Like it says above, this is a journal for Demens, my Windigo. He will be posting in it in a diary format and I, for the most part, will be uninvolved by the time his later stages come about.
Windigos originated from Algonquin myth. They are cold-hearted and ruthless beasts who posess the souls and bodies of humans in order to walk among the physical world. There are many bonechilling tales of those caught under the windigos influence suddenly turning on thier companions on a cold winter hunting trip. Hunger and violence are thier trademarks, and once someone has been influenced he or she will turn on any human present with the desire the tear their flesh from thier bones and sate their own hunger.

The residence of this particular Windigo is unusual and isolated. A Japanese restaurant flashed it's boldly coloured sign over the deserted street. Few people ever pay attention to their surroundings in this place. They come for the mediocre food, they drink the stale sake, and then they leave nothing but dirty plates and stale air behind.
The entrance to the windigo's lair is hidden down the neglected alley beside this building. Barrels, crates and trash cans hide the alley from view most of the time, and the flashing sign of the restaurant casts it in unsure shadows so that most eyes pass right by it.
The lone door looks unused and rusted shut, and the concrete walls are stained with graffiti in exotic shapes. Most of the words and kanji have become part of the wall, shadows that have yet more symbols and words laid upon them.
It is behind that rusted door that the creature makes its home.

Many Japanese lanterns hang from the cieling, casting multi-hued shadows on the wall and giving the small room a haunting glow. A windchime hangs among them, shaped like a fish, and though there is no wind it makes it soft music.
A few shelves line the walls, topped with oddities old and new. The first one bears short, squat jars with corks holding their contents in. There are three taller jars, and their contents look deadly sweet.
The next shelf bears a collection of tattered toys, the first of which is a worn silver koi whose glass eyes stare out blindly. Two octopus toys follow, one bearing a knowing smile and the other's blue tentacles hanging limply off the shelf. They are followed by a blue stuffed cat with a flickering flame casting even more shadows along the walls. Next is a small blue dragon, it's glass eyes reflecting everything but showing nothingin thier depths. Lastly there is a round batwinged creature with an evil smile that seems to follow you around the room
The third shelf is near empty except for a gift given by a close friend...more like an offering meant to encourage appeasement. A fine porcelain sake set is arranged artistically along the edge. Their depths are empty for now, but they will soon be filled with the bitter drink.
The shelf below that is quite small, but holds an important item. Upon tat shelf sits a jester's hat. The teal ends are decorated by bells, and the colour changes from blue to purple to black along it's length. Fish scales are embroidered over this. One day Demens will wear it, but for now it sits upon the shelf.
In the corner of the room there is a small pond, refilling itself endlessly from three tiny waterfalls. The water gurgles in counter with the chime that hangs above it, and inside swim five koi, though one seems more ephameral than the ohers. One by one they come to the surface, thier gaping mouths searching for nonexistant food, and one by one they disappear under the water again to circle in its shallow depths, swimming among shadows cast by the bamboo decorations.
Behind the pond a lone cage held by a curving stand holds a single butterfly. An orchid blooms below the insect, but as caged as it is it can never make it to the sweet necter it is constantly teased with.

Chayse's notebook, where his observations and entries for Demens in his aura stage are kept.

Demens' journal, where the windigo's reflections are put. Silver engravings decorate the corners of the midnight blue leather cover, and a silver tassle and koi charm hold the pages. No one would dare open this but the windigo himself. If the betterfly bites what might the book do?

Who: The hunter
Likes: Koi, bottles, sake, sushi, tricks, games, his plush koi
Dislikes: being forgotten, weakness, balled humans (women)
Personality: As an aura Demens is distant from his guradian, preferring to keep to himself. Although distant, he's not entered into the unfriendly territory, just the solitary kind. He enjoys teasing and annoying others, either windigo or humans, and lets this side of him out when he sees a nice 'victim'
Most of his day is spent by the pond in his lair, watching his koi or swimming with them. He views everything but these fish with a sense of fleeting interest which quickly turns into detachment as he finds something else to examine.
Though unrevealed, there is a deeper and darker side to his personality waiting to manifest itself when he has chosen and obtained a physical form.

