West of Sunrise

Events

This morning you can carefully placed your parchment in the light of the sunrise, smiling to yourself as the glow rose about the symbol. But as you turned away, you stopped. Was the glow continuing to increase? Transfixed by the sight, you can only watch as the symbol grows brighter and brighter, until the strong grey ink almost seems to leave the paper and float up the sunbeams. As it reaches the window and is outlined by the sunlight, it suddenly flares into incandescense. You shield your eyes from the brightness; when your sight finally clears, you gasp. Balancing shakily on the windowsill is a small, kirin-like spirit creature, about the size of a lapdog. It turns its trusting eyes towards you, and you realise with a jolt that you have done it; through your care and attention the spirit has left its long years of imprisonment. The kirin-spirit blinks, and then jumps awkwardly of the windowsill to the floor.
"Iron?" He asks in a bold, childlike voice. And you can say nothing, but beam and nod.

Event #1

Kel-chan grinned as she handedyou the small rolled-up parchment. You carefully unscroll it a little; the steely grey symbol seemed to glow as you held it up to the light. "And this is Iron?" You ask softly.
"Sure is, at least I hope... keep it in the sunrise every morning, to refresh the ink, and hopefully something will happen!" The girl replied happily. You turn to leave the treehouse, the parchment cradled safely in your hand.

Day 1

Marushii padded across the white sands to her beach house, the scroll clasped tightly in her hand. The scroll... She was drawn to it like a moth to a flame -- it was irresistible. She smiled to herself as she entered her home, kicking off her shoes quickly and racing upstairs and into her small "office". Kaisui, as usual, was out swimming -- that ment she had the place to herself.

"I wonder what he's doing this early?" She mused, glancing at the small numbers lit up by a green light upon the clock. "Sunrise isn't until a bit... Oh! That's right!" Her deep azure eyes went to the scroll. "You're to be in the sunlight... The morning sun, to be exact. Luckily, this office has two windows since it's a corner room! But... Which way does the sun rise in?"

Her brow furrowed slightly as she pondered this question. With a shrug, she opened the scroll and laid it out on her desk -- something she positioned between the two windows in the middle of the room. "The morning light hits here... I remember it always lights up my work in the morning -- that's how I know that I need to head off to bed..." She told Iron softly, running her fingers over his character. The girl sat down in her chair and waited for sunrise, nearly drifting off as the first golden rays lit up the sky.

After the morning sun had passed, Marushii applied a fresh layer of ink to Iron. A paper fan was then used to dry the ink quickly before it was rolled up and stashed in her drawer before the kitsune finally wandered off to bed.

Day 2
The sun is rising... I can see the first tendrils of gold reach up, turning the once deep-blue sky a soft violet as it rises. I never noticed how beautiful the sunrise was... Probably because I was always asleep when it rose! ( whee )

Oh! I forgot to introduce myself... My name is Marushii. I am the caretaker for the kirin Iron, who is currently sealed within the scroll next to me... As the sunlight touches the character, it... I don't know -- shimmers? Darkens in color? Glows? It's hard to explain, really.

At any rate... I moved my desk closer to the window, and turned it so it faces the sunlight. Iron seems to approve -- the morning light was able to hit him sooner than yesterday, and was there for a bit longer. I'm not sure if he heard my apology for yesterday, but I'm sure he understands. ^^;

Anyway, back to introductions. I'm a kitsune with three tails, though I REALLY dislike fire -- strange for a kitsune, huh? Instead, I've found my calling in water... But doesn't iron rust? Just in case, I bought some de-rusting liquid. I don't know if Iron will rust or not, but it's better to be safe than sorry, right?

