Tymiko, who had fallen asleep in the cave with the little egg in her lap, woke to a small squeaking sound. Well, it was really more of a bleating like a goatling and the soft growls of a lion cub mixed together. It was unlike anything she had ever heard of.
She had stayed in the cave, worrying about her egg instead of going home like some of the others because she was really worried that she would come back to find it....well, she didn't dare think of that. The little feathery and leather wings had stopped moving some time back and she was almost sure she had failed it.
But as she sat there with the little bundle in her lap, blind and defencless, except for a tiny, snow white snake with grey stripes for his tail. The thing that set him apart from the other...kids, cubs, whatever they were called...was his tiny golden hooves and horns. Glancing at the other adorable hatchlings, she noticed that some had grey, some tan, some black, and one even had green. But none were the bright golden color that her's was. She smiled at him.
"Shh...it's okay, you're safe now..." She tried to sooth the little one, using a quiet, comforting voice. "I suppose I should tell you your name," she told him after he hald calmed down a little. "You are Hashi. Sweet little Hashi. But let's just see how long that lasts." She smiled, and Hashi squirmed a little, as if in response.