Who: The prey
Age: 17
Likes: sake, sushi, himself, money, parties
Dislikes: Ayama, idiots, people who don't tip well, life
Description: Okugi is about average height at 5'7. He has green eyes, likely from some part of him that isn't entirly Japanese, and shaggy back hair that reached his shoulders at its longest points. Due to lack of money for excess food, he's a bit skinny. When not in his uniform he can usually be found in a style best described as 'light' punk/goth. He has no problems with a bit of makeup here and there, usually limited to eyeliner, and his clothes are often black.
Personality: Though he appears to be a slacker and underachiever ot anyone who has just met him, Okugi is a hard worker who earns every penny he gets, though what he gets isn't very much. In the kitchen of the restaurant he works at he is a cocky self-assured arrogant joker, but when he passes through the doors the customers see a polite young man serving them dinner.
Though prone to breaking a few rules here and there, like sipping sake between servings, he desperately tries to keep his life together. Living alone, on a small wage and paying for school on top of everything else gives him a snappy attitude and a quick temper.
Though not supersticious, he has a respect for the supernatural such as spirits and ghosts. His granfather, now dead, taught him that one should always be aware of and respect those not on the physical plane. Old Nodoka passed away some time ago, leaving his teachings behind, though Okugi never forgot them.

Who: A waiter at the restaurant, Okugi's rival and the 'rich b*****d'
Age: 18
Likes: money, girls, success
Dislikes: Okugi, poor people, worthlessness
Description: Ayama is about 6' tall and is Japanese in ethnicity. He has dark brown eyes and short hair that hangs down in perfectly combed and gelled spikes. Personality:

Who: A waitress at the restaurant. Okugi has a crush on her.
Age: 17
Likes: money, success, men
Dislikes: pathetic people, violence, cheap clothes

Her eyes are a light brown and her dark brown hair reaches mid-back, though she usually puts it up in either a ponytail or buns. Even while working she tends to wear lots of accessories such as bracelets and necklaces as well as many earrings. Her outside of work clothing generally reflects the street fashion of Japan: a myriad of colours and fabrics that somehow ends up looking perfect on her.
Personality:

101304 - Chayse was awarded Demens by some mysterious benefactor. Though he is greatful, Demens gives him the strangest feelings. As a an act of safety Chayse chose to relocate Demens to a more secluded residence, as was the aura's wish. Now to find one...
101404 - A suitable residence was found, and Chayse chose to decorate it with a few things that were found around the Asian sector of the city. The koi were against his better judgement at first, but considering how he reacted to them, it turned out ot be a good idea. Demens also met another aura, Neurotische. Along with this he annoyed two fully-grown windigo, Aubrey and Shin.
101704 - Early this morning Valkiyre dropped by with a few presents for Demens. He wisely listened to Chayse's advice and did not attempt to catch a peek at Demens. This was lucky for him, as Demens was trying to find something with which to satiate his appetite.
101804 - After some prodding by the one who gifted him with Demens, Chayse went on a search for Jester related items. He had been looking before, of course, but the one shop that had anything related to them also had a closed sign on its door. Luckily, accompanied by Valkiyre, Chayse managed to find a shop out of the Asian sector and purchased Demens a hat.
102004 - After a visit to the HQ Chayse is left with questions answered, but even more created. The possession is making him nervous, as his conscience is getting in the way. Demens, however, met a few new windigo and is starting to deliver more information about himself...mostly because Chayse is asking.
102204 - Chayse locked himself out of the house and was forced to spend some time with Demens. Lateri n the day the pair found themselves at the HQ awaiting a ride from Valkiyre and sharing take-out with Sika and a wounded Aubrey.
102804 - Chayse took Demens to the HQ in the hopes of socializing normally. These hopes however, were shattered by one owners nakedness. Though Demens seems unfazed, Chayse remains as red as his hair.

Day 01
Chayse is recording the actions of Demens, as aura's cannot write.
Today was eventful to say the least. I was approached by a complete stranger and given this...gift, of sorts. I suppose you could call it a gift.
You see, it's the floating aura known as a windigo. I know a bit about the legends surrounding windigo's, and they're not friendly creatures. This one seems to have chosen me as it's caretaker, so I suppose I don't have much of a choice, I don't want to make it angry.
So this aura, one that will eventually grow into a windigo, is now under my charge. He (I think it's a boy) can only communicate through images and an odd buzzing sound he makes when he's annoyed or angry. I've called him Demens, which is Latin for 'foolhardy' because I was told by the mysterious benefactor who gifted him to me, that he was to grow into a jester. I can only hope this means he has some sense of humour.
Demens seems to be very independent, of which I'm glad. I'm not quite sure how to handle him yet, so I've decided to relocate him to his own place. He seems to agree with me, but I can never be too sure.
Now I have ot find this place...

