This artifact has been given to Dr. Bailey Aka Arrikanez in hopes he takes good care of it. The science field can only hope that it grows much like the others. Please don't post unless you have permission.

The sun was not helping. NO, the sun was not helping at all. Bright, glaring sun that made the sweat stand out on the back of everyone's necks, slowing the workpace to a near standstill. Not that it really mattered, mind. These were some of the greatest archeological finds ever made. Whole items from the people who had lived here! Not just bits and pieces! It was a near-miracle that some of these artifacts had been preserved so very well. Especially in this scorching weather. Rain yesterday had packed the soil over everything that had been uncovered the day before that - requiring everyone in the camp to pitch in and free the buried treasures. It felt rather like the aftermath of easter, where the parents had to find the eggs that were too well hidden. Only difference was, that these parents didn't know where the eggs were themselves. People working together to gather information on those that had come before. And working for the thrill.

For Bailey Stanton, the thrill was in the search. He loved to dig around in the dirt with his hands, or get right down on his hands and knees to use one of the brushes and wipe away the years of grime and dust and dirt. It was satisfying, and very fufilling. So far, though, his digging had produced absolutely nothing, and he was beginning to have doubts that anything still remained close to the surface after the rain pelting it last night, and the mud accumulating. It was about then that he struck something unyielding to his trowel. So apparently he'd found something afterall. He started to meticulously clear away the dirt... and came up with a hunk of dried mud. He was about to chuck it over his shoulder when he noticed a shine to it - a bit of tarnished copper. So maybe there was something in this hunk afterall? He stood with the hunk of mud in his hand, and took it, the trowel, and himself to his tent, pulling up the rickety metal chair to the equally as rickety card-table where he'd laid out all his supplies. First to do away with the big chunks of mud.

He first used a chisel to chip away bits and pieces of mud. It was tedious work. It took him about three hours to finally get to where the artifact was looking like... something. He didn't know what. Now came the "water-cleaning". It was a method he was particularly fond of. He used a dentist's water-pressure cleaner to wash away all of the little pieces of dirt on the inside. Now he was starting to recognize just what it was. It was an odd artifact.. heck, it was odd -for- an artifact. It appeared to be a modified early stethoscope.

User Image

Diurnal design, single chestpiece, single earpiece, a black tube stretched between both. He took off one end carefully, and inspected the inside of the tube. Caked with mud, as the rest of the artifact had been. It was another three long hours of pressure-washing before he finally was able to call the entire artifact... stethoscope... clean. Once it was completely clean and disinfected, he figured he might as well see if his assumption was right. He reached up to gently unbutton the shirt he had on, and screwed both pieces of the stethoscope back in. The first time he tried it, he had the order of earpiece and chestpiece wrong, putting the chestpiece to his ear instead of vice-versa. Then, he figured it out, and was greeted with the sound of his heart. So it was what he thought it was. He wondered what an ancient civilization such as this had use for with a stethoscope. Nonetheless, it was a find, and he'd keep it. The college wouldn't want to know about it anyway. They were worried about pottery and jewels and statues. Not things that everyday people used day-in, day-out. So yes. He would keep this.

[Age: Twenty-four

[Eyes: Baby-blue

[Hair: Mousy Brown

[Skin: Pale, but sort of tanned

[Height: 6' 9"

[Weight: 160 lbs

[Personality: Bailey tends to be a little shy, but once someone gets to know him, they'll find that he's really a very sweet guy. Due to his condition, he tends to steer away from the subject of pain and the like, but he's quite smart [which is why he's ON this expedition], and takes his work very seriously. It's a labor of intellect, as well as a labor of love. His goal, at the moment, is to try and piece together the pieces of the puzzle, to find out what this civilization was like, way back when.

I found a strange and interesting Artifact. It seems to be an early model of Rene Laennec's stethoscope. I wonder what it's doing in a site like this?
