nothing really...

i just want to ask the people how they want their battles to be conducted. I mean... were here in an RPG world, what, just talking to each other?anyway...

here are my suggested battle types:

1. art battle: both fighters post a new art piece and people vote for it.
2. post battle: first person to reach a certain number of post wins. or first person to make a certain number of posts after the challenge is accepted wins.
3. item battle: first person to get certain item from the shop wins.
4. real battle: now i have another spot for those rules...

anyway whoever wins these battles must have some sort of reward like gold or another item.

now for the real battle:

this is kinda tricky... because anyone can just post anything and blah blah nobody will really win, right? well let's make it somewhat like magic the gathering:

the challenger and the challengee will set 10 abilities. 4 of these abilities will be called hidden abilities, while the other 6 are the known abilities.

the person who challenges posts his list of 6 known abilities. the challenged then posts his 6 known abilities. if both agree to the list of abilities, the battle will commence. the list of abilities must have an attack value (AV) and a defense value (DV). the siginificance will be explained later.

another classification of abilities are level 1, 2, 3. these correspond to the rounded up average of the attack and defence value of an ability. for example: AV1;DV2 will make the ability a level 2 ability. AV3;DV1 is also a level 2 ability. note: AV2;DV0 is a level 1 ability.

battlers are allowed only 2 level 3 abilities per battle, 3 level 2 and 5 level 1's.

note: when placing a list please say if the ability is a level 1, 2, or 3 ability.

the challenger will then be the first one to post his ability to be used. the defender will then be able to choose which ability he will use to counter it and defend himself. damage will be comupted by attack value of one ability minus defence valueof the other ability. note: this is a two way damage. therefore the defender will also end up damaging the attacker when the defence is chosen. this is the first round.

in the next round the one who defended earlier will be the attacker and vice versa. the same procedure above will commence. the first person to attack in each round will alternate, so in the first round player 1 attacks and player 2 defends, while in the next round player 2 attacks player 1 defends and so on and so forth.

each ability can only be used once, so think about how your strategy will go.

HP per person: maybe 10 HP will do. the damages computed above will be subtracted from the HP of the battlers. first person to lose all HP loses. if all the abilities have been exhausted, the person with the higher HP wins.

here is an example ability list:

Sky Diver, AV4;DV0, LV2
Flash, AV1;DV1, LV1
Slash, AV1;DV1, LV1
Lucky Slash, AV2;DV0, LV1
Lightning Strike, AV2;DV2, LV2
Stunner, AV0;DV2, LV1

and my hidden (but of course you should not really post this)

Overhaul, AV5;DV1, LV3
Mega Shield, AV0;DV6, LV3
Void Sphere, AV3, DV1, LV2
Arm Shot, AV0, DV1, LV1

here is an example battle post:

ability: Overhaul, AV5;DV1, LV3

I decided to use my trump card. Vicky torrent was alredy beginning to get into my nerves. I paused, concentrating on my skill... then i let it go...

"OVERHAUL!"

battle status:
Ray Clayton, HP 6

so the post per action requires the player to put down his or her current HP. i wanted the number of abilities left also posted, but i guess keeping it hidden adds to the thrill. also the storyline is not required... but it would be a good idea if it is put there to create a little battle atmosphere.

of course as usual there are other people watching the scence who can act as referees as well as spectators. once someone if found cheating he is automatically defeated. cheating includes using a third LV3 ability, or taking back a move.

whew!

tht was a long post and i don't think there would be people reading this thing unless they cared... but anyway hope someone can consider and maybe implement something. lol

i thought of this idea of having certain "ability" and "magic" cards in the shop, which can be posted and used in a certain battle arena thread Though you'll need to purchase them, they'll play almost like "trump cards"

But that's all i got for now...
i also thought of that too, but as long as there is no shop like that i guess we can't do a thing yet...

errata: if damage is negative it is zero.

e2J
errata 2:

you don't need to place the level of the ability on the post made. it was supposed to facilitate the counting of the abilities, but i guess taking it out adds thrill.

still think monkey island style.... or momma jokes biggrin
rock paper scissors razz
fastest to write post battle i think are rather lame, roleplay should be based on quality rather than posting as fast as possible.

i used to roleplay in some forums and chatrooms and the system they used was pretty cool.. if a little slow when both people are not present but i was kinda fun..
it goes like this:

Post in turns, so player 1 posts then player two then back to player one again.. or if its more than two fighters you go player one, then two then three ect till everyones had a turn then you repeate the same order again and again untill victory is achived

No more than five actions per turn (may want to reduce that a bit)
every action you make counts towards your total, so running up to someone and then makeing a flurry of punches towards them, then leaping back and blowing them to smitherines with a kamehameha wave attack would either be four actions, one for reaching your target, one for the flurry of punches, and so on
or two actions, the flurry of punches and the enegy blast (depending on what appeals to most people)

