What is the story behind Amazons?
EDIT: This is subject for change. It will stay the way it is as of right now...blank (this is just the interest topic, after all!)

What is Taratoa?
Taratoa, if you need a blunt answer, is a tropical island that is and has been for centuries, the home of the Amazons. It is rather large in size, and has a few surrounding cays. Taratoa is surrounded by an underwater belt of sharp rocks, and it is difficult to land a boat or ship anywhere near it without sinking it, so it is safe from outside threats.

So where on Taratoa do we RP?
When in your diaries, you can visit anywhere on Taratoa. However, roleplaying in the HQ is...well...roleplaying in the HQ...and nowhere else. The HQ is located at the edge of the Amazon city.

What sort of culture does Taratoa have, in "earth" terms?
The Amazon island has mostly a polynesian base, however there are some other cultures in there too. A bit of an asian influence shows up in traditonal amazon architecture, for instance.

Are there really gods and goddesses on Taratoa?
Indeed. They do not often appear - when they do, it is an event. They mighth disguise themselves as normal people, but they also might show up as themselves. Often, the gods are animalesque, but there are a few human gods in there as well.

If Taratoa is an all-female island, does it have male gods?
Yes, but they are not male humans. For instance, one might be a male lizardlike god and such. Clearly during the time of the Amazon's evolution without man, Taratoa had male animals, just not male humans, so they had gods based off of male animals.

Does Taratoa have pirates?
Formerly it did, but now the Amazons are much more peaceful. (More to be added later?)

Can I have one for free/a low price?
No. I don't care how badly you want one or how many "sob stories" you post, I'm not giving these away for free. Also, if you're a newbie, whether you realize it or not, you probably don't want one. They are RP and diary-intensive, so you might be overwhelmed by the requirements for keeping up an Amazon diary. (Though if you're familiar with diaries, it'll be no sweat!)

I'm no newbie! How do I adopt/buy one?
These are mostly a custom-order pet. The seventh post has a form on it that tells you how to order an Amazon. Sometimes, we will hold auctions and contests, too. But I'm a huge fan of create-it-yourself pets, so I usually would rather you create the concept yourself, maybe with a tiny bit of assistance. Sometimes, however, customs will be closed.

Are there naming restrictions?
Yes, actually. It has to be named after an island - an exotic island. (Sorry, I don't want to name one "Easter" or "Ireland" or something, even though those are all island names, and names of very cool islands at that.) You may slightly edit the name so that it's singular if the island's name sound plural (e.g. "Maldives" to "Maldive" or maybe "Maldiva." wink Worldatlas.com has a large list of them, located here if you need to find a name! (Note that I am not responsible for any "shoot the monkey" or "warp Bill Gates' face" ads you might find on there.)

Are there any exotic islands we can't name the kids after?
Yes. I'd prefer if you didn't name your kid "Fugloy" or "Herm" or "Lesbos", even if those are all actual islands. Use some common sense, please. Yer poor kid's gonna have to live with the name you give it. Also, please try to avoid islands with the words "land" or "isle" stuck somewhere in them. Usually I do not accept names with said things in them. Try to stick to names that have no spaces, as they work better with the certs, by far.

Can I have more than one?
As of current, no. Since these pets take me such a long time to create, and each deserves a very individualized plotline, I think that it's only fair if I limit it to one Amazon per person. As of current, I do not have any twins planned. (Unless something like "Trinidad and Tobago" came along one day...)

Can they breed?
In former times, Amazons went on "baby raids" and literally took female babies from villages - but avast! No longer! Two Amazon women are now able to have kids...and it seems as if by magic, too. But you can't just say "Oh yeah... I want my pet to breed with so and so..." There's gotta be a relationship first, duy! We're not really at this stage yet, so we'll worry about it a bit more when we grow closer to those teen and adult years.

Wait...this is a yuri shop?
It is all-female, yes, and so pretty much all relationships occur between girls, true, but this shop does not specialize in "shoujo-ai" or "yuri" as ye call it. It's more of an "adventure/pirate times/explore the island"-themed pet than a romance-themed one. I'm sure that there are plenty of same-gender romance-themed shops out there, so you can try for those if that's what you're looking for.

