Right, let's try this again.
This poll is from my thread on generalisations - people were talking about getting random samples of those online to see if the majority are from the USA. So, I thought I'd make a poll.
I'll make one in GD and CB as well, assuming they don't start getting annoyed at me. So please don't vote in those if you've voted in this, and vice versa.

As for the discussion part, I think there's plenty to dicuss here wink

I've said "from the USA" this time, since there seems to be a problem with my using "American"?
There shouldn't be a problem with sayig American. We (by we I mean Americans) are American.
There is no big confusion on witch content your talking about when you call The USA, America.
On the original version of this thread, someone asked me to change it, something about how there are two Americas? I suppose they mean south as well?
Eh, but I'm talking about the USA, so best to be safe.
I wonder if we should talk about what kind of results we're expecting...
Well generalizing being fun and all I'd say that you'll find most people to not exist in the fifty-some states. Why? Because most people on here are open-minded caring individuals with sharp wits.
Hm.
So far it seems that an equal amount are in the ED, more non-Americans in GD, and more Americans in CB.
I wonder if we could make some kind of relation there. I don't know what that could be though xd

There is some stink raised when "American" is used specifically and exclusively to mean "From the United States." I think it's somewhat unwarranted, as all other nations in the Americas have another name by which their people can be called. The United Mexican States? Mexican. Canada? Canadian. Federative Republic of Brazil? Brazilian.
So what about the United States of America? The only practical solution is "American." Most of the English-speaking world recognizes this.

Yeah, I'd never heard objections to it before now.

Did you read my other thread, vry? =D

Nah, I don't venture outside of ED except to check up on Q&F or price items in the Exchange.
*psst* Why the heck are you whispering?

I meant my "please stop generalising, AMERICANS SUCK" one here in ED

Ah, nope I haven't seen that one. Link?
Make with the voting, people.

There are more people in Europe then in America, so I don't think most of the people here are American. And then there's also Asia, Africa, Australia and Canada..
Though it could be that a higher persentage of the American population are on this forum than the rest of the world
Nope, not from America. (or the USA, if we're being a**l-retentive today).

However, asking this question on any predominately English-speaking internet forum would, I assume, turn up a hell of a lot of Americans. Because the USA is huge and ridiculous amounts of people live there.
Meh...should have told the objecting person to deal with it. The other America she was referring to had to be South America....which is a continent, not a country. People living in countries in South America are not referred to as being American or being from America, just as Candians or Mexicans are not referred to as such either (being from North America). America is in the name of the country, and therefore it's generally accepted that it's citizens are referred to as Americans.
One could argue that people from countries in Asia are referred to as Asians, but then again, there aren't two Asia's, nor a country with Asia in it's name.