I can only hope this means he has some sense of humour.
Demens seems to be very independent, of which I'm glad. I'm not quite sure how to handle him yet, so I've decided to relocate him to his own place. He seems to agree with me, but I can never be too sure.
Now I have ot find this place...

Day 02
Chayse is recording the actions of Demens, as aura's cannot write.
I found a suitable home for Demens, and he seems pleased with it. It's a moderately busy Japanese restaurant on the fringes of the local Asian sector. I've managed to procure the basement for him. Unfortunatly, it seemed rather bare to me, so I went on a small shopping trip with Demens to see what I could do about brightening the place up a bit.
Being the Asian sector, I found a lot of Asian things that Demens seemed to like. He was attracted ot several lanterns in one of the stores I visited, but I've only purchased three for now. He seemed to like the store very much, and his favourite thing in it had to be a small silver plush koi. Ever since I bought it he's been constantly trying to possess it.
Against my better judgement I've purchased a few live koi as well, and they're being kept in a small pond in the corner of the room. Demens has shown no interest in possesing them, he just seems to like watching them.
A majority of things decorating the new place are from my storage room...things I bought because they were pretty, but never really had space to display. Demens seems to enjoy them, but with all the toys and substances in jars his home is becoming rather creepy.
After setting up his place and letting him explore for a while, I decided to once again visit the place from which he was gifted to me. While I was there I met a girl named Haiku, who was in much the same position with a new windigo aura. Demens and Neurotische, her aura, seemed to get along Ok. I'm afraid I wasn't paying much attention, since I'd fallen behind on my school readings. While my nose was stuck in a book, I still managed to meet the two full-grown windigo that inhabited the shop. It was a rather...unsettling experience. They are beautiful creatures, but I can't help but think that at least one of them would have made me his supper had I not been watching Demens.
As it was, Demens was having quite a bit of fun with them. I think he was living up to his future as a jester, because though he seemed to be amusing himself, neither of the others liked it much at all. Well, that is until one of them -I believe his name was Shin- laughed at Demens' pestering of the other windigo.
The night drew to a close and I made sure Demens was safely in his new home before I too went off to sleep and prepare myself for tomorrow

Valkiyre dropped by in the early morning after Chayse told him where Demens was being kept. He was curious about this new creature, but he'd been thuroughly warned not to interfere with him. Deciding that it would be best not to risk Chayse's wrath (since he was more afraid of him than the windigo) he left the box he'd been carrying at the doorstep and left quickly after grabbing some nigima from the restaurant.

Day 03
Chayse is recording the actions of Demens, as aura's cannot write.
I arrived at Demens' residence a little after noon to find that Valkiyre had already made a stop by. I was a bit worried whne I opened the door, afraid that Demens may have eaten him or somesuch, but he only floated over to me and circled the box curiously.
Valkiyre seems to have bought Demens quite a few things to use for decorating. Several lamps from the same store I aquired my original three now hangs from the walls. It gives the place a nice muted glow, and I have a feeling Demens is pleased by them, or at least slightly less indifferent than usual.
I put up another shelf today, just to hold things. It was difficult and akward on my own, but after wrestling with it I managed to nail it to the wall and make it level. When I tested it it didn't fall, so I hope it will stay reliably. Demens seemed to find my whole ordeal quite interesting and even amusing. I'm glad I amuse him...no, you cannot hear sarcasm in my voice...
On that shelf I placed the very pretty and very expensive-looking sake set Valk bought. I have a feeling Demens likes it as well, because he spent a good few minutes floating through it before hiding in it while I cleaned up.
I also had a chance to plant some bamboo around the pond and pretty it up a bit with some things Valk left me. He's so good to me. I think he's more afraid of me than of Demens, though I can't imagine why.
While I took a rest I made an effort to communicate with my windigo-to-be. He seemed content and spent a good while sending me picures of the people that went in and out of the restaurant. He's apparently been watching them. I'm uncomfortable with it...I don't like the idea of him possessing someone I suppose...but I guess it's necessary. It may een be beneficial for the human he chooses in the long run...not many people around here have it very well off.
He also seems to be quite interested in the foods they serve in the restaurant. I took the hint and bought him some sushi and nigima before I left with my take-out. I didn't want to stay around to watch him eat...he still gives me the shivers.

