Jackalopes

Jackalopes are rabbits with the antlers of a deer. They have been considered a fairytale animal and begin to appear in the 1500s. Though a fairytale, rabbits do rarely develop a disorder that causes horns to grown from the skull, which makes very unhappy rabbits. The Jacklopes rather love their antlers, as they are their best defensive weapon.

They tend to enjoy living in herds where they are able to fend off most predators, but they also can run extremely quickly. Despite their cute looks, their antlers and break next speeds make their head-butts very dangerous. These Jackalopes have reduced hormones to eliminate unneeded breeding and aggressive behavior in the males. To breed your Jackalope you will have to rent a breeding paddock and buy hormone pills for the Jackalopes.

Jackalopes do not living in burrows and prefer open spaces. They never shed their antlers, but they can break with age.

The Paddocks and Manor

The Jackalope Paddock has several small barns each filled with stales designed just for Jackalope life. Their antlers prevent them from using burrows so they are most comfortable in a more open space with soft bedding. Every barn has two paddocks on either side. The paddocks are specially labeled for certain age groups, but there are a few paddocks that contain all ages. There are a few double staled barns attach to small paddocks for breeding purposes. The fences surrounding the breeding paddocks are very strong to prevent ill tempered males from escaping.

The main place for owners is around the manor which is a large country house. Most of the first floor is open to visitors and well behaved pets. Generally Jackalopes are left in the paddocks to socialize, while their owners are in the manor. Food and drinks are available for owners and pets on request at the kitchen.

One morning I received a letter from a dear friend down in the western united states. He beckoned me to visit him since he has something extraordinary to show me. Not being one to deny one of my dearest friends I obeyed and hopped on the next flight I could.

Upon the arrive at his ranch I noted something strange. There were normal six foot high fences surrounding the ranch and no doubt went several feet into the ground to deter predators. That was normal, but when I entered the ranch the rest of the fences were small three foot tall fences and looked as if they went deep underground as well. How strange I thought. My curiosity and creativity got the better of me and I assumed he was breeding miniature ponies. This excited me! I'm rather fond of ponies!

My friend greeted me as I stared into the fields to see what was lurking in the paddocks. He quickly said I would find nothing in the paddocks today, he had left them in the barn to surprise me. My heart quickened with excitement as we scrambled up to the barns. I was forced to close my eyes as she shoved me into the dark dust barn. When I opened my eyes was almost disappointed! Rabbits! Tons of them just hopping around with cute expressions. That's when I noticed something off! The rabbits had antlers! I pointed with a shocked look on my face, and he laughed at me.

He told me of the legends of Jackalopes. A wise breed of rabbit or hare that carried with it antlers and was well known in the west. Flabbergasted at his discovery I watched them as the hopped out of the barn into an opened paddock. He told me they weren't as special in this area due to the legends and he was having little success finding owners for them.

He also mentioned that though these Jackalopes were tame they weren't always. Thanks to hormone reductions he was able to make the male Jackalope less aggressive, making it a wonderful pet. He warned me that if I gave a male Jackalope a hormone pill for breeding (this being the only way they could reproduce) I would find it difficult to handle him and his aggressiveness would arise. Luckily the Jackalopes have ball tipped antlers which won't cut flesh, but they can give a nasty whack to anyone or any Jackalope. They were well known for knocking each other out when rutting!

After a close discussion of the Jackalopes I agreed to open shop back home to find his Jackalopes owners. He would send me a few babies every month to sell and taught me the necessaries of breeding.

So that's how I came to own the little guys.

Races

The races are by age group and will last only a few minutes. The speed varies for each age group. The only age group that isn't allowed to take part is the basket/bundle stage. They are far too small and frail to take part.

Cheering your Jackalope on is always good. They will run better with their owners support. There is a grid map of the race that will be displayed once the race begins. The animation will show each step of the race and will end with the winner.

2-6 Jackalopes can take part in each race.

Breeding Jackalopes requires two things, the renting of a breeding paddock and a hormone candy. Originally the breeding candy was in pill form, but it was difficult to make the males take it, so we made a sweeter version. Breeding is carefully controlled because male Jackalopes are extremely aggressive when breeding.

Thus they are locked in a paddock and small weatherized stale with the female of their choice. Now don’t be worried about the female. They have antlers designed to parry a male’s head butt. They are very successful at flipping males to either side. Some are even enthusiastic enough to flip the males right over them.

You are encouraged not to around while breeding. A male will attack the side of the paddock and could escape to attack even a loving owner.

Also encouraged is breeding a pair that know each other, a male is less likely to be highly aggressive against a female he knows. Throwing two that don't know each other (therefore were never role-played with each other before) can result in disaster. Don't worry if this happens though. We will give the female fine medical treatment and credit you for the next breeding session.

Do you need a name for my Jackalope?
Yes! Unless you want it to be nameless.

Do I need to roleplay?
No, but I highy suggest it if you want to be included in some of the future story lines. You can roleplay in the shop thread for now.

Why bumble bees?
The most revered things to a Jackalope are bees. Surprisingly enough, Jackalopes have great respect and love for those stinging buzzing little creatures. You may be curious to know why, but it’s very simple. Bees pollinate flowers, fruit, and other plants. They are the bringers of spring and summer beauty. Thanks to them the Jackalopes live in rich landscapes and eat rich foods from the earth. They are ecstatic at the site of anything that remotely resembles a bee. Thus their favored currency is called Bumble Bees. A Jackalope with a Bumble Bee, or anything resembling one, is a highly revered and admired.