Why don't you make boy ones?
Because, let's face it. Gaia has virtually no girl/girl shops. So far as I've seen, there is no such thing as an RP-intensive all-female shop. (Maybe we're the first?) It's time we even it out, folks! It's not that I have anything against men, of course! It's just that I thought it would be a nice forum niche to fill, since I'm sure there are those who'd like an all-female humanoid, RP-intensive pet to go along with the all-male ones. There are many heterosexual or male homosexual-themed shops out there, so look at those if yer after the gentlemen.

I think that this pet is morally wrong...can I file a lawsuit?
No. You don't even get to post a complaint, let alone file a lawsuit. This pet does not violate Gaia's TOS at all. So a big fat "no." Really, it's that simple. I will allow you to keep your anti-gay opinion at my shop...just as long as you keep it to yourself. I'm sure you could find nicer things to say than "OMG!!!11 dat iz rong i shall K22l u IRL!!!11" Try commenting on the art, or talking casually (OOC) to others. We don't bite...usually.

Do I get to pick the personality?
If you order a custom, I don't see why you wouldn't get to. But please, nobody likes a "Mary Sue." The gods of this island kill Mary Sues, I'm sure. Be sure to add some negative traits to their personality as well (albeit only 3 main traits will appear on the cert...so try for 2 positive and 1 neutral-to-negative one.)

Will my Amazon ever change personality and such?
Not usually. It's very rare. However, roleplay takes you where roleplay takes you, so if your Amazon is set down a path of major changes (be they physical or mental), I will try to accomodate that.

Can I take the art/pets/certs/ideas from this shop and use them as my own?
Absolutely not. If you simply "take" a piece of artwork from this shop, that is stealing - cold, flat-out, stealing. I don't care if "everyone does it anyways" or whatever. You are not legally allowed to take my work. Ideas are debatable. While I don't appreciate my ideas being used, I can't stop it if someone else decides to create another island-themed, individualized, all-female, rp-intensive pet and name them something besides "Amazons." (Albeit they will probably be added to the graylist for a little bit, even the blacklist if really bad.) While the actual legend of the wild Amazon women is not my own (it's part of mythology), it was my idea to bring Amazons into the realm of Gaia and modify the concept, and I don't think highly of those wanting to take my idea.

Can I bump this topic?
It's preferred that you don't very often, as I'd prefer conversation, be it RP-based or not. Nonetheless, I might bump the topic from time to time, and you can bump it as well from time-to-time. Just keep bumping minimal, please. We'll all benefit from it!

Do you take pet trades?
As of current, no. This may change in the future, but for now, please don't ask. (Zyrael may update this rule from time to time depending on her pet-trade-status-ness...hooreh!) It's not that I don't like pets...I love them! But often (especially right now) I'm strapped-for-time and can't participate in multiple pet communities. Right now, I've chosen to pour my heart and soul into Amazons, so keep this in mind.

Are these RP-intensive?
Yes. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to sell a totally-individualized, custom-concept, it-takes-an-hour-to-draw-the-first-stage alone pet without expecting a plotline in return. And besides, roleplaying has perks - perks that go beyond just how fast your pet grows to the next stage or what special things they can do. Confused? Read the next question?

Perks? What kind of perks?
Well, let's just say that you could maybe find some special items to equip your Amazon with if you're searching around the shop. It's a big place, remember...part of a temple, in fact! So there are lots of hidden passageways and such to look around in. And! Get this! (Now here's a new concept I've never seen done in a shop.) You could, from time to time, maybe even find items to equip yourself (yes, your gaian avatar) with. If you find a kitsune mask, for instance, while roleplaying (note that the Amazon HQ account has to post the event of finding an item, be it for your Amazon or avatar, and not you...after all, then people would just get free stuff all of the time) you will actually recieve a trade from the Amazon HQ account that gives you a kitsune mask if you'd like to take it. It's rare, but it can happen. (This is why we need those donations, people!)

Do these things require a diary, too?
Yep. They do. The Amazon HQ account will always be the first one to post in a diary - posting the image, along with some basic information such as owner, d.o.b., and some other things not on the cert. Diaries are to be written formally, please, although we're not gonna get on yer case if you make a few spelling mistakes, of course! (We just don't want chatspeak and common mistakes in grammar/punctuation/capitalization and such.) Diaries are expected to be written from your perspective, at least until your Amazon is in the kid stage (then you can alternate between your perspective and your kid's) and are expected to be updated every 3 weeks minimum, though more often is preferred. Of course I understand if you need to take a break for whatever reason, so just PM the Amazon HQ account if you need one!