The other house-mate, Kaisui, doesn't know about Iron yet. He's too busy swimming and exploring the ocean to pay much attention anyway... I'm a bit glad, too -- he might get the scroll wet! ( gonk )

Now, if I'm to keep a good record, I should start Iron's story, right? It started when I discovered a treehouse in the city... Yes, a treehouse. I entered and sorta... looked at the scrolls. Kel-chan, the keeper of the place, soon arrived and stopped me before I could do some "serious" damage, thankfully! ^^;

There were three scrolls that needed assistance in awakening their captive spirits, and they were all different metals -- Gold, Silver, and Iron. Bronze was there too, but had a caretaker. It's... hard to say why I chose Iron over Gold and Silver. After all, many people would go for one of the other two because gold and silver are VERY valuble metals, whereas iron is pretty common.

But... "an iron will creates a mind as sharp as steel" rang in my mind. Iron was my calling -- how could I resist? And on a higher note... why would I want to resist?

One thing's for certain... Iron will be VERY amazing when he awakens. But, before that... I wanted to get as close of a shade of ink to Iron's origional ink color, so I went out and bought white and black ink, plus an empty jar. Into the jar went both white and black until it was mixed... I think I added a bit too much black, though -- it's slightly darker than his origional shade, but it's the closest I've gotten. ^^;

Here's to a brand new day!

Marushii gently blows over the ink she's just written, waiting for it to dry before first rolling up the freshly-inked Iron and shashing it into his drawer, before adding a second scroll containing the first log of Iron she's written.

Marushii growled, slowly unrolling Iron's scroll with her left hand. "C'mon..." She breathed, standing up slightly to push it farther. At last, she stretched the scroll as wide as it needed to be to fully expose Iron's symbol before placing several weights on the scroll to keep it held down.

"You know, you could've asked me to do that." Kaisui remarked from the doorway, sitting on his haunches. "Your right wrist is bad enough as it is -- don't wear out your left, unless you WANT me to do everything for you."

Marushii smilied, chuckling at the Ashen's expression. "I can't help it that I have carpal tunnel in my right wrist, Kai." She said, leaning back in the chair with her eyes drawn to the scroll. "Besides, I need to use my left hand more -- even though I'll probably be better off getting someone else to do it, I need more practice."

He snorted. "Stubborn." The ashen stood and flicked his fin-like tail back as he padded into the room, curious. When he reached the desk, he placed his two front paws on it and stood, looking at it curiously. "Iron."

Astonished, Marushii whipped her head around and looked at her companion. "You can read chinese?!"

"Yep. You never asked, so I didn't tell." He replied, turning away and padding towards the door. "I'm goin' for a swim. See you later!"

The kitsune sighed, flicking her ears back and looking at the scroll. "I hope you don't play games like that." She told him softly, picking up the jar of ink and brush. The morning sun had disappeared when Kaisui walked out the door, leaving Marushii with the task of re-inking.

At last, after and hour and a half of painsakingly moving the brush slowly and carefully over the character, she rolled the dry completed scroll up and returned him to his drawer.

((Event #2 strikes! Whee!!))

Marushii slowly sank to her knees, stupified by the sight of the kirin spirit. She was breathless; she could only watch as the small spirit delicatly picked up his deep blue hooves from the small, hoof-shaped craters in the floor and trotted towards her, deep blue eyes matching sapphire hued eyes wide. "Iron," he spoke again with his head held high, as if stating a fact.

"Yes... You are called Iron." Marushii replied, finally finding her voice. "I am... Marushii -- call me Maru, though. It's easier to say."

The black kirin spirit nodded before leaning forward, causing the sunlight to catch and lightup his steel horn. "Marrrre-ooooou." He sounded it out carefully, testing it. "Mare-ou! Maru!"

Tears formed at the corners of her eyes as she reached forward, a slightly hesitant hand reaching out to stroke his cheek. It was warm -- not forge-hot like the burst of sunlight had suggested. But... she drew her hand back, laughing. "You're just a cute little heat absorber, aren't you?" She told him, once she realized how much heat was stored in his little form.

Well... There went the thoughts of having to suffer through cold nights that the ocean wind likes to bring.

Smiling, she reached out with both hands again and stroked his ears. She regretted it a moment later when the spirit crawled onto her lap, heavy as his namesake is. A quick shift of position and a short explanation left Iron in her embrace, yet still sitting on the floor... A perfect compromise that left both of them happy.