Day 04
Chayse is recording the actions of Demens, as aura's cannot write.
The lack of Jester items in this town is surprising, and rather annoying when you would really like some. I spent the better part of the morning travelling all over town, going into millions of shops, trying to find high-quality jester-realated items.
I found nothing.
I returned to Demens' abode to find Valkiyre sitting on the patio of the restaurant. I joined him for lunch and he told me of a store that, while out of town, sold beautiful fabrics and clothing. By this time I was tired as hell, but determined to find something despite my fatigue. It was only about an hour's drive away, and Valk offered to go with me.
My suspicions of him wanting me to try various things on for him was later confirmed.
Once we arrived I managed to find the hat section near the back. Lo and behold, I laid my eyes on the most beautiful jester's hat I had ever seen. The tailors in the store has amazing talent, and a conversation with the lone salesperson revealed that every item was handmade.
The hat was shaped in the typical jester fashion, but it was the colour and detail that caught my eye. Almost everything in Demens' 'lair' is blue or purple themed, and he seems not to mind. This hat faded from teal at its tips, to light blue, to purple, to royal blue, the the darkest black at the top. Embroidered scales covered it in matching thread, and silver bells hung from the very ends. Needless to say I had to have it, and Valk had to see me wear it.

The price was steep, but the quality was worth it. While it was being wrapped up I perused the rest of the store. Gorgeous pillows and robes and even kimono's decorated the racks and shelves. I have a feeling I'll be returning here more than once.
Then, of course, there was the obligatory trying-on of anything small and skimpy for Valkiyre. Maybe I'll feed him to Demens.
Valk had to go to work by the time we returned to town, so he dropped me off outside the restaurant. I picked up some dinner for myself and Demens and prepared to present him his new gift.
It took me a moment to find him, the trickster. I suspect it's becoming a game of his. He was hiding in the sake jug, and it only took me luring him out with food for a good ten minutes to discover that.
His reaction to the hat was...well, I suppose he liked it very much. He kept sending me mental pictures of it that were laced with...confirmation? I'm still getting used to his communications.
He spent some time examining it while I put up a small shelf just for it. During this time I sent him mental pictures of several items the shop had. He seemed to like quite a few, sending me those pictures back. I suppose I've gotten better at this communication thing.
I was about to throw the bag away when I noticed a small box in the bottom. Inside was a light blue amulet of sorts with foriegn writing. It certainly wasn't oriental or even Russian, which I'm vaguely familiar with.
I guess I'll return to the store to find out what it is, and if it was put here by mistake. For now it's handing under the shelf with the hat.

Day 05
Chayse is recording the actions of Demens, as aura's cannot write.
I spent some more time at the windigo...HQ today. I suppose it's the headquarters...
I had a nice conversation with the 'boss', the girl who gave me Demens. A few of my curiosities were laid to rest and some others were made worse, but at least I have more information now.
I learned there had been a fire there...I'm glad no one was hurt. Nothing seemed to have been lost in it, which is a very lucky thing.
Demens was more social than usual. He met a female aura named Koniro, and then another one named Lacroix. The latter I think he likes very much. Well...very much for him. I gathered he invited him over for sushi or something. I'm morbidly curious as to how that will go.
I think he also managed to annoy Shin once more. I hid my laughing quite well, I believe.
I've started an effort to learn more about him. Many of the other windigo seem more dependant on thier owners than Demens is with me. I've began trading more images with him. I know now that he likes the waiters in the restaurant. Maybe this is where he'll find a...host.
Lunacy, the 'boss' may have hinted at the possession taking place sometime around Halloween. I inquired about the details, and it seems Demens should be quite well left on his own.
I suppose I'll go home with Valkiyre after the party and...get the courage to check up on him in the morning to see if he's Ok.