Do you take pets away?
Yes, but not without warning, of course. If you are excessively inactive (we're talking like ...a month without posting in the diary and not posting at all, informally or formally, in the shop thread) without telling me why, I do take pets away, yes. You will not get a refund. Also, on a kinder note, if you can no longer take care of your Amazon, then you may give her back to me, but again, no refund (at least not usually, sorry.)


What happens to pets that are seized/given up?
Usually, they are put up for auction in an RP auction, or put into a contest, and the best writer/highest bidder gets them. Sometimes, I may hand-pick a new guardian, too.

How do we roleplay in the shop thread?
Roleplaying in the shop thread does not have to be as formal as diaries, but you should still try your best to use proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. This means no chatspeak! I loath chatspeak and won't permit it, unless, of course, you're parodying it for some reason or another. Also, remember to use the double-parentheses, or ((Hi)), when out of character. For example:

About totems...how do I RP a block of wood for Pete's sake?!
Keep it clean, maybe buy some things to put on it, and chase away seagulls. You can try lugging it around (it's pretty heavy, about three feet tall of solid wood.) The totem stage is usually relatively short. When the animal guide arrives, you can try talking or interacting with it, but don't expect it to talk back. (Unless it's a parrot or myna bird, but even then, don't expect quality conversation.)

Are there some things that are absolutely not allowed?
As always, yes. Godmoding (taking control of someone else's character), being a glory hog, excessive cursing, or going above the PG-13 rating limit (going above the limit violates Gaia's TOS even, not just these rules) are all strictly forbidden.

Can I post in a diary if I want?
Not unless you're an Amazon owner, there to drop off a gift, or me. Asking to buy someone's Amazon, advertising (unless you're the diary owner), asking to affiliate with someone's diary (not the shop, but the diary itself) are all not allowed in diaries.

I have further questions. Who do I PM?
The Amazon HQ account. Under no circumstance should you need to PM user Zyraeleth, unless it is for a non-Amazon-related matter. I don't want a million and one PMs filling up my personal gaian inbox regarding custom forms or further questions. Keep Amazon talk to the Amazon thread, please. You can also ask questions here, as long as we're not RP-ing, or as long as you are using ((OOC)) if we are RP-ing.

How do I link back to Amazons?
The best way to link back is simply to tell me you're interested! Any time you want, feel free to post a banner (and the code for this banner) that links to your shop! If we're roleplaying, it's nice and courteous to use the double-parentheses so that we know you're out of character, but it's not a requirement, and nobody should get mad at you if you don't use the "(("'s by accident.

Do you have any guidelines for shops?
Well, they must be shops that belong to you or that you are the staff/coowner of. Please, don't post someone else's shop. If they'd like to affiliate, they can do that on their own. Don't bother. Also, if I find out that your shop contains stolen art, then not only will I remove your link, I will report you to the appropriate moderators. Please don't ask to affiliate if you are a "clone shop" either.

Do you have banner restrictions?
Kind of, but they're pretty loose. I don't care if your banner is "attractive" or not, but I do care if it's too large, waaay too small and kludged-up, or the wrong shape. Banners are generally horizontal in shape, so please don't post vertical ones. And again, please don't post links for shops other than ones you own/coown/are a staff member of.

What do you expect from an affiliate?
Not much, really. I'm not going to require you to stop by and post, nor am I going to give you a free pet. Affiliates do not get extra perks, even if they do own an Amazon. However, you get the benefit of spreading the word about your shop, and, in return, you must link me back so that I can spread the word about mine. Simple as that.

Do you allow direct linking?
Yes, but please don't be abusive. Just because I allow direct linking of certs and linking banners does not mean that I allow direct linking of anything else. It's still bandwidth theft, even if I do have a lot of bandwidth as of now. So please, direct-link only certs and banners. If you have questions about this, ask the Amazon HQ account.

Can I take the banner art/concept?
No. Seriously. This should be obvious. If you think that my banners are cool and want to be "cool like me", then invent your own. Nobody likes a copycat, even when it comes to the little things, like banners and certs. Believe me, people can tell when you copy, so don't! This goes for everything and everyone and every shop there is!

How do I link back to here?
Simply by choosing one of the banners, selecting the code, and then proceeding to put it into a post in your shop (a post marked for affiliates, of course, you know the drill.) You may also provide a text link, but a banner is by far the preferred method.
