Welcome to Gaia! ::

There are NO SALES for the moment. NONE. There probably will not be for quite some time, as we have yet to finish things up. So please do not ask about flatsales/auctions/what have you. Any bribery will only get you death glares. >_>

Awwr, Minerva says hi to you! :3

User Image

You may post, but there won't be much here for awhile, so just ... ignore the thread, if you want. XD

The stuff that *will* be happening will be owners-only for a bit, for people who own katirun/katimin dragons, ninaus, or ikkakujuus. :3

There will be shiny new lineart. All katirun/katimin dragons will be redone in this new lineart ... however, for ninaus and ikkakujuus, it has to be requested, 'cause I'm not recoloring THAT many critters. ;D

Staff

winterfalcon
.....Lineartist. Colorist. Person of randomness. Big gryphon with glowy red eyes. Do Not Feed.

kheleksul
.....All around goddess of graphics and coloring. FEAR the overly-beautiful art. Also resident rooster on Wednesdays.

All thread graphics are (c) winterfalcon or kheleksul.

We are not looking for staff at this time.

Rules

1. Ye shall not get too close to Kitsumi. He bites.
2. Ye shall not steal the art. This is a big no-no.
3. Ye shall not piss anybody else off. Play nice.
4. Ye shall not be pissed off. If you have a problem, bring it up nicely and considerately, and you shall be nicely and considerately responded to.
5. Ye shall not ask for pets.
6. Ye shall not PM either winterfalcon or kheleksul about anything to do with Kingdom of Shan. PM, instead, 'Kingdom of Shan' for anything relating to ninaus, katirun dragons, or ikkakujuus. Winter is lazy and doesn't read her PMs. Kheleksul might be nicer and respond to you, but still, don't do it.
7. Ye shall not ask for a refund. If you dont want your pet anymore, you may give it away to somebody, or give it back to the shop, and we'll find a home for him/her. You may not resell your pet (offspring from breedings are different).
8. Ye shall never get your pet taken away from you. You don't even have to come back to the thread EVER again, it shall still remain yours.
9. Ye shall not be blacklisted. Winter does not like blacklists. No. She will not use them. So behave.

Frequently Asked Questions

OMG, CAN I HAVE ONE?
... no. Go away.

What the heck are these creatures?
Katirun/Katimin Dragons, Ninaus, and Ikkakujuus, and they all came from Winter's rather overactive imagination.

Er ... do they live on Gaia?
Not ... originally. Most of them are still in the Kingdom of Shan. :3 Please see the map and kingdom's history for more information!

Are these RP mandatory?
Nope.

You mean, like, I can buy one and never show up in the thread AGAIN?
Yup.

But ... can we RP them?
Yup! You certainly may do so. Winter is nicer, in general, to people that RP. XD You can RP them right in the thread. :3

Do you do pet/art trades?
For Katirun/Katimin dragons, no (except Kheleksul still has one trade left). :3 However, for ninaus and ikkakujuus, maybe. X3 Check the 'trades' section for availability.

Question?
Answer.

Does this dress make me look fat?
What the-?! We're not here to answer that kind of question!, and well, I'd say you're asking the wrong woman. (Women?) *peers a little closer at* I wouldn't call it "fat"... maybe "portly" or "rotund"...

Katirun/Katimin Dragons - Information

When the Niarah, or elves, first set foot into the wilds of Shan, they ended up eradicating most of the katirun and katimin dragons, pushing them back to the northern borders of the lands, into the more mountainous territory. They are now extraordinarily rare to find south of the mountains; however, there are rumors of a small group of them living in the hilly region just north of Prin'gali castle.

Katirun dragons are about the size of a ninau when just hatched, and can fly a few weeks after birth, although they may not carry any great weight until almost into adolescence. They are, furthermore, genderless at this point; they are able to choose their gender when they reach their maturity, sometime during adolescence. They have long life spans.