Day 06
Chayse is recording the actions of Demens, as aura's cannot write.
This morning was rather uneventful until I headed home from class and foun I had forgotten my keys inside. I decided to visit Demens instead, and see if I could learn more abou him. So, I travelled downtown in order to while away the hours until I could get ahold of Valk to let me back in.
By the time I got to the restaurant I managed to figure out Valk wasn't getting off work until late, and I couldn't stop by to pick up the keys until then. Luckily though, he offered to let me stay at his place for the night, and then go home with the keys in the morning. I say luckily...reluctantly.
Anyway, I greeted Demens with some food fo both of us. After a brief sort of 'conversation' in which he went through all the possible 'candidates' in the restaurant, I set about tidying up the room a bit. The rest of the day was spent running a few errands around town with Demens in tow.
When it started to get late i decided to pop into the HQ. On my way out I was handed tons of food by one of the waiters, told it was the days' leftovers. Not one to deny myself free food, I took it to the HQ in the hopes of sharing it with someone. Luckily Sika was there, as well as Aubrey.
Aubrey didn't look like he was in good shape. Sika suggested his wounds were self-inflicted. I guess sometimes even windigo's suffer from things like that. I offered him some food though, despite my internal thoughts he might rend me limb from limb, and was rewarded with a conversation. Demens also seemed to behave himself, which I was glad for as he's been a trickster and annoyance to the bigger windigo's in the past.
Valk kne where I'd be, so it was a short while before he stopped by to pick me up. We dropped Demens off at his home before hightailing it to Valk's place so he could eat his food.
And that...that is where I stop recording the days' events.

Day 07
Chayse will be posting for Demens as auras cannot write.
Today was...odd. I spent a good part of my day at the HQ with Demens. He seems to have found a friend, or at least an amusement, in Lacroix. His owner however...Fluo I think her name is, is rather...
Well, she showed up wearing a towel. I got an eyeful, let me tell you.
Demens, for his part, seemed to not take too much interest in Aubrey this time. I don't think he's gotten much happier, Aubrey that is, but he didn't seem as morose as before. He also didn't take much interest in Anansi, who walked in a little bit after the naked thing started. She seemed different, not a windigo, but...I think she'd been partially possessed, but not fully yet, or something.
Lacroix seems to have a short attention span, even compared to Demens. He's forever buzzing off and around, while Demens was trying to lure him out for food. I suppose I'll be the one to order their meal for them and pay and everything.

