Welcome to Gaia! ::

The guild is up! You can find it here:

http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/guilds/viewforum.php?f=1935

Thanks to Sage of Chaos and Ashrim for their donations! They'll be refunded their entry fees upon joining. biggrin

As a note, though, quite a bit of my money went into starting this...so...if you feel inclined to send me a li'l somethin'-somethin'...I won't stop ya. xd [/begging]

Wow. XD Due to the large amount of character abusers on Gaia, it looks as though we shall form a guild!

It costs 20k, though. eek

Since I'll be starting it, I'm willing to pay 10k, or even 15k. That means we only need another 5-10k. Anyone feel up to helping out the cause? XD

Current Total: 10-15k

Hi, my name is Silver, and I'm a character abuser.

xd

It seems as though the more I like one of my characters, the worse life they have. For example:

Sayuri -- hate her. She's got a very cushy life and two guys fighting over her.

Yukio -- love him. His love interest is terrified of him, and he gets beheaded by the end of the book.

Obsi -- worship him. He's a prostitute with a cigarette habit, is very attached to his anti-depressants, and has no family that wants him.

The 'favored ones' are also prone to injury. oO

Is anybody else one? Or am I just a lone psycho?

:as the song 'Cruelty', her appointed song for one of her favourite characters due to all the hell she puts him through comes on:

You're not alone.

I'm probably worse though. Jay Descourdes, one of my most adored characters is the one who I have tortured the most. And I do mean that literally.

He was orphaned at two, adopted by a family whom he cared very much for and saw killed in front of his eyes by vampires at .. fifteen? Sixteen? Can't remember exactly at the moment. Anyway, due to this he became a Rogue vampire slayer, bringing his adoptive sister into the dangerous business with him.

He lost all of his allies when he was captured by the enemies and turned into a vampire by force. His base was destroyed and his adoptive sister, partner and love died in his arms right before he was rescued by the Guardians, one of the vampire groups that he had sought to destroy.

He went mad for a few years but eventually regained his sanity and changed his name to Jory .. only to watch another human begin the same course that he had taken, except with much better success. In trying to prevent the same course from happening again, he is branded as their enemy. At the same time, the story of the original Rogues who had broken away and fought the Guardians .. Jay Descourdes is named a hero and Jory is blamed for his death.

heart I adore him so .. despite all of that, I swear.
You're not alone.

Thanato: He's a character I routinely beat up with my other characters. Yet I love his personality

Nyx: Pretty much violent me X 10. accident prone, and falls off a building into a truck full of matresses more than once

Alice: Like knives. And throwing them. Though at the end of current project, her own knives get thrown at her and she dies.

edit:

A few of my other characters who arent as well developed:

Hou: As his name means monkey, you can kinda tell what his personality's like.

God: Yes. I have a god character. He hates huamns and loves nothing more than to take them off the planet. BUt he needs a reason to.

Jane: Female assasin who's as clumsy as hell

Bob: Gets high (as in seriously high) off of sweetner.

Lahn: newest one. And he's got a new story plot all to himself. Every person he's ever cared for or loved has gotten killed through some freak accident. This sdrives him crazy and lands him in the mental hospital, where he meets a team of trained psycologists bent on straightening him out.

There's a Starsky and Hutch (movie) reference in there. Points to whoever got it.
Let's see:

My favorite character is Vincent, a sociopathic serial killer, rapist, drug addict, and, in later stories, locked in permanent solitary confinement.

On down the line, I've got Hunter who's only family is a brother who is gambling addict with psychic powers who has plans to kill him on sight, he's a professional hitman, and he almost got gutted by a pyschotic serial killer (not Vincent).

Raphael is a drug addict who had the love of his life raped and murdered by Vincent.

Clay is so tripped out on drugs that reality has no meaning to him anymore.

Colin is what amounts to a policemen in a post-apocalyptic society who is thrust into battle against an undead army led by a Necromancer hell bent on killing everything. His only companion is a vampire he'd been chasing who may or may not be a demon with godlike powers. He loses his right arm, most of his face, and control of his legs, which he repairs by selling his eternal soul to Satan in a bid for revenge which drives him insane.

Alec is a cop who's family is slaughtered, save for his son who was kidnapped, and he snaps and becomes a man of such violence that even The Punisher would be afraid of him. In an ironic twist, he kills his own son, just to add insult to injury.

Is that enough abuse?

"Love hurts."