User Image

Contrary to popular belief, they are not completely intelligent, sentient beings -- but nor are they completely stupid. They have a very rudimentary level of intelligence that hovers just above a normal animal's -- however, it would be pointless to debate with them the mysteries of the universe. They also only communicate by mental images passed from one to another, and cannot speak to humans or amongst themselves. Occasionally, one has been known to bond with a human (normally Shani, but other races, too, have been bonded with), and they are able to communicate with that human, which they consider 'theirs.' They do not generally descend to the level of communicating with 'other' humans, which, for some reason, they seem to think of as 'lesser' beings.

They cannot breathe fire, but when their body temperature rises, smoke can roll out of their noses and mouths to bring down their inner temperature.

Katirun dragons can live for several centuries, but this is rare -- the elements, competition for food, and mating battles often deprive an older dragon of health quite rapidly.

A male dragon may mate with as many females as he can find; females, however, only generally mate with one male. After a period of ninety days, they bear one to five eggs, which may have katirun dragons, katimin dragons, or a gooey substance in them. The female incubates the eggs for a period of time, before flying off and leaving the eggs there. She will not return.

The eggs hatch within thirty days. Often, the strongest katirun dragon will kill it's siblings -- normally, this is the first one to hatch. Sometimes more, however, may survive. Any eggs filled with goo are immediately devored; it's good nutrition. The katirun hatchlings will then fly off to hunt on their own. They will rejoin their parents as a community group, with numerous sires, females, and immature dragons.

Katimin dragons differ greatly from katirun dragons. Katimins are, essentially, the 'cullings' from each hatch. They do not grow beyond childhood, and are sterile. About the size of a deer, they also do not have the ability to fly, although some have rudimentary wings. In the wilds, katimin do not live long, for they are either killed and devoured by their siblings, or they perish from the elements or other predators. When raised in captivity, however, they have shown themselves to be much more loving and gentle than their monstrous counterparts.

Katirun Types

Tsuri -- Probably the most 'common' type of katirun dragon found. They are plain, rather average-sized, and not too bizarre-looking. But they're very loyal and handy in a pinch, despite their appearance compared to other dragons.

Kadore -- The largest of the katirun dragons, they are about the size of a large draft horse at hatching. They are also the most tempermental, prone to tantrums and sulking; they're probably the most destructive and dangerous of the types.

Siora -- These katiruns are rather normal-sized, but they're much more refined and regal than the bulky Kadores. They have two pairs of wings, and three horns (right in a row, the largest in the middle) sprouting from their head. Their personalities are generally more quiet than the other types, and they're slightly more rare; often shying away, in the wild, from any human settlement.

Yahul -- These katirun dragons are often found as the leaders of most of the dragon bands that roam Shan; they may not be the largest, but they're often the cleverest and most agile. They're slightly larger than the Tsuri, and are a bit more streamlined and graceful.

Hiisha -- This type is a loner; it's not often found with bands. In the wild, it has been noted that it will often wait until bands leave a watering hole before approaching. Looks vary, but most are able to take care of themselves fairly well. They have fur around their fetlocks and are often generally more shaggy than the rest.

Wanari -- These katirun dragons are probably the smallest of the types, but are extremely social. They are the swifest in flight, and sport a set of venemous fangs.

Iadh -- Probably the most rare of the types discovered thus far, the Iadh is born blind at birth. It's quite unsure of how they get through life; but it's rumored that they may be the only kind of katirun dragon that can actually utilize their stores of magic (as all dragons have magic in order to fly, but this seems to come instinctively).

Katimin Types

Narana -- One of the katimins, these cullings are, as usual, about the size of a deer. They have a set of tiny feathery wings, useless for flight, and a singular horn.

Fitar -- Nothing is known about this katimin type at this time.

Shinui -- Nothing is known about this katimin type at this time.

Ninau Information

Ninaus were named for their use as a 'beast of burden' to the Qi'ani and later the Shani people. They are equine-like beings, but smarter than the horses that was brought over by the Niarah. Although they cannot talk to humans directly, they have as much intelligence as any other sentient being, and are usually crafty enough to make their meaning well-known to their companions. They are much less 'owned' than they have an agreement with their human; in return for good food and shelter, they often do a portion of work. In the past, there have been rumors of ninaus being taken as slaves, particularly by the Niarah.