The Meeting
Part 01
The following is the meeting of Demens and the boy who would be his host, Okugi Nodoka.
The text is altered somewhat from it's original to give it more of a flow and solid viewpoint. CWL typed to first bit of Okugi's actions.
Okugi Nodoka smirked to himself. He had finished his daily shift at the restraunt early, just for this, even going so far as to prepare for the party in the back of the kitchen. He flashed a cocky smile at the mirror, twirling a skull shaped bell attatched to his forest green jesters hat. It wouldn't be long before his bus showed up, and since that was the only transportation to the party he could afford, he'd better damn well catch it.
Demens had spent the early part of his day attending to his koi and exploring his lair. Once the lunch crowd to the restaurant upstairs made themselves known, he eagerly floated up the wooden stairs leading to the back entrance in the kitchen. The door was typically locked, but for a nonphysical being, floating through it was no problem. Today seemed like a nice day to begin his hunt in earnest, and he had his attentions on a few of the waiters.
After adding a line of dark eyeliner over his eyelid, he declared himself done. He practically bounced in excitement, but that would have been unseemly. Instead, it was only portrayed as a slight bounce to his step as he headed for the exit to the kitchen. He halted, however, when his eyes fell upon a tainted aura in front of what he'd always figured was the basement door.
Demens paused, inspecting the human in his path. This one was one of the boys on his list. It seemed he had a nice enough body, healthy, a decent attitude...in the aura's terms anyway. Unusually though, he seemed to be looking right at him. Not many of the others in the restaurant took much notice of him. There was an older chef that seemed to be distrubed by his presence more then others; many of the older and younger customers had a reaction to him as well, but none saw him.
Curious as to this new development, he floated up to the top of the door, wondering if this human would follow him with his eyes.
Okugi stepped back. Normally he was soothed by such presences, but this one felt...decayed, tainted. There was a wrongness about it that disturbed him to his core. He eyed it warily, his cheerful mood evaporated. There was a wall seperating him from the rest of the kitchen, this room mainly used to store uniforms, and he backed against it.
Ah, so the boy could see him. Well well, this could play out interestingly. Up to this point he had kept his distance, not often straying close to the workers or the customers unless he felt happily malicious, but now...now was different. He floated closer to the boy, pleased by his reaction.
As the aura floated closer Okugi winced, a horrible taste filling his mouth. He shifted to the side and, as soon as he was sure his legs would not give out, lept for the door seperating him from thr restaurant. Cold fear gripped him as he wrenched it open and took off through the mass of chefs, nimbly dodging platters and plates to exit the side door. It was only then, half stumbling, did he whip around to see if the presence had followed him. All he saw were two of his coworkers having a smoke and looking rather startled. He fell against the concrete wall across from them, panting heavily and keeping an eye on the door.
"Hey Nodoka, what the hell is wrong with you?" One of the pair called from his perch atop a barrel, Ayama. "Ghosts got you running?"
Okugi glared at him when he started laughing, but kept a wary eye to the door. "I'm late, that's all." He grumbled, pushing himself off the damp concrete and trying to regain some dignity.
"Nice costume," The girl, Kimiko, winked at him as she took a drag on her cigarette. "The boss wants you to stop by on your way home to make sure everything's locked up." She flicked some ask from the glowing end of her cig, "Since it's a night for rebels and everything."
Ayama smirked, cig hanging from his lips, "That is, if the ghosties don't get you first."
Okugi practically snarled at the other male. He straightened his hat, and sighed, walking past them. "Hai hai, tell the old bugger I'll stop by. It'll be late though."
"Oh, don't take it so bad!" Kimiko called as Okugi passed, "The rumours have got everybody jumpy lately."
"I'm not jumpy, Kim, I'm in a hurry." He snapped, and turned the corner on them, avoiding the urge to check behind him.
It was true, the rumours of the haunting had gotten everyone on edge. Kids got easily scared, the old people started talking. Hell, even Ichiba, the chef, had been warning people about 'the evil'. No one liked being in the changeroom at the back, and no one knew what was behind that door. The stories were getting out of hand, even business was suffering...and that couldn't happen. Hell, business wasn't spectacular in the first place, and living off minimum wage and tips when you were trying to put yourself through some half-rate school was even worse.
Okugi crossed the road, dodging a cyclist, and leaned against the bus stop. He could see the bus down the street, so it wouldn't be long.
Out in fresh air like this, with the lights of the restaurant and the other shops flashing, and the moon and the sun in the middle of trading places, it didn't seem like what had happened had been real. The more he thought about it, the more he stocked it up to the sake he'd been sipping between orders. There was a good chance it had been bad, but despite the bitter taste, it had been easier to work while on a buzz. Yeah, he'd stop by tonight, make sure everything was in order, and tell himself how much of an idiot he was.
Unsurprised by the human actions, Demens had amused himself by watching the creature dart away while he just floated there. Hm...this boy...well, the chase had already started. It seemed like this one would be a good target.
The aura drifted slowly through the kitchen in the direction Okugi went. Staying just inside the door, he heard snippets of the conversation outside. He was delighted by the prospect of the boy's early return. The veil between the living and the dead was thin tonight, and would make his possession much easier. Without Chayse stopping by, as the young 'master' had himself occupied with a party of sorts, it should go smoothly indeed.
Now, of course, was the problem of luring the boy into his clutches...which was really not a problem at all. Tricks would do, tricks would do well.