Ah, yes, character torture is fun, isn't it? As long as they don't angst over it too much. But, yeah, I think many people do that. The more you like a character, the more he/she tends to get tortured.
The characters of one of my stories in particular get abused a lot.

Ben: Violently murdered. Although he does get to take the guy with him.

Lewis: Also violently murdered by the same guy as Ben.

Marigold: Lewis' girlfriend who watches him die. She lives for several years after his death during which she witnesses the murder of several of her other friends.

Abby: Is routinely physically pummeled. Her body is largely covered in scars, bruises and fresh cuts, not to mention the occasional bone that gets broken. A lot of people she knows die, and as she is an empath she feels them dieing. Up until she learns to shield this involves convulsive pain and screaming. Afterwards it involves nausea and dizziness. I also gave her a love interest who she alternates between despising and loving very much. He tried to have her thrown in jail once. She's probably going to end up witnessing his death before they get things sorted out between them.

Eric: (My favorite character) Was the sex puppet of a psychotic murdering tyrant. Eventually was promoted from sex puppet to assistant murderer. Was then saved from psychotic tyrant and managed to land in a caring relationship. Caring boyfriend leaves him for unknown reason and he drinks himself stupid.
*Raises hand*

I've made my characters lose friends and family members more than enough. They've been treated badly by someone they have cared (and by me ^^), got deadly sicknesses, got (almost) killed,...
I play with my characters' health all the time; if there is no physical pain, it is time for mind games.

I must admit that being my character isn't easy. sweatdrop
I'd have to agree that you all aren't alone in torturing your favorite characters. The tortured ones have more room to develop from tragedy and thus their emotions and minds become complex. That makes the suffering characters fun to think about. If nothing happens to a character, they grow dull and flat and become easy to predict. Uhh... yeah.... I kinda went on a rant there... Gomen!! sweatdrop

3nodding i love killing characters that i don't find need to exist further to keep the story running. i like to keep character groups at the very minimum number of participants as possible. sweatdrop actually, i stole the name of a very old character and gave it to my avi, and people in the WF seem to relish in goat-abuse, so i suppose there's some character abuse right there.
^^; Clearly, you're not alone. All of my favorite characters have major problems and angst issues. The question is, why? I'm not sure....can anyone else answer this?
Veronica: The sweetest character ever. Plan on getting her eaten by demon zombies

Duke (Aiken): Another sweetie. A coward who will meet a very untimely demise in a painful way I have not determined.

Tertia: While she won't die, she's a b***h and nobody likes her, thus she is sad.

Virginia: Another b***h, won't die, but will be hated and angsty.

So, the moral of the story is that sweet people get killed, bitches live but are sad and stuff. Simplistic, but that's how it tends to turn out. I also tend to kill narrators...I don't quite know why either.
One of my characters is basically abused until he goes super hell-a** crazy. He practically becomes a villain, what with the rampant killings and all.

Another character is raped by her uncle while he is under the influence of heroin, which has given her psychotic drug-phobia and especially a fear of needles.

Another is kept in a comatose haze by her surrogate father.

Yeah... i do that. But not to the point of ridicule. (Butterfly Effect, anyone?) It's all just motivation and a solid reason behind their actions.

Makes them easier to work with, I'd suspect. Jay was my first venture into a long story, and giving him a long, complicated past made it a lot easier to deal with him as a character.

Plus .. well eventually a character has to go through struggles or you have no story so some trouble/angst seems to be inevitable.
Heck, yes. The more I love the character, the more likely they are to have a miserable life.

Lailoken: Has his twin brother ed, and is used as a "weapon" by manipulating councils.

Conrad: His fiance is ed in cold , and he completely snaps. IN same "weapon" program as Lai.

Dante: His mother was a nun attacked by a common theif, she gave him up, and he was raised by Mother Madrona. Mother Madrona is then ed, and he's devastated.

Rose: Her father was the ruler of a quite evil kingdom, her mother was a slace. She's trained by her father to take over the throne, but on his her uncle tries to kill her and she's forced into hiding. She's bitter, angry, gets almost killed numerous times, has her right eye slashed out when she was a teen. Gets connected to her husband in a way that if he's injured, she's injured, and vice versa. Panics, runs away so as to not hurt him, and eventually ends up shoving him off a cliff so his will kill her and she can't hurt him anymore.
>_< Messed up character, but I love her anyways. In fact, she's my favourite character.
Torturing them is what makes them interesting. I love my characters so much. ^^
