Hello, and welcome to the world of the <b>lykin</b>. Werewolf in nature and design, they arrive as four-legged creatures, no different from an ordinary dog or cat. But with the coming of the full moon they are suddenly gifted with intelligence equal to that of a human, as well as human needs, drives, and conflicts of morality.

Lykin come with a journal, meaning an owner may keep a journal <b>as</b> them, and use them as they wish. However, if you do not post, you will not be penalized. Thanks to Anya! of the Fa'e for this concept. :3


<b>Ranks</b>:
Based on their personality, each lykin is given a rank. The most strong-minded and leader-material 'kin are Alphas, steady and loyal 'kin Betas and Gammas, others the subordinates, and a rare few the omegas-- the pariahs, outcasted from society.

While there is no formal 'pack' (though your lykin may chose to form some sort of social structure of the like), the boundaries will most likely be obvious in roleplay. Of course, in their anthro forms, they have human intelligence, and with that comes the will to rise above ones station and self...

Lykin are changing pets. They posess two forms, their quad, or four-legged, and their anthro, or two-legged form.

In their quad form, they are little more than animals. They resemble their other form greatly, but have none of its intelligence. This is also their natural form, being the one they were born in, and the one they will return to at death.

In their anthro form, however, they are as smart as humans, if a bit more reliant on instinct, and prone to violent behavior. They become this form on the day of the full moon.

<b>Casual Roleplay</b> may be done in this thread. Use it as you will!

<b>Other Roleplay</b>, such as plots that will take many days to continue, may be roleplayed in the RP Thread or in your lykin's journals if you wish.

<b>NPCs, and other characters</b> are allowed into the roleplay, but only for "lurkers", or regulars, who show much dedication to them and the thread. More info on this will be posted in the NPC section of the RP thread.


<b>Setting</b>:

The setting will take place in an alternate universe to our own, basically, in which anthro-ized animals take the place of humans. Our own particular setting can be thought of as a mix between a rural and suburban town surrounded by forest: it isn't a tiny village, but it isn't a small city. The center of town is perfectly civilized, with its commerical areas, local government buildings, two high schools-- one public, one religious-- and scatterings of churches and shrines.

The outskirts of town, however, become less and less civilized as they continue, extending into the deep, forested mountain terrain that surrounds the town and cuts it off from the rest of society. Many people live out here, though the actual number is unknown. There are said to be strange settlements in the forest, after the roads stop.

The weather is most akin to New England weather, with its extreme seasons: very hot summers, very cold, snowy winters. The moon is always very large and clear, leading locals to claim that the town was made closer to the sky than any other. Many myths exist regarding this phenomena, and many stories circulate about creatures that gravitate to their town around the full moon. More superstitious families wont allow children out in the days before the full moon.

You are encouraged to make use of any NPCs created, and even create your own.


<b>The Lykin</b>:

When the lykin change, their state is something akin to amnesia. They can't recall what happened before, except perhaps a few hazy memories, yet they still know how to function, and even their name. How they continue to exist in this world is up to you. There are lykin who have already adjusted, and live in town (Pi, Elsi), and the townspeople will be sympathetic to your cause.

Feel free to roleplay your lykin as if they had been anthro for a while now.

Some may experience "past life" episodes, meaning they were anthro at another point in their life, but for some reason were changed back. This can explain certain skills, but for the most part, a lykin shouldn't be able to recall their full past.

Reasoning for the existance of the lykin is something unknown and often disputed. The town is full of lykin and part-breeds, their children with normal people, and certain rumors exist there. Some take a religious approach, and a cult may exist to worship the moon. Others say it's a genetic disorder or even something passed by blood or biting. Whatever the cause, the town has taken a "don't ask, don't tell" approach to lykin and "amnesiac" strangers in general.

Just like any animal, lykin can fall in love and have 'kin of their own. Breeding is open at all times, but you can't simply request it.

Breeding will occur as follows:

Both owners must RP their lykin, and over time, prove that they are in love, or at least in the mindset to procreate. When one of our staff sees this, you will receive a PM from chavi asking if you are interested in another lykin. If the answer is yes, then congrats! Soon, your lykin will be proud parents. whee

The owner of the child must pay a 4k midwife's fee.

There are a few simply rules to lykin breeding:

1. <b>Both</b> owners <b>must</b> RP. This is obvious... ^_^;
2. There will usually only be <b>one offspring</b>-- twins are rare. You must decide who will take it on your own, before the birth.
3. A lykin female can only give birth <b>twice</b> in her lifetime. Her second child can't be conceived until her first has grown up. Males, however, may breed as many times as they wish.
4. Lykin may breed with non-lykin characters. The result will be a half-breed.
5. Same-sex pairings have the option to adopt (or give birth? If you're that crazy...). The fee still applies.

<b>Lykin Children</b>:

Lykin children do not shape shift like their parents. They are born as children, and grow after a while into their adult forms. To grow, they must be RPed. Though considering how curious children are... it shouldn't be too hard. :3

Status: <b>Open</b>

Yes, in the same spirit of other threads, I have established a customs policy of my own. Now it is possible to quest for a custom lykin if you are unlucky in other sales, or have your heart set on a lykin that you want to make a reality. ^^ The cost for a custom lykin will be <b>200k</b>-- steep, yes, but not impossible!

When ordering a custom, you decide every piece of them, but I reserve the right to deny any applications that would truly conflict with the lykin world if ever RPed. Don't worry, I doubt that would ever need to happen; you'd pretty much have to <b>try</b> to make me deny you.

If you are interesting in purchasing a custom, please <b>PM chavi with details</b>. I will get back to you, and if everything is OK, you may send the trade. It will not be accepted until the lykin is finished and ready for certing.