The Meeting

The Meeting
Part 02
The moon was begginging to pack it's things by the time Okugi returned from the party. The boy swayed down the lonely sidwalk, only a few people passed him. No one was out at 4:00am. For many it was too late, for many more it was way too early.
The restaurant was on his way home, and as the buses weren't running, he had been forced to walk the distance from the party. Needless to say that, even in his slightly inebriated state, he was grumpy. When the sidewalk started flashing red and orange the boy finally looked up, watching the lights double, then solidify...sort of.
"Prolly shouldn'a had that last batch..." He mumbled, and stumbled up the steps to the door of the extablishment. It took him a few moments of pushing against the door and one sore foot from kicking it before he realized someone had locked it. It took him another five minutes to realize that it was supposed to be locked, and that he had a key. A few moments later he was finally able to get the key in the hole and open the door, only to stumble inside. Now what the hell was he here for?
Oh, right...to make sure nothing was wrong. Those stupid teenage partiers out on Halloween night, wrecking things and getting drunk.
The irony of his thoughts were lost on him in his drunken state, and he pushed himself back out of the chair, stumblimng back outside and down the steps.
A quick view of the restaurant from the outside showed that nothing had been spraypainted like last year. The left alley had a few pumkin pieces that he'd be damned if he were going to clean up. They did look funnily like split heads though, and smelled rancid, which made his stomach roll unpleasantly. He turned and checked the right alley, but found the streetlamp lighting it to be out.
"********' city workers...too damn lazy t'come out here an' fix..." He trailed off from his grumblings when he spied a light on under the door at the back of the alley. It had a strange flickering quality to it, like fire. In his inebriated state Okugi thought that maybe the chef had left the stove on, and the kitchen was burning.
With a garbled curse he scrambled over the barrels and into the alley. When he got to the door he gave a powerful yank, which proved completely pointless as it wasn't locked. The unexpected feedom made him stumble backwards, but his grip on the door kept him up (barely) and he threw himself into the kitchen.
Only, it wasn't the kitchen, and there were stairs. His reflexes usually quite good, were hampered by three rounds of jello-shooters, two beers, and a vodka cooler, and he tumbled head over heels down the stairs. Fortunatly the flight was quite short, only four steps, and deposited him on his back with no serious injuries but quite a lot of bruises. He groaned and stared up at the ceiling, shutting his eyes quickly to the brightness. He was able to ease them open again to figure out what the hell he was staring at, and it took him a moment to recognize the glowing object as a lamp. With another groan he pushed himself up, checking to make sure nothing was broken, and looked around. There were many lamps in this new place, each differently coloured than the last. He felt behind him clumsily, and picked up his jester's hat, which had fallen off his head in the dive he took.
"Where the hell..." came the slurred words and confused look as he pushed himself to his feet. His black hair fell around his shoulders and rubbed his neck. He knew, even drunk, that he would hurt in the morning, and not just from the hangover. Deciding that being in someone's apartment -someone's apartment that definately wasn't the kitchen- was not a very polite thing, he turned to pull himself up the stairs. The idea of sleeping in the restaurant was slowly forming in his fuzz-and-tumbled mind, but it was immediatly forgotten when he found the door at the top of the stairs locked.
The handle would turn without hinderance, but the door wouldn't open. He coiuld push and kick at the wood, make all the sound he liked, and nothing would move. He went on about this for a good time before he entertained the possibility that maybe it opened inward. He tried that.
It didn't work.
His next idea was Ayama had placed something outside the door. Why Ayama? Cause the rich b*****d hated him, the damn prep. The only reason he was working at the restaurant was because he needed some apprenticeship for a culinary school he was entering. Godamn him and his money, his car, his decent education, and god damn him for having such a ******** nice a**. Okugi kicked the door hard, which only resulted in him losing his balance and landing on his back on the floor at the bottom of the stairs once more. This time his foot hurt too.
It took him longer to get up this time, and he pulled his knees to his chest and rested his head on them to ward of the dizzy nausea he was getting. Maybe he didn't hate Ayama because he was rich, or because he had a sweet ride, or even because he had a promising future. Well, he did hate him for all that, but if the other waiter wasn't such an insufferable a*****e the two of them might have actually gotten along. They were very alike in personality, Okugi reflected as his vision cleared, but maybe he just hated him because he thought he was cute.
God, wouldn't that be the clincher. Kimiko was cute too, but she was a girl, and it was perfectly fine to think that...wait, she was dating Ayama. There was another reason to hate him. Maybe Kimiko's cuteness was just rubbing off on him.
"Maybe I'm just too ********' drunk this time..." He slurred, and cautiously lifted his head. His eyes took a moment to focus on the floated mass of smoke before him. The constantly moving black and green tendrils confused his eyes and he had to blink a few times.
Then the cold cold terror set in.
