A/N I had alot of time to write with all the database errors... I came up with this.
It was late in the afternoon, it had been a pleasant day. The salty spray from the ocean in the air was invigorating. Gino walked down the street, greatfull to be away from the makeshift house his father had built by the ruins of their mansion. It wasn't much, and he actually had been the one to do all the work. Johnny K. Gambino was all thumbs when it came to manual labour, being the sort not only accidentally smash his fingers and toes with the hammer but those of anyone who got too close to try and help as well. But still the old man tried, much to Gino's confusion.
Gino still couldn't remember much of his past, but the man who claimed he was his father was just so heartfelt about it... Gino knew he couldn't simply leave the poor guy, he already saw what he had tried to do once already. "If he hadn't thought I was his son... He really would have jumped. Maybe, it's better to let him keep thinking that, even if I don't remember him..." Gino looked concerned, but then tried to dismiss those thoughts from his head. Today he had a job to do!
He rapped gently on the wooden door, a voice inside called out "come in! It's open!" Gino opened the door and stepped inside as he'd been instructed.
A shriek and the sounds of running greeted him. He smiled and shook his head, removing his shoes and coat. "Hey, it's me!" He hollered, stepping inside.
"Okay!" The female voice hollered back. There was another shriek and the sound of running again.
"Get back here!" The female yelled.
"No!" A child shrieked back.
Gino stood awkwardly in the front hall. Maybe he should have said no?
Finally they came down the stairs, Ruby was dressed in fine attire and her best hat, which Peyo was doing his best to ruin as he kicked and screamed while she carried him. "Whew..." Ruby said, setting down Peyo who now sat on the ground, huffing angrily. "Thanks alot Gino, I really appreciate this. I haven't had a night out alone for... Too long." She said with a laugh, trying to tuck a few stray hairs into place.
"No problem." Gino said, nodding.
"Okay, well, I've closed the store for the night and we're not opening till late tomorrow so that's that taken care of. There's some leftover pasta and meatloaf in the fridge if you get hungry, Peyo already ate. Bed time's nine o'clock, sharp." Ruby turned her attention to her son. "Bye honey, mommy's going out now, I'll be back in the morning." She said, leaning down to hug him.
Peyo took that opportunity to latch onto her neck in a deathgrip and start crying again. "Noo! No mommy don't go! No!"
"Honey it's only for tonight- mommy needs some adult time!" Ruby pryed the child off of her with some difficulty, handing him to Gino.
Gino held Peyo as he kicked and screamed, not wanting to let his mother go.
"Bye bye, I love you!" Ruby said before making good her escape.
After Ruby was gone Gino let Peyo go. Peyo sulked on the floor, glowering at Gino.
"Hey kiddo, it's just you and me. Boys night in, right?" He said with a smile, trying to cheer the kid up.
"I want my mommy." Peyo said miserably.
Gino sighed, there was nothing he could do. He wandered into the living room and flicked on the tv. It was the news, "damn," he thought, "that Cindy sure is cute." Gino watched the news without paying attention to the stories.
Peyo eventually came into the living room, sitting on the couch next to Gino. He had a book in his lap and was trying to read it.
"Hey, what're you reading?" Gino asked with a smile.
"A book." Peyo said with the innocent logic of a child.
"What's it on?"
"Duckies," Peyo said, warming up a little to Gino.
"Oh, want to tell me about duckies?" Gino asked, not knowing what he was in for.
"Duckies go quack!" Peyo said happily.
Forty five minutes later...
"Quack! Quack quack quack! I love duckies! They go quack!" Peyo was still going.
Gino pulled out some of his hair, trying to keep his temper in check. It stopped being 'cute' five minutes after Peyo had started. Wasn't there anything else Peyo would talk about!? "Do you like anything else? What about, uh, fishing? Do you like to fish?"
"Yeah!"
Gino brightened.
"Cause sometimes I'll see duckies!" Peyo continued. Gino's hope was crushed.
"Please," he said with a groan, "could you just, maybe be quiet for a little? Gino's got a headache..." He pleaded to no avail.
"Quack quack quacky quack quack!" Peyo continued, getting louder as he walked around imitating a duck.
It would be a long night.
"Look at me I'm a duck!" Peyo yelled, climbing up on the back of the couch and jumped off it, flapping his arms like they were wings.
...A very long night.