User Image

(A ninau, stopping from work to pose.)

Ninaus can pair off for love, or merely to reproduce ... either is acceptable in their society. All types of ninau can have one to three offspring, except for the hybrid, which is sterile.

All types can live to be around one hundred years old, although it's thought that dwarf ninaus may live slightly longer.

Ninaus live in bands of two to fifty individuals, although there are rumors of bands of a hundred or more in the territories across the mountains, which have been unexplored by the Shani. They are ruled over by single lead mare, who often has several strong members, both male and female, to advise her in a council. Ninau bands are often warring among one another, and very often there will be a ranking of warriors in a band. Other members can include storytellers and scouts, among others.

Ninaus can digest hay and normal grasses, but their favorite food is generally the rough par'tah grasses that grow in the north. They are extraordinarily hardy creatures, able to go amazing distances on little food and water. It's said that their riders will die of exhaustion long before a ninau will.

Ninau graveyards litter Shan, the largest near the eastern side of the kingdom. They are said to be blessed -- and cursed -- by the ninau goddess. Ninau will travel extraordinary distances to make sure that the bones of their loved ones are settled in a graveyard.

Ninau Types

Common Ninau: The common ninau has very horse-like colors, but their ancestors -- most closely related to the shikirai ninau -- were a myriad of different colors. The Qi'ani, a nomadic race that used to inhabit all of what would come to be known as Shan, only picked out the natural colors to tame, believing the ones with odd colors were quite ridiculous, and could not blend in as easily on hunts. Thus, the odd colors were eventually bred out of the ninau race, and resulted not only in a more commonly-colored equine, but also in an equine that was shorter and slightly less stocky in stature, with smaller horns.

Shikirai Ninau: The shikirai ninau, as mentioned, is normally a 'wild' ninau, but as the Shani move further north, more and more reports of shikirai ninau being caught and tamed occur. They are about a foot or two (sometimes even three) higher than their smaller cousins, and can be naturally-colored, or oddly-colored. They are generally stockier, and have much longer horns. Often, they refuse to mingle with their smaller counterparts, believing themselves to be much more superior, as they can do basic magic, and the common ninau cannot do magic of any sort.

Dwarf Ninau: Another type of ninau is the dwarf ninau. Cute and minute, they are extremely small -- about the size of a medium-sized dog. They also have wings, and are quite arobic in the air. They have magic, similar to the shikirai ninau, but are often quite fiesty. The Qi'ani consider them mischievous little things, but good luck tokens.

Hybrid Ninau: Common and shikirai ninau are expressely forbidden to interbreed. If they do happen to, they produce the dreaded hybrid ninau -- in size inbetween the two but born with wings, and a frightening amount of magic. They also always have a mental disorder from the overload of magic; most are quite insane. Extraordinarily dangerous, they are shunned by all other ninau.

Ninau Evolutions

Elder Ninau: The Elder Council of Ninau are a very respected group of ninau consisting of evolved common, shikirai, and dwarf ninau. They have odd armor and jewels that are, in fact, grown into their skin -- once an Elder is an Elder, there's no going back. The Elder Council does not often meet; instead, individual Elders prowl the land at times. They often settle disputes with other races. They have general base magic, but their real magic is truth magic -- they are able to pick apart truth from lies. Often treated with courtesy wherever they go, they are nevertheless very rare, and the whole council has to agree on a new member before that member is accepted. They do not generally involve themselves in wars, however -- on the whole, they are a passive, neutral group.

Spirit Ninau: When a ninau dies or is killed, and it's bones are not taken to a ninau graveyard, a spirit ninau is born: the spirit of the ninau without the substance. If this happens as a foal, the spirit will remain a foal. Spirit ninaus are often unhappy and less attuned to this world than a live ninau would be ... it's easiest to see them at dusk and dawn. At other times, they're very whispy and insubstantial. These ghost ninaus are often shunned by live ninaus, who consider them a bad omen. They wander forever, but can be freed to pass to the afterlife if their bones are returned to a graveyard.