No Ko's or victory untill every fighter has posted at least three times (so you can start trying to KO them on the third post)

to avoid lots of arguments a neutral ref should be chosen at the start of the fight to decide the victor or perhaps setting up a poll like how XFACTOR and SPUKEE have set

people need to acutaly be fair and not tasteless cheaters when it comes to fighting or youll just have one or more "invincible" fighters dukeing out till the end of time, so try to keep the idea that each fighter is equally strong as the other.. i dont mean physical strength alone, i mean that the fighters are equally matched, so one may be very light on his feet, while anouther fighter may be slower but stronger

you can fight in either first or third person, so it would be "i take a wild swing at your jaw" or "he takes a wild swing at your jaw"

example of a fight

player one: the elite street fighter squares up against his female opponent, assumeing his typical martial art stance he prepares himself for the fight of his life, looking the girl once over he asseses her strengths and weaknesses, in the blink of an eye he charges towards her, drawing back his right hand he closes it tightly into a fist before he sends it streaking into her stomach, the blow knocking the wind from the girl, she doubles over leaveing herself unguarded, takeing the advantage he links his hands together and smashes them across the back of her neck sending her violentaly to the ground, he laughs and kicks her once while shes down before stepping back a few paces, from the looks of it, this was going to be an easy match

(note: all the stuff about him sizeing up his opponent was just to set the mood, it didnt take up any actions, however the running, punching, and kicking all took up an action, i made five "combat" actions in that post if you include running at her and takeing a few steps back after the kick as actions)

player 2: the young girl bites down on her gumsheild, looking across the arena towards her male opponent, he didnt look so tough, the type with a tub of gel on his hair and two tubs between his ears, she waited for him to make his first move, and that was a mistake, after takeing a beating she hit the ground hard, the back of her head throbbing from her opponents blow, seeing the guys foot comeing to kick her while she was down she acts fast, shifting her weight forward to her hands she flips into a crouched handstand, his foot missing her she moves again, seeing an opening she springs upwards, slamming her bare heel into his nose, the blow takeing him somewhat by surprise added with the force of the hit sends him staggering backwards, pushing the attack she lands on her feet and leaps towards him, slamming her knee into his gut as she sails past, she lands neatly behind him in a crouch, he turns to face her but too late, as she sweep kicks the air right out from under him sending him falling to the hard stone floor

(Note: player two didnt take all the damage that player one "tryed" to inflict upon her, thats because you can dodge, counter, attack, move or a combination of all four when makeing your five actions, just remember that the fighters are both equaly matched so you can't just dodge every attack your oponant throws at you, try to view the combat as a small play, but played serisouly)

sorry for the mass post there people.. i hope this proves usefull or inspireing for you guys and girls
if theres any questions ect just ask biggrin
Well as far as that invincible fighters go, all characters abilities should been placed in the thread and if anything question is done then we refer back to that characters abilities and see if they can do that.
Hmm. This seems interesting. I like Chylde's emphasis on the roleplay a lot, but I don't know what to think of ez2jar's system. It's neat to be able to create one's own attacks and skills, but how would one classify an ability as a certain level, and how would one keep the battles balanced? Constantly chucking super-mega-blasty spells or some other such abilities isn't going to give an opponent much of a chance.

I suppose that a battle system could be created by emulating tabletop RPG systems, with "character points" or somesuch given at registration, distributed amongst key stats and skills, and then one fights from there. (Of course, that means that everyone would have to start from scratch again in terms of "stuff," and I'll have to start saving for my elf ears again. rolleyes )

It's really tough to conduct a battle on a forum system, as there's probably a lot of room for cheese/powergaming. My best recommendation would be to create a type of stat system, and then allow combatants to log in to an "arena" chat room type place, where each turn, one could select an ability to use, and the results would be shown to the people in the arena. I suppose graphical stuff is a bit too far ahead of the game at this time, but it seems possible.

*heave* Anyway, that's my two cents.

Ta. ^_~
have you ever heard of an online game called kaio? it was a stat based dbz rpg fighting system based on forums and instiant messengers.. it was very very technical.. and rather boreing mostly (thats my opinion at least).
While i like the idea of stats, it does restrict the fun of roleplay ever so slightly, and i guarentee every fight system we come up with will have holes the size of giant man eating pokadot rats,
its like computer based rpg's and pen & paper rpg, in the computer based ones usally you can't fireball the bad guy half way through his evil speech, or hop the fence rather than doing a bunch of item searching for the key. if you impose to many restrictions players will get annoyed and if you dont have enougth rules youll lose control.. its a really really hard mix to get right, but hopefully it can be done biggrin
actually the problem with statistics is the same as the problem i thought about the ablitities: there is no one keeping monitor of them. someone could just give himself a hell lot of plus to his abilities and do battles. but if someone is keeping monitor of them i guess it would be a lot better.

there are limitaions on the number of abilities and i already said that to measure the ability type you gt the average of the atack value and defence value.

i guess the only problem i can see so far is that it still has not been tested.

also clarification: this is a turn based system. the defender does an action depending on the attacker's action.

and yeah i agree that it is boring. it is forum based and stuff... but when the admin releases a good battle system i guess it can be scrapped.

i was only thinking of a temporary way to battle before a battle system has been incorporated by the admin.

e2J
so admin will be makeing a battle system?
i think they are. at beta they will.

e2J
when is beta supposed to happen? and i still wonder what they will be adding with this next update
