Welcome! This is F.I.S.H., the Fisherman's Item Salespricing Helper. We're a user-operated priceguide exclusively for fishing related items that can be gained as a result of the GAIA Fishing game. We are not perfect in our pricings, but we do try to be.

Do not take our name wrong, we are not just for fishermen but also for fisherwomen. :] And, we do not support downcasting other priceguides, so let's all get along eh? Using multiple priceguides in your pricing of items can help increase pricing efficiency and accuracy. wink

So, feel free to also hop over to G.E.N. (the Gaia Exchange Network) and use their prices as well. ^^ If there is another pricing guide with prices on fishing products (Market-based prices) feel free to tell us.

Q. What is the purpose of this priceguide?
A. The purpose of this priceguide is to give easily accessible prices of fishing related items. We are not meant to control prices or replace common sense.

Q. Why isn't this linked to in the stickies yet?
A. In order for a price guide to be listed in one of the stickies (the Gaia Exchange one for example), it has to have been proven to be successful to some level. If they just put up links to threads that fail in a week, what good are they? They have to make sure we are worthy first. wink

Q. Can I bump the thread?
A. Until we are stickied or linked to in a sticky, there is no reason not to bump. When we are we will add no bumping to the F.I.S.H. rules. However, please only bump if it's been pushed off of the first page.

Q. Will you buy/sell to me?
A. If we were a store, auction, or buyer we would, but we're not! We just list prices. Please go to the Fish Market forum for exchanging items. Do not exchange items in the Fishing Forum.

Q. How can I help?
A. One way to help is to forward your PM's from the admin account that you get when you sell fishing related items in the marketplace. Please forward them to the account Grand Fisher, not any members of the F.I.S.H. staff. If you don't want to do this, you can also post links and information here in the thread.

Q. How can I join staff?
A. If you are continually submitting prices and links, you may be asked to join. Also, if you demonstrate an ability or skill that might be considered useful to F.I.S.H., we may accept you into staff. Don't just ask to be in staff. Make us want you in. Show us what you have that we can use.
Note: This does not mean you can't ask. If you ask, please provide us with some reasons why you would be beneficial to F.I.S.H.

Q. Your proof isn't good enough!
A. Please understand that we try our best when providing proof. As fish cannot be traded in the Exchange like other items, it is a different process to keep track of fish sold in the Marketplace. Also, sometimes we don't get links when people report prices to us.

Q. How do I write and submit an essay to F.I.S.H.?
A. Simply write an essay of at least two or three paragraphs that concerns fishing and/or the fishing marketplace. We do accept fishing guides but only ones of great worth. Essays shouldn't be short and should be very clear and concise. Grammar is your friend, 1337, CAPS, blinding colors, and BIG LETTERS aren't. sweatdrop Also remember that we're not looking for essays with extremely high vocabulary. We want our essays to be understandable to the majority of Gaians. And heck, we're fishers, not english majors...most of us, anyway.

Q. How often do you guys update?
A. As often as we can. Sometimes it may take a while because we have to find several sources for all of the fishing items.

    Some Tips::
  • Read the directions
  • Use Ctrl + F or Edit -> Find to search for specific items quicker
  • Read the disclaimer
  • Do not sell common items (rods/bait) for above store price (it's scamming)
  • Do not sell caught items and fish exchange items for less than sellback (you lose money)

Bass'ken Lake is where you can find the easiest fish to catch. The fish here are worth the least and require the least effort to catch. However, the fish here are not more or less rarer than fish in other fishing areas. The odds of encountering one of Bass'ken's rare fish, for example, are the same as encountering one of the Reclamation Facility's rare fish.

The fish of the Durem Reclamation Facility are prized as being extremely difficult to catch. However, with the right bait and rod, they can get to be easy with enough practice. Note that the common, uncommon, large, and rare fish, as well as junk, appear here with the same rarity as in other areas. It is just extremely difficult to capture the more rare fish, so most people tend to catch junk and small fish.

Junk appears everywhere and isn't exclusive to any one place. All junk has pretty much the same chance of appearing (they do vary a little in how often they appear). Choosing better bait can decrease your chances of coming accross junk while playing a game. Junk is extremely easy to catch and appears very often, making it worth very little. However, junk has patterns of movement just like other fish, and it is possible to learn to avoid catching junk.

Trophies are prizes granted to the greatest of fishers each month. It can be considered a true honor to work hard and earn a rank high enough to deserve one. In order to play GAIA Fishing! you must own at least one fishing rod. It does not need to be upgraded. You do not have to equip it as you will be able to choose a rod to use within the game. Each rod is upgradable and each have different costs as well as advantages and disadvantages. Some are better in some places than others and some are better at catching certain fish than others. Everyone has their favorite but the best thing to do is use your own common sense and find the one best for you.

Each time you try to play GAIA Fishing! the game requires you to own at least one bait of any kind. One game will always cost only one bait (since it is actually a bag of bait). Right now there are no Grade B and Grade C fish bait. Each bait has it's own advantages and disadvantages, and even the lowest bait (Grade F) can work well when used strategically. Remember that you don't have to have the best bait to fish good, but better bait will bring in better fish.

User ImageGrade A Fish Bait
Store Price: 250 gold each

Inventory Description:
The package reads:
'This fish bait is rated Grade A - A delicacy to any species in or out of water.'
OMG, with this bait I'll have MUCH better chances of scoring better fish all the time!

User ImageGrade D Fish Bait
Store Price: 100 gold each

Inventory Description:
The package reads:
'This fish bait is rated Grade D - Fit For Human Consumption - Suitable for fish and other marine wildlife.'
A step up from grade F, I'm pretty sure I'll have better chances of catching better fish using this stuff.

User ImageGrade F Fish Bait
Store Price: 25 gold each

Inventory Description:
The package reads:
'This fish bait is rated Grade F - Not Fit For Human Consumption - Suitable for fish and other marine wildlife.'
Hey, better than nothing.

FAQ

Please only PM price reports to Grand Fisher. It might not be okay with a staff member if you PM them with things regarding F.I.S.H., as our staff tend to be very busy around Gaia and have a bunch of stuff already filling their inboxes. ^^ However, if there is a problem significant or urgent enough to PM rather than post in the thread, please do so.

GAIA Fishing!
Fishing Q & A Thread::
Post questions here and we'll try to help as best I can.

The Gaia Fish Calculator::
The FishCalc will quickly total up all your fish and display gold and point worths for each one separately, along with a grand total down below for each location, and a total of everything added together at the bottom. The last tab, Expenses, calculates how much profit you've made off of a particular batch of fish and bait.
Starting with v2.0, the Fish Calc can save and load data and give you a nice TXT format verion of your data.

The Comprehensive Fishing Guide::
"I've seen plenty of fishing information threads, and they are all either incomplete, inaccurate, or just plain sloppy and hard to read. I have started this thread to gather all of the available information into a single, well-organized space."

E.V.I.L.= Estimated Value Items List::
We started as a Exchange Price Guide in Febuary 2004, after several incidents with the Exchange servers eating threads we moved into the GGN and have grown into a 630+ member Guild which is also home to Safehaven Charity.
