C = Canine
A = Avian
Paints: The colors exhibited on the mask.
Ornaments: Decorations the fully grown god will wear. (ribbon in hair, earring...) more can be purchased as the god grows.
The bobble thing in the upper-right corner: This is your God's Sigil. This sign represents their vocation type.
Experience: The Age of your God. This can also represent Wisdom, or life experience.
Health: Basically a rp meter. If you never rp your God then the bar goes down. D:

Guard: YOU! The person who created the mask. :3
Alias: Your name.

Okay, so we've explained what a sigil is... sort of. It's the sign for what general area your god's vocation will fall under! But what do these look like, and what do they mean? Well, just use this helpful guide below:

Mask Materials:

Different mask materials are used for different types of masks. Each material has a wide variety of manipulations, so the sigils posted above link to the materials shown below:

Wood is for nature

Glass is for water

Bone is for death

Stone is for earth

Copper is for life


On the cert, one Sigil sign will be present. That will tell which category your god falls under. Using this guide, you can figure which vocation your god may have. Though the cert shows a specific vocation, the vocation will be gradually discovered through rp with your god. At first, it will be weak, but eventually when they reach their final stage (if they ever do) they will have full control.

Also, it may help to keep in mind your mask will be based on one of four animals:

Each one has it's own set of characteristics. Once in it's animal stage, the characteristics will become evident to you and you will be able to play it accordingly. The expression/shape of mask also will give you a hint as to which category it falls under. So, if you have a canine mask, play your god with dog senses, etc.

The paint present on the masks will help to define a more specified preference in vocation as well as a hint to what might be on their face under the mask. If there are stripes on the mask, they may very well be present on the creature's face. If the paint is pink, the creature might have a pink theme to it's body. Sometimes the paint has nothing to do with body color. It's just luck of the draw!

What's this? A small animal has appeared! Yet is doesn't look like any animal you've ever seen! This is a "child stage" of your god. It seems to bare the mask somewhere on it's body, did that animal come from the mask?

The creature continues to grow. Strange things seem to happen as around this time Gods reveal their powers to you as they gain some of their godly energy back.

Gods have a very secret transformation to go through to regain their true glory and break free of their masks. We are still investigating this stage, as it is rarely reached!

Along with Gods, Demi's also have a last and final stage in which they break free of their binding stage. The outcome is a mystery!


Demi-Gods are like the other Gods, but on a much smaller scale. They are, of course, custom done as well but only require two (possibly 3) stages. They could be seen sort of like familiars for their God and make an excellent companion. There can only be one demi-God to every God.

Hi, everyone, and welcome to my little slice of paradise. In case you couldn't tell from the header, my name is Lesotho! You can call me Les for short, of course. I was a part of this shop when it was originally created back in 2004. I came on with Otsune as the writer for the shop, and was responsible for the original front page materials. Since the shop has come back, I have decided to take on the role of artist as well as doing some of the literature seen here. Other bits were done by Forbidden Filly and Princess Fief. Give them cookies.

I am currently a senior in highschool, and loving it. Being thus, my schedule is a little bit hectic with all the last quarter projects I need to have done by June. Thus, I might be sparse at times, depending on what I'm doing. After school is over, I plan to be around constantly to answer questions as well as offer pets to the world of Gaia!

I am also part of another shop originally started by Otsune and myself known as Mush!. There is a link below for those who haven't heard of it, and I encourage you to check it out! Forbidden Filly and myself run it now, with the help of several shop helpers to keep everything in tip-top shape!

If you would like a pet from me, there will be several ways of obtaining it. These will be avaliable to the public at different times depending on what I'm doing. Space will be limited, as these are all custom creatures and I am cramped for time until June. Once my status has been updated to summer break, I may offer more frequently or in higher quantities! Please see below to see if you are eligible for a pet through one of my means:

Pet Trades

I will be accepting pet trades on an individual shop basis. Depending on the shop, I will offer different things. The lowest offering will be a demi-god, randomly assembled, and the highest will be a fully custom god, where you can create the mask and the general appearance of it's adult stage! How fun! If you are interested in a pet trade, please let me know via PM. Please do not feel bad if I turn you down, for I am very busy and can't afford to take on too many at once.

Lesotho's pet trades are currently closed.

Bribes

I will also occationally take bribes. The bribe will have to be fairly high, but bribes can be offered at any time. I would be expecting something exponentially higher than the custom asking price in order for you to obtain one outside of normal offerings, and even more than that if you wish to have a custom mask and/or creature. Bribes will remain open almost always, but again do not be disappointed if I turn you down, as I am busy and do not want to accept bribes often.

Lesotho's bribes are currently closed.

Roleplay does not happen in the main thread. Instead ALL rp will take place in the guild. If you want to have an OOC chat with your visages in the main thread, that is perfectly fine, but for real IC roleplay, please use the guild. The front part of the guild is used for the city map, workspaces, and various announcements. Then there are four different subforums to make rping easier:

Lofts [journals] - Used, obviously, for journals and also to denote where visages/gaurdians live. There is a solid housing system so please refrence it when you are choosing where to live. Roleplay can happen in the journals (residents) but that is up to individual players.

Indoor Rp Areas - Roleplays taking place inside or around buildings will happen here. There are also a few NPCs scattered about, just look for the NPC tracker down at the bottom. It is the trinket shop where most indoor intro rps will take place.

Outdoor Rp Areas - Roleplays taking place outside or in rural areas take place here. There are also a few NPCs scattered about, just look for the NPC tracker down at the bottom. It is the local graveyard where most outdoor intro rps will take place.

Olympis - Certainly a land of wonderment that only awakened and Elder Gods have the pleasure to go. Anyone with an awakened pet will be allowed to roleplay here, but make sure you read all the available info.

Each area is designated with a sticky, but for one on one or open rps, either in indoor or outdoor, you may start a new thread and label it accordingly. This is fitting so you won't bog down a particular stickied thread/area. Aside from rp subforums there are two more.

Quest Threads - Wanted a visages pet, but were never able to obtain one? Well here's a place to do a quest thread to get your concepts out in the open. It's HIGHLY encouraged for quest threads to be set up. *winkwinknudgenudge*

Staff Lounge - This is pretty much self explanatory. A place where all artists and staff to come and discuss future plots, create work lists, etc.
